Burgold
Sure we shouldn't judge, but most of us do anyway. How would you rank the sins? Where would you put going to the beach and having impure thoughts against... say, stealing gas, taking G-d's name in vain, or a going on a killing spree? Are any sins unforgiveable? Are any sins not really sins at all? Has the world changed so that somethings that used to be considered sinful are no longer sin or once defined a thing can never be qualified or undefined? Anyway, how would you order your top... let's say seven sins? And if you can think that far, what would your bottom three be? Actually, seven may be too many... How about a top three and bottom three? On the hand, maybe seven isn't that hard
PleaseBlitz
7. Wacking it 6. Coveting hot chicks 5. Lying 4. Premarital sex 3. Rooting for the Cowboys 2. Stealing 1. Lying to some hot chick you were coveting so you could have premarital sex with her. Then stealing something on your way out of her apartment the next morning.

Burgold
Wow, killing didn't even make it to your top seven... then number three should be pretty much mandatory across religions.

SkinsD
Being Catholic sins aren't ranked, instead divided into venial and mortal (the latter is very bad). Mortal sins are usually those related to the 10 commandments and it is not a sin unless you decide to break the commandment. For example I was suprised once by a monster while playing Doom 3 and said G-D. That is not a mortal sin. The two most common mortal sins are accepting the eucharist while not in a state of grace (having a mortal sin on you without going to confession) and not going to church on Sunday. To me murder would be the worst, followed by adultery, bearing false witness, stealing, coveting (women, objects), honoring mother and father, accepting the eucharist while not being in a state of grace, and not going to church on Sunday. While still mortal sins I would say drunkeness, stealing (only assuming you are doing it out of desperation to feed yourself or something), and taking the Lord's name in vain (only because most people do it without thinking about it) would be lesser sins. Jesus refers to only one unforgivable sin, Luke 12:10, "And everyone that says a word against the Son of Man, that will be forgiven; But he that blasphemes against The Holy Spirit will not be forgiven." I am Catholic but I don't obsess over other people's sins as some do. I try my best to remain in a state of grace, if I screw up I go to confession. If someone who is otherwise a good person but doesn't live up to all the standards dies is not going to hell imo.

Zguy28
I'll bite. I guess that depends if the person believes in sin. Are you referring to a Judeo-Christian framework? Blaspheme of the Holy Spirit - The only unpardonable sin EDIT: SkinsD beat me to it.

Blaspheme of the Holy Spirit - The only unpardonable sin Don't like to restrict the concept that much. However, you define sin personally should work for this thread. Side thought: Does the concept of sin exist in Taoism, Bhuddism or in many of the Eastern Religions?

Whether tis more ignoble to be a Philly fan or a Cowboy's fan. Certainly, according to doctrine the Cowboys players are the greatest sinners amongst players, yet the Eagles' fans are greatest sinners in fandom. And it's tough to be more Hooliganish than the Irish.

Jumbo
I was thinking somewhat along such lines of this in the “gay sin” thread. Consider the ten laws God saw fit to make sure Moses took to his chosen people (according to the Bible). I would think if you’re going to call a guy to a mountain, make a rare divine appearance, carve your word into stone and actually put physical proof of your word in his hands for him to take and show others that these are the ten laws from which to govern your life to find favor with God, that it would cover your most important stuff. But it includes only one comment about sexual conduct and that comment refers to heterosexual infidelity (if we don’t debate the “lust” thingy). Wouldn’t the Top Ten cover the most important? But as an ex-Catholic, and more on-topic (sorry) I'd rank the "seven deadly sins" as: Wrath Greed Pride Envy Lust Gluttony Sloth How dishonesty is not among the seven I have no idea. Given the damage caused by all the various forms of dishonesty, it should be way up there.
