AlldaySkins
Longtime lurker, first time poster here. First of all, I just want to say I'm excited that we hired Jay Gruden and I think he will get our offense to the top of the league. I am starting this thread to take notice to the fact that RG3 may finally be getting wiser in his young age. Today was his 1st tweet in a long time and he hasn't really spoken to the media that much anymore. I don't think he should avoid it like "Beast Mode" did, but just learn to choose his words more wisely. I'm all for him doing promos for companies like Subway and even if he decides to have his own clothing line (good for him). I just hope he learns what to say and when to say things. I believe he has learned from these mistakes and will turn into a fine leader for our future Redskins.
SicEm10
I mentioned this in another thread the other day. It's definitely been interesting to see how Robert has stayed out of the limelight for quite some time, at least a lot more than he ever has being a Redskin.I check on him regularly and I too believe he's been humbled greatly from his experiences this season. I don't know too much about Gruden, but I do like what I have seen from him thus far (Hard Knocks, YouTube, the presser, etc.) Hopefully him and Robert will hit it off well. AlldaySkins
Sorry that I missed that post SicEm. I didn't mean to repeat what anyone else has said, but I must've missed that. I know it's dangerous being overly optimistic as a Redskins fan, but I feel good about this hire.
Stadium-Armory
It only makes sense. Last year we were in the playoffs and he was having a ROTY season that ended with a controversial injury, which led to a mini-movie about his recovery and the story continued through the summer. This year, team goes 3-13 and crashes and burns in a fiery mess. End of story nothing to talk about see you in July.
Rskins06
I think it is absolutely the right thing for RGIII to do and happy to see it. I have been somewhat critical about all the stories, rumors , perceptions, etc and RGIII. I do believe he has made some mistakes and needs to learn from them and this is a great start. I absolutely believe we will see a totally different RGIII next year, with all the issues with his trust in coaches, seemed like he wasn't enjoying the game anymore. I look forward to seeing a better RGIII next year.
Tarheel_Skin
Exactly it he were a true "diva" as the pundits have made him out to be he would still be trying to make news.
AlldaySkins
Exactly what I'm saying. There is less noise around this time of the year especially when you are watching the playoffs from home, but RG3 could still talk if he wanted to. I'm trying to just point out that from the halfway point of this past season we haven't heard much from him. A lot of it was the tension with Mike and now that he's gone all should be good. I truly never think RG3 was really a diva and it's just the DC-based liberal media making him out to be one. We all know the media in DC wants them to change their name so they are going to try everything to make us look like a circus. warskins65
I hope Robert learns something from this fiasco, that he still has alot to learn from his NEW Coach, to be humble is to be human, that greatness can only be achieved through teamwork, that hard work is not enough if one puts one's self above the Team, the Teams greatness is only as good as your bond to THAT team. The Redskins have invested alot in RGIII, I think he is worth it. Time will tell. HTTR
NoCalMike
If you want to be objective, he didn't make much noise during the season in the first place. It seemed like for a good while the camera crews were instructed to have an "RG3 at all times" camera set up. That isn't his fault, that is the media making a concerted effort to try and catch him slipping up. It only got worse when the team was losing, and even more annoying once he was benched. Finally in the finale against the Giants, the media seemed to give up on the effort.

There were times though when he should've used his words more carefully. He will learn this through time though. If Snyder and RG3 are so close, then maybe he can pay him 50k to let him avoid the media.
HtownRocks111
I'm leaning more towards its not what RGIII said in the past with "operation patience"...."all in for week 1"... ect.... I think it's more that the public was not stable enough to look past it. Wasn't a big deal the way everyone (including this board) was making it out to be. roanoker
I dont blame him for going somewhat underground. As Gruden will find out in time, the media relishes eating its own...
Sanka
Excited about the hiring of Coach Jay Gruden. Can't wait to get to work with him & the guys! - RG3 on twitter I rather him keep using twitter to put his words out there instead of talking to the media and they trying to twist his words. Just keep quiet throughout the offseason until the season starts. Don't feed the trolls (media) ...they are looking for anything to make you look bad
Boss_Hogg
The blowhards on BSPN, NFL Network and the WaPo will find something. Perhaps Mustang Sally is working on a piece about Robert not being a team player or proactive enough in the coaching search. It'll never end, we just need to stop posting their crap on here. The less clicks the better.

I believe this is again showing that the Medias' outlashes effect him in negative ways. You all seeing this as a good thing. But when he was happy and good with the media his rookie year before the injury ( since that was the mark of all the Critisim on into the off season) he played like a top talent in that position. Now after the Injury, the media bashed him all the way into the off season and into the new season. It did its damage and will continue to do damage. Which is showing, by him not being himself anymore.
NoCalMike
It's funny because during the season the media made it seem like it was all Robert's fault. Now that there is a new coach and the team is looking to turn the page, the media has decided "hey it was never Robert's fault, the team is so horrible that a new coach will never have success there"

stat2883
Personally, I'd chalk a lot of it up Griffin just being naive about the amount "power" that the mainstream NFL media has over the general public and shaping opinions. He's no different than thousands of other kids his age, just has a big spotlight on him. My opinion only.

If that were the case, the locker room would certainly have identified that during the season and we would have heard about a lot more issues. When I think about the fact that Robert is a little more than just a year older than me, it boggles my mind even when I simply try to imagine myself handle all of the pressure that comes with him being in the position he is in. He wanted to be the man for us, he still is the man for us. However, all was well up until adversity came into the picture. What is happening now is that he has simply realized that the media is just waiting for him to slip up and give it something to talk about. By staying quiet, he knows he's winning that battle and it will only benefit us in the long run.
samy316
I think it's good that RGIII is laying low publicly. I chalk last year up to high expectations, nativity & bad luck as far as his relationship with the media. He IMO learned a valuable lesson this year on how the media is NOT his best friend, and also what letting success get to your head can do for your public rep. All he has to do is keep laying low, not go on a commercial shoot binge like he did all last offseason, and work hard in the offseason with the new coaching staff to put last year behind him. I think he's smart enough to to do all of that, and hopefully he won't be "Subway Super Bob", but just a 3rd year QB looking to improve on last year's disappointment. PigskinRedskin
I don't know if anyone saw and don't think it warrants a new topic but fits in here well, saw this that he wrote on his Facebook Page: Robert Griffin III - I usually don't do this because everyone will have an opinion on what you do or don't do. But to answer your question. I wear a sleeve because....well the same reason Pierre Garcon wears a fang mouthpiece-S. Moss wears a hand warmer when it's 70 degrees-Will Montgomery wears elbow pads-Alfred Morris wears shin guards-London Fletcher doesn't wear sleeves in below freezing weather-Adam Carriker does bicep curls and tricep extensions before a game-Chris Baker dances before every game in the locker room-Logan Paulsen does 2 handed spikes when he celebrates touchdowns-Chris Chester does ninja spins to block people-Some guys wear sleeves & some don't-Some guys wear wristbands & some don't-Etc Etc You see WE do these things because they make us comfortable. Not to be different. Been wearing a sleeve and glove for 10 years. You see WE are a team. You think I want it to be national news that I visit a beach? Or shop at Walmart? Or wore red shoes instead if green yesterday? Well I don't. I'm "striving" for greatness just like my fellow teammates do. The "attention" that comes with being a QB in the league is what you are referring to. All the press conferences and talking to the media? Mandated by the league to have a press conference every week during the season and during team activities during the off-season. Oh wait, you must be talking about the Commercials? Right? Oh ok so what was the deal with those in 2012? WE won the division. So in 2013 when WE get knocked down, and finish last it's because of the commercials? If that is your reasoning I have nothing more to say. WE will get back up. That is what matters. I hope I answered your question well enough. And that you keep supporting the team. HTTR!!! https://www.facebook.com/RG3 Seems like he's still got that strong head on his shoulders and is ready to prove people wrong next season... This statement from Robert should really be highlighted in a separate thread. It is his most direct statement to date about all the bull**** that's been written about him. To me, it shows he's a team guy, despite what all the critics say. Edit: I'm not great with Facebook... I don't see the question or comment that he is responding to. Can someone post that too?
