DM72
Thought the game was over when Pennsylvania was up 10-2 in the 1st and turned away. Came back to the game and it's now 10-10 in the 3rd. As I type this Japan just hit a 3 run homer to go up 13-10. I don't know how many others watch the Little League playoffs and World Series, but am I the only one who thinks that field could be a little bit bigger? Just about any hard hit ball with any lift is gone.
CRobi21
Agreed. Walls could be extended, as well as the base paths and pitchers mound to home plate distances.
Larry
I would assume that the distances are standardized. If they make it bigger, to hold down the scores for the championship teams, would that impact all the millions of non-championship games? Just a theory. Redskin4ever
The bat technology is so much better than it was even 10 years ago, not to mention 15 and 20 years ago. The fences should be back further. The mound and basepaths are fine for now. The pitchers can be dominate in these games. It's just when a kid gets the bat on the ball, the bats are designed to just launch the ball. And the speed of the pitches makes them go even further. Kilmer17
All of these kids play travel ball on fields that are 250-280 with 50 foot mounds and 70 foot bases. They all play little league only in the spring of their 12 year old year because it gives them a chance to play on tv. It's a joke really I'm suprised we haven't seen a serious life threatening injury to a pitcher over the last fee years

Xameil
I used to live in Williamsport where the world series is. It's absolutely amazing the pomp and circumstance that goes on. It is a HUGE deal in Williamsport and alot of people who don't even have children on the teams or children at all go to the games. Kinda cool for the kids. The parade they do for the kids used to go right by my apartment...it's insane..
The Evil Genius
To me it looks like the technology has far outpaced the field dimensions. Plus..did any of you guys know a 6'4" 225lb 12 year old? What the **** are they feeding these kids?

The Evil Genius
Not really. I mean there was a 6'9" kid a few years ago (2006ish I think).  Some of the kids are gigantic 12 and 13 year olds and it's no wonder they are hitting the ball the puny distance needed.  It's become a celebrity all star softball game and they really need to move the fences back about 50 feet and the mound and bases back too. TMK9973
The field seems small only because the kids in the championship games are 13 year olds that have gone thru puberty... 200 feet is standard for all of little league. Â So it wont change. Â what HAS changed is this is the last year you will have 13 year old men in the championship game. Â Starting next year - the age for little league has changed. Â It use to be you had to be 12 (or younger) on April 30th of the current year. So some of these kids could have turned 13 4 months ago, and 4 months for a 13 year old is HUGE. Starting next year -Its you have to be 12 on Dec 31st of the current year. Â so while this year the oldest kid could be 13 years, 4 months... next year the oldest kid will be 12 years 8 months. MintHillSkinsFan
Yeah, I don't understand the field dimensions. They said from day one of the broadcast, the field is 2/3 size of a standard field. You would think with kids this good that you would want the normal size field. Then you could really separate the good from the great.  With that being said though, those 3 weeks in august every year embody pure competition and sports the way they were meant to be played. Every one of those kids truly puts their heart and soul into it and leave it all on the field every game. It's too bad the adults have to ruin it with scandals like the Jackie Robinson team from last year. Those kids played great ball and it their title was stripped over manipulated boundaries. Damn shame. DM72
I love the sportsmanship of these kids. Seriously, they slap highfives to opponents rounding the bases after he had just hit a HR against his team.
abdcskins
I'm tired of Japan beating us. USA needs to step up!  How do you blow such a big lead? This is serious stuff!  Seriously though international teams have dominated the Little League World Series. Â Not an excuse or saying that we should do it too since they are..but just a general comment. Â I'm wondering if the "cheating" is going on everywhere. Japan has larger regions with less teams to pull kids... Â Here is how it works - A district is made up and all the kids play in that district. A large district with many teams will have to split into 2 (Sometimes 3 or 4) leagues in a district. Â All star teams will be made by each league in each district. Â Â So - While in Japan - The best players in a 20 square mile radius will be on the same team, in populated areas of the US (not even talking big cities - but just places like Ashburn, Fairfax, etc.. where lots of kids play) the 2 best players on the same street might not even be on the same team!.
