I hear you.

I don't have any expectations of a great or maybe even "good" season record-wise, but that's not what is most important to me this year.  All of us long time fans have witnessed more regime changes and "Year 1s" over the last several decades than we can stomach.  This is the install, observation of talent and eventual correction/addition of said talent year.  It has to be that way.   It's always positive this time of year and the energy is always up.  Same old sound bites from the coaches and players; it's all expected and somewhat rote.

But the difference this time is from whom the sound bites, analysis and FO decisions/changes/additions are coming.  We have actual accomplished, intelligent and classy people in charge now from ownership all the way down.  And I like that there's no promises being made - just dire intention.

I see about a 7 win season, maybe 8 max.  And that's fine.  I'm excited to watch true growth this year, pretty much knowing it is finally going to count towards something larger that won't be ripped up two years from now.  I can watch a true blue-chip franchise QB prospect be coached, nurtured and developed intelligently and with an honest to goodness long term plan that is in his and the teams' best interest for a change.  That's a huge contrast to an overhyped, overdraft prospect that is stepping into a terrible and short-term coaching situation and foundation built on quicksand.

For the first time in his 14.5 years of life, my son is actually excited and looking forward to rooting for this team.  He knows our history and has seen the SBs, etc.  If this team hadn't changed hands of ownership, I'd be left to quietly watch alone on Sundays with nothing but despair.   It felt like what my mother (one of the biggest football and Redskins fans that could have possibly lived) taught and passed down to me was going to stop with me.  And that caused immeasurable heartache.

When I was growing up, this team was family.  Our Sunday dinners were either like a funeral wake or New Year's party depending on what happened in our game.  It was beyond splendid.  Harris and company have given me a chance to get that back again.  And they are and going to continue to represent our organization with class and intelligence and phenomenal effort to win.  Whatever our records are at the end of our seasons, that is all I ever asked.  I can root for that forever, even if it means never seeing another SB.   I'm grateful beyond measure to the people in charge now.

You honor me with your response.

You write with rare eloquence and have a gift for getting to the essential essence of things.

It was a deeply satisfying pleasure reading your post.

Namaste.

All you want is the team to get better as the season goes and give you hope for the future.  If the winning comes a little earlier great but we want a team built for the long run.  I want a team that can contend for a long time and when the downturn happens, it isn’t for a long time.

Look at the teams that have had the most consistent success.

It's not unreasonable to question Ertz playing a lot. He's going to be 34 years old, and he missed a lot of games in 3 of his last 4 seasons.

If you're talking due to health, sure, it's not unreasonable. But if people were questioning how much he was going to play based on skill... that's wild.

And the one tweet above was worded like a bad infomercial, "YOU WON'T LIKE HOW MUCH ERTZ IS GOING TO BE PLAYING! MORE AT THE LINK!"

Oh for sure, that part is extremely annoying.

The Washington Commanders are trying everything to see how the players on their roster can best help them win. There were about a dozen players catching kicks during Wednesday's special teams drills, and offensive linemen were being placed at different spots to find the best five players in the group.

Linebacker Jamin Davis, Washington's first-round pick in 2021, is one of the many players trying something new in practice. His new defensive coaches are trying him out as a stand-up pass-rusher in certain situations, and he loves it.

"I'm having a lot of fun with that so far," Davis told reporters June 5.

Davis' place in Washington's defense has been a quandary the team has struggled to solve since he first joined the team out of Kentucky. He started out as a middle linebacker before moving to the outside, which seemed to be more of a fit for his skill set. He was on pace to have a career year, but a shoulder injury forced him to miss the final four games of the season.

Now, with a new coaching staff and philosophy in place, Davis is making another change -- one that his coaches believe will give him the best chance to succeed.

"And we're trying to really push him specifically on the versatility," said head coach Dan Quinn. "So, you'll see him working some with the defensive line, you'll see him working with [pass rush specialist] Ryan Kerrigan on the side, and we're adding parts to his game that maybe we didn't use and we're certainly trying to explore that."

There should be some confidence that Davis, a First Team All-SEC selection by Pro Football Focus in 2020, at least has the athleticism to be a pass-rusher when the situation calls for it. That was one of the things that drew Washington's attention, despite him only having one season as a full-time starter. He put on a show for scouts at the Wildcats' pro day, running an unofficial 4.41 and 4.37 in the 40-yard dash. He also recorded a 42-inch vertical with an 11-foot broad jump.

Davis is familiar with operating as a pass-rushing linebacker, too. He has blitzed more than any Washington player since he was drafted, according to Pro Football Reference, doing so on 122 plays in three years. PFF also notes that he's been a pass-rusher on 190 of his 2,156 career snaps.

Davis' success on those plays, however, shows room for improvement. He has just seven sacks to go with 27 total pressures since 2021, per PFF and PFR.

The hope is that putting Davis closer to the line of scrimmage will give him more opportunities to boost his positive plays.

"He's a big, strong, fast man that has the ability to bend," said defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. "We wanna make sure we get our best players on the field in whatever capacity we can."

I'm so curious about who TE3 will be.

Bates.  Looks like they want a TE who can block and he's been as you know their best blocker.

#4 should be interesting.  Rogers, Turner?  Maybe Yankoff has the edge though.  So far Ive heard he has had a good camp.  And talk about a swiss arm knife.  Ex-QB.  Can play WR-TE-FB and return kicks.

11. Colson Yankoff

Yankoff was a reserve player on offense for most of his college career. He was a standout on special teams, though, and he'll likely compete as the Commanders' return specialist in training camp.

Yankoff didn't return kicks until last season, but it turns out that he has a knack for the job. He returned 16 kicks in 2023, recording 334 yards and season-long of 30 yards. Yankoff was one of the best return specialists in the Pac-12, as his total yardage ranked fifth in the conference.

I forgot about Yankoff. I was assuming that it'll be Bates as TE3. TE room looks pretty damn good.

It could definitely be a close run thing between Yankoff and the slightly more experienced Master Bates.

I'd be surprised if Bates doesn't make it. He was the #1 overall run blocker league wide as a rookie and not just for TEs.

finally looks like a good TE room.  Some tried to sell (what Rivera seemed to feel) that the TE room was plenty promising last year.  But I know i didn't feel that way.

Cool to hear the SF wanted Sinnott with their 2nd rounder but we beat them to it.  I gather Peters was aware of the SF interest considering a lot of that scouting I presume happened under his watch.

I love where we got him. I had him as a mid 2nd player. I honestly would have taken him at 36 or 40, so getting Sain with him is a huge bonus.

I have to keep reminding myself we didn’t have a normal draft from a value perspective. We drafted 6 players in the first 3 rounds, 4 in the first and second.  In theory we should have dramatically improved our roster.  Add the vets and everyone enthused to play for Quinn…🙂, I fell like brake dancing!  This is unreal!

Just imagine if we had Penix as QB. The jokes practically write themselves.

Not that this proves definitively that this franchise has done a 180, but it’s one more tidbit- apparently chinn turned down more money with this Steelers to play here. Whitt/quinn won him over.

i was high on chinn in the draft but not sure he’ll end up meeting expectations. Regardless, when was the last time we heard that a player came here for any reason other than the $$$?

There is a ton of optimism in here. And I get it. But please look at the workouts with open eyes. Daniels struggled some in the red zone. Which should be expected. He has yet to face a real NFL defense. And he WILL throw picks. Probably a ton of them. This year is about his growth. And the growth of the players around him. I just hope he makes it through half of the games. We will see.

I have always been impressed with Armani Rogers. I like his speed, quickness, and athleticism. Still recall us giving him an end around or two. And he did very well on those plays also.
