The Official Washington Basketball Thread: Wizards, Mystics etc
gbear replied to BRAVEONAWARPATH's topic in The Tailgate
It is odd how in sports there are cases of better by subtraction. I mean I thought we got very little for a former first round pick right after her dropped 30...but I think making sure Deni got playing time was probably the right call. Time will tell, but the short term rewards are promising. -
Captain Wiggles, I take it you are interested in creating a modern New Australia, only within the U.S.? I wonder how many people realize this thought has been actually applied.

What product is marketed pretty much exclusively to stupid people?
gbear replied to Cooked Crack's topic in The Tailgate
Dan, the thing is the fake sugars are bad for you too. They'll impact on appetite amongst other impacts seem to undercut any impact of reducing calories by taking out sugar. It is why there aren't studies singing the praises of diet sodas to lose weight. There are also increasing numbers of studies about the hazards of fake sugars. Just one diet soda a day drastically increases odds on dementia without leading to weight loss when compared with just drinking regular sodas. -

DIET Soda...How many people lose weight by switching to diet soda? Then there are all the studies about increases in dementia occurring in habitual drinkers of diet soda... -
Nah Nah Nah…Nah Nah Nah…Hey Hey Hey…GOODBYE CLOWNSHOES

We did love it when he bought the team. We just wished it would have gone through faster so we didn't lose our good QB in Green. I don't remember whether it was here or Capitol Punishment that I was posting on at the time (it's been a min). Truth told though, many of us wanted Cooke's son to get the team and thought good old Jack screwed everyone over not leaving it to him. -
Guys I need recommendations on the next TV series I should start watching.
gbear replied to stoney26's topic in The Tailgate
In all seriousness, they stayed within the lines doing game of thrones with the possible exception of the last season for which there was no book material. If they stay true to the books, the drama is very different from game of thrones. It is less about frequent betrayals and more about what people did not see coming. In any event, I think it will make a great series if they stay with the books' plot structure. -

What I can't wait to watch is the Three Body Problem coming on Netflix. I loved the book series, and I can't wait to see how the people who brought us Game of Thrones do a Sci Fi epic. -
To say nothing for the spouse left to raise 4 kids alone. Praise the lawmakers who provide help for them...

https://nintendo.fandom.com/wiki/Tanks! You forgot lay mines. In all seriousness though, I don't want our tanks left unfueled for some Russian farmer to claim. This war should have taught everyone the importance of only fielding equipment you can resupply. So if that means giving them more different tanks isn't the best way to help them, then we should be looking at ways we can actually best help.

The Random Thought Thread Vol 2---Read OP For Thread Rules
gbear replied to Jumbo's topic in The Tailgate
She was born as a male but has identified as female for as long she could identify sexes. At age three she wanted to remove the penis to be a girl... Now age 7, and nothing has changed on that front save for now she wants the female pronouns applied to her. -

As the parent of a trans girl, I am constantly amazed by the number of things I never think about with which a trans community has to deal. I can hardly believe how expensive and hard to find underwear can be for trans girls. Also on the list of questions I still have, for those people who identify as neither male nor female and chose "they" as their pronoun, is the verb singular or plural. For example is it "they are great" or "they is great?" Maybe it is just the nerd in me who was indoctrinated on grammar, but I have a harder time with the singular or plural mismatch than the gender dis/agreement. -
Chear the deficit reduction because there seems to be a sweet spot where other countries want your currency enough to allow the fed to provide softer downturns. We have been fortunate to be the world's default currency to save value. Thus we can print money without destroying its perceived value allowing us to spend our way out of recessions. That is a benefit most here take for granted while the rest of the world wishes they could do that to ease their recessions. Note much of the reason the dollar is thought to be stable is because we and the world have said the u.s. economy is so strong, the dollar is a safe bet. To keep our economy humming, we make more dollars and borrow. The fed targets an inflation rate which puts some limits in how much they can just print money. So we borrow the rest, and the world becomes more invested in making sure the dollars they have retain value. There is an old joke. A man borrow 100k from the bank. The bank owns him. However of he borrows 100 billion he owns the bank. When it comes to U.S. debt and the world economy, we want to make sure we set terms...so there is a value to being the side of the equation where we are closer to the billion dollar borrower...except we borrow trillions. 😀

What's 100% a scam, yet still accepted by society?
gbear replied to Spaceman Spiff's topic in The Tailgate
Equal justice for all...The thing is I think most people just agree to pretend this is true. I think the majority know it is not true. "Parents don't have favorite children." yeah, I posit this is likely a lie needing acceptance to make every family (a society unto itself) work. -

Free will. How close are we to being able to predict a person's actions in a given situation based on chemistry in their brains? If all of our decisions can be modeled out, how long till all of humanity can play out in a computer simulation faster than we live it? Maybe the Calvinists got it right... -

That was the call which sprung to mind immediately reading the first post. -
That would be some ballsy game theory in action. Yet, my money would be on it working with the 20 hold outs forced to pick between McCarthy and a Dem for speaker ( with the present votes the Dems would then have a majority unless the Republicans united behind a single person).
-
I just dont want them to put Trump in the speaker position. Couldn't they? That would be my nightmare.

Saw star girl on disney plus. It was surprisingly deep for a teen movie. My daughter liked it and the music. I liked the songs from both women who were on America's got tallent. -
Except we may actually be 30 years away this time. There are still all the issues bring this new energy production up to scale, securing the needed materials and then producing ways of transmitting/transferring the energy. However, these are the seemingly more mundane issues with the sci-fi of creating a net positive energy seemingly in reach.

I am two episodes into The Peripheral, and I am really enjoying it. The plot is well done, and the acting has been quite good, especially for a Sci-fi show that has to be mostly shot with a blue screen. The show seems like the next evolution of tv. sci-fi. Think the Expanse meets the Matrix. -
Ted Cruz' daughter apparently attempted suicide :(
gbear replied to Califan007 The Constipated's topic in The Tailgate
Maybe Ted will realize why mental health should be covered like other medical conditions. Not every thing can be overcome with stoicism. As for her, I feel for nothing but sympathy. Having MS, I know suicide is a very common cause of death. I hope she gets help for the pain she is suffering, and I hope the rest of the world gives her the space and attention she needs to find her way.
