I found this to be an interesting rumor

Wonder if Gibbs/Snyder would bite? Can't do much better than Wolf.

Word is that former Packers general manager Ron Wolf, one of the most respected talent evaluators in the league, is getting ready to return to the game.

Didn't Snyder and Wolf already have these discussions a few years ago before they broke down?

this was definitely reported a few years back. it was either before Norv's last year or before Spurriers first. I don't remember.

Hard to imagine Gibbs would bring someone in who would want the kind of power a guy like Wolf would want.

Don't forget Gibbs is the team President, so he would still be the boss of a GM. That would make for a pretty hard working relationship. I have no problems with the guys brought in since Gibbs has been back. The amount of quality lower tier FA's that have worked out pretty much offsets any bad luck on the second day of the draft.

I really can't see it happening with the way the FO is set up here. Basically, you'd be asking Gibbs and Ceratto to give up some responsibilities, and I don't think either would.

If we had someone else with less experience, I might be for it, but I feel good about the FO the way it is. Part of the problems we've been having has been primarily because of turnover in the FO. Having some consistancy is a good thing, and I don't think Gibbs and crew have done a bad job the past couple of years.

There has been minimal turnover in the front office.

Aside from the Marty year, it's pretty much always been Snyder and Vinny calling the shots. Marty fired Vinny, but that Snyder brought him back right away. Spurrier had no say in the front office decisions.

Wolf has got to be in his late 60s or early 70s. I honestly doubt that he would want to take on the demands of running a football team the way a traditional GM would. Those guys work 16-18 hour days just like coaches. Now, I still think that he'd want to pick his coach as 99.9% of GMs would but when your coach is already a HOFer, there's really no need.

To me, what it would probably come down to is final say in personnel. Does Wolf have to have it? I doubt that Gibbs would give that up but he seems to be pretty flexible. He's allowing his defensive and special teams staff to have input into the players they will coach. So I doubt that he'd have be opposed to a HOF GM giving his input.

I think the move would be to hire him as a personnel consultant of some sort. He's done this on a part time basis for Parcells in the past. If he's looking to really get back into the game on a full-time basis but not as a traditional GM, I think it's a no-brainer.
