Fun piece/interview with Austin back in January:

http://nfldraftdiamonds.com/draft-diamonds-prospect-interview-austin-reiter-ol-university-south-florida/

At your position, what separates you from others?

My consistency and versatility in different blocking schemes

When you are breaking down film, what do you look for?

I recognize their base defensive front. From there I try to understand their scheme and what they are trying to do as a defensive. When looking at certain players you have to study them in certain scenarios. You look for tips in their stance and alignment in certain run and pass situations to help gauge where they are trying to go and what they are trying to do.

Who was the toughest player you ever faced?

Aaron Donald and Timmy Jernigan

If you could compare your play to one player in the NFL who would it be and why?

I would like to say that Chris Myers for the Houston Texans has an exceptional ability to zone reach and get to the second level. That is something I strive for as a center and can say that is one of my better attributes.

Nice video you got DC9.

He's not that bad going against Aaron Donald.

Not afraid to go for the tackle on that first interception.

Interesting pick, now we officially have two centers on our Roster.

Welcome to the Redskins Austin!

(Hard to believe we'll be rooting for someone named Austin... Someone should tell Scott to never draft someone called Dallas)

Excited about a 7th round pick......How cool is that!

From Fred's article

""Ask Reiter what he remembers as the most grueling challenge of construction work, and he'll pick up an imaginary Allan Block, a 75-pound piece of stone used to build retaining walls. He would unload a pallet of 15 into a vehicle, drive them to the back of a house, unload them then repeat the process over and over. A project might have 2,400 blocks before a wall is done.""

First thing I thought of......

Donald did bull rush him a couple times, but looks like he was playing at lighter weight. Sounds like a high football IQ guy who is tough as nails.

Camp competition at O line gonna be stout when you add in 2014 draft picks.

He looked really solid through the whole video, I thought. Held his blocks, got to the second level on runs, good footwork, no sacks allowed by his guy.

He's slowly been bulking up every year in college. I wonder if 295 is just a temporary listing and if he'll show up to training camp heavier.

Not sure that he'll have a choice.  If he can't play well enough at 295 and/or he can't carry the weight that'll make him effective, he's not going to make the team.

Remember, Trent Murphy has gained weight so that he can play d-line (probably long term solution to Hatcher), so he can and will as well.

Just watched the highlights DC9 posted and it shows he does have a good sense of balance and busy feet to keep in correct form, really solid technically and knows what's going on mentally. He looks a lot smaller than the guys he's blocking so he had to have good technique, only bit I didn't like was when he tried to block by going off his feet.  He put his head down and dived to the ground causing minimal disruption to the DL he aimed at.  On his feet though love how he keeps his shoulders square and his man upfield in front of him while around him the pocket collapses.  Busy hands and must have a good punch to be that effective at that weight.  Very consistent too.

If he can come in at 310+ I think he'll have a shot this year.  New GM, new OL scheme, new OL coach and at least 2 if not 3 other new guys on the line.  If a C shows well in the 1 on 1s I think we'll try and work with them, same with the rest of the line.  Pick the 5 best individuals and then have Callahan make them greater than the sum of their parts.

He doesn't look to be carrying bad weight right now so no reason to stop putting on the lbs, and with Scott and his general penchant for 'bigger is better', I think every incentive to keep going.  Next year our OL average weight may be north of 330lbs :)

EDIT: Not only did DC9 put it much better (he won't be around if he doesn't) someone has nicked my lighter, and I'm the only one in.........
