Luchese bosses among 15 cuffed in massive New York mob takedown

The Luchese family’s ruling hierarchy and 16 mob associates were charged Wednesday with murder, drug-dealing, extortion and gambling in a massive federal indictment.

Named in the 30-page racketeering case were Luchese street boss Matthew Madonna, his underboss Steven (Wonder Boy) Crea Sr., and consigliere Joseph DiNapoli.

The indictment also charged various mobsters with the murder of a longtime mob hitman and three attempted killings, including a Crea-ordered hit of a Bonanno family associate who disrespected him.

The venerable crime family, in between shootings, peddled cocaine, heroin, prescription opiates and marijuana, charged the indictment — which covered a 17-year stretch beginning in 2000.

Was kinda hoping for some something romantic like gambling rings, extortion, helping around the neighborhood type stuff, etc.  But nah, these guys on some selling heroin and prescription opiodes mess.  I'm glad they're gone.  Is this what the mob is now in 2017?

Gimme a break on these names.  Sounds like dudes from an old Seagal movie.

Yeah, Mob nicknames have really gone downhill in recent years.  They need new blood among the consiglieres who come up with the nicknames.  Otherwise, pretty soon we'll be hearing about Frankie "Tight Pants" Napoli or Johnny "Orthopedic Shoes" Valenti.

Drugs are basically what killed the Mafia. And the old heads saw the writing on the wall and tried to restrict it entirely (or at least cover-up their involvement). The money was/is too much though. The whole French Connection thing was basically the beginning of the end.

Yes and no. Mob made tons of money from drugs. Problem became losing unions and political connections.

Drugs got into the game and they became more noticed when the next generation of mobsters started living like rap stars.

Flashy behavior always throws up red flags.

Mainly, I think the snitching thing got to them. No way to control that. A murder rap lays open...forever, some of these guys are simply soft and wouldn't take their own rap...so they threw the bus with info that they had from a decade or so earlier.

Pretty sure there is a rat in this situation.
