Its weird that Australia had a stabbing attack that killed 6 and they act like it’s 9/11.

Recall once seeing part of a speech about weapons and things that had an interesting statistic.

According to the NCIC, the FBI's crime database, for the most recent year (note, this was like 30 years ago):

Out of all the people in the US who got shot, 92% of them survived.

Out of all the people in the US who got stabbed, 85% of them survived.

Biden administration closing 'gun show loophole'

The Biden administration on Thursday announced they are closing what is often known as the "gun show loophole," by tightening up the definition of what it means to be "engaged in the business" of selling firearms.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) has just implemented a change in the federal register language, which was previously more specific to who was selling guns, and the agency did it in accordance with the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which was passed in 2022.

The administration rolled out the proposed rule in September 2023, taking in over 300,000 comments from the public.

Prior to the passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, those "engaged in the business" of firearms dealer were required to register to become a federally licensed firearm dealer, according to the language previously used. The definition that ATF is implementing on Thursday is more specific to better regulate the market in accordance with the new federal law, according to the White House.

The rule now explicitly lists the types of commercial activities that indicate whether a person should become a federally licensed dealer and thus be required to run a background check; prevents people from evading the licensing and background check requirements by claiming that they are just selling a few guns, according to the White House; and prevents people from falsely claiming that guns are part of a personal collection and exempt a seller from running a background check on a buyer.

By being more specific and precise in the definition, Administration officials on a call with reporters said it would require more people to register for a federal selling license and run a background check on the person they are selling to.

President Joe Biden said in a statement he has spent time with people who lost loved ones to gun violence, and that he is taking action to make sure fewer guns are sold without background checks.

"This is going to keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers and felons. And my Administration is going to continue to do everything we possibly can to save lives," he said. "Congress needs to finish the job and pass universal background checks legislation now.”

The final rule was signed off by Attorney General Merrick Garland.

^ I’ve executed search warrants and agree with what you state however, “after 6am” isn’t similar to 3-5, particularly in a residential area.

Evidently it’s come out that the ATF agents didn’t have their body cameras on which is a violation of their policies.

5 shot, including 2 kids, during senior skip day water gun fight in Greenbelt

Police in Prince George's County are investigating after multiple people were shot in the Greenbelt area near Schrom Hills Recreation Center. Police believe it began as a senior skip day for students across multiple high schools in the area.

Investigators with Greenbelt Police say a group of roughly 600 people had planned the water gun fight in Bowie Friday afternoon. Bowie Police and Prince George's County Police dispersed the group, who made its way to Schrom Hills Park in Greenbelt.

During a press conference Greenbelt Chief Police, Richard Bowers, said that Park Police patrolled the area at 1:30 p.m. and reported no one was in the park. About an hour later, Greenbelt Police was notified of the large crowd at the park.

Greenbelt Police, Maryland State Police, and Prince George's County Police all responded to monitor the situation and keep an eye on the group. According to officials there were between 20-30 officers present to monitor this large group.

Police say, within 15 minutes of officers being present 8-10 shots rang off. Five boys were injured in the shooting ranging from ages 16-to-18-years-old. One of the victims is currently in critical condition. The remaining four are stable according to hospital employees.

Police are still searching for the shooter, they believe the suspect slipped away while everyone was panicked and running out of the park. Officers do not think they are looking for multiple shooters.

Supreme Court will take up 'ghost guns' case next term

The Supreme Court said Monday it would take up the issue of "ghost guns" next term and the Biden administration's appeal seeking to regulate the self-assemble weapons kits as any other firearm.

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals struck down a 2022 regulation from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that determined the sale of weapons kits requires a background check and serialization of the parts for law enforcement tracking.

President Joe Biden had announced the new regulations in a White House event from the Rose Garden in April 2022.

18-year-old pizza delivery driver shot at 7 times after driveway mix-up

An 18-year-old pizza delivery driver in Tennessee was shot at multiple times while on the job after he accidentally parked in the wrong driveway.

Caiden Wheeler, an 18-year-old high school student, is still processing what happened to him Monday night in Ashland City. The Domino’s employee was on his first and only delivery of the night when he was shot at seven times after parking in the wrong driveway.

“Nothing close to what I thought would happen on a delivery, I’ll say that,” Wheeler said. “‘Cause I was literally about to get killed right there, so it’s attempted murder in my opinion.”

On the quiet, residential North Poole Street, most of the houses are only a few feet from each other. Wheeler accidentally parked at 114B instead of 118, which is next door. He dropped the pizza off at the correct house and got back in his truck.

Police say that’s when 32-year-old Ryan Bab**** used a handgun to shoot the driver-side below the gas tank, the wheel on the driver-side and right above the driver-side window. Police recovered seven shell casings at the scene.

“I understand keeping your firearm, trying to protect your family, but I don’t think you should automatically just shoot at somebody because they pulled in. I don’t think that’s right,” Wheeler said.

The suspect told police he thought someone was breaking into his car, so he went outside and started shooting. Wheeler’s car wasn’t marked, but he was in a Domino’s uniform and had a pizza delivery bag.

House Republicans urge Gov. Moore to veto gun industry measure

With Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) scheduled to sign more than 200 bills into law Thursday, the state’s leader continues to receive letters and verbal pleas to veto certain legislation the General Assembly approved this year.

The House Republican Caucus has asked Moore to veto House Bill 947 – Gun Industry Accountability Act – which would give the Office of the Attorney General and the 24 local state’s attorneys authority to sue firearms manufacturers and gun dealers. The bill isn’t listed as part of Thursday’s bill signing ceremony.

The legislation sponsored by Del. N. Scott Phillips (D-Baltimore) would permit those legal officers to seek “injunctive relief, restitution, compensatory and punitive damages, reasonable attorney’s fees and costs and any other appropriate relief.”

**** the Maryland House Republican Caucus! I pray that Moore does sign this into law, so that gun manufacturers, many of whom have made obscene profits in the last decade, can start footing the bill for the carnage their products produce across this country.

Obviously, if enacted, this law will be court challenged almost immediately, but could provide standing for more states to enact similar laws.

Bump stock ban, electronic firearm sale record bills fail in Pennsylvania House

The divisive issue of gun control brought a rally and two failed attempts at passing legislation on Tuesday to the Pennsylvania Capitol.

A bill banning bump stocks and similar devices failed in a 101-100 vote in the Pennsylvania House on a near party-line vote that saw one Democrat, Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria County, side with Republicans in keeping the bill short by a single vote needed to pass.

The same margin held for a bill that would require firearm dealers to report gun sales electronically. Both pieces of legislation could be brought up for reconsideration.

"Look at the FBI crime statistics — actually putting criminals in jail is what works, not creating new crimes. Not by duplicating something that is already covered in federal law," said Rep. Bryan Cutler during the debate over the bump stock bill.

Bump stocks are devices that use a gun's recoil to make the act of pulling the trigger of a semi-automatic weapon easier and faster, substantially increasing the rate of fire.

The devices were banned by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms under the Trump administration following the Las Vegas music festival shooting in 2018 that left dozens dead.

However, that ban is being challenged in the U.S. Supreme Court that the ATF was not allowed to make the decision to prohibit bump stocks and the measure should have come from Congress.

Mapping Gun Violence

The Times found that, by the end of last year, one in seven Americans lived within a quarter mile of a recent fatal shooting

As Covid swept the United States, another epidemic took hold: Americans shot one another at the fastest pace since the 1990s.

To document the toll, we plotted every fatal shooting on a map and then compared the four pandemic years with the four years that came before. Not only were more people killed, we found, but the boundaries of where these killings took place expanded. By the end of last year, one in seven Americans lived within a quarter mile of a recent fatal shooting, up from one in nine before the pandemic.

Change in fatal shootings since 2016-2019

-10          -8          -4          -2           +2           +4           +8        +10          No shootings

philly-change-600.jpg

PHILADELPHIA

Why did shootings surge during the pandemic? Americans bought more guns, turning violent disputes more deadly. They also used more drugs, leading to more violent conflicts. School buildings closed, and once-busy streets emptied. Gangs became more active. And after George Floyd’s murder, reform measures and criticism of the police led some departments to pull back from enforcement.

We have been able to tell the story of gun violence more granularly with data from the Gun Violence Archive — neighborhood by neighborhood, instead of city by city. The analysis, which The Times published today, found:

  • The violence spread in cities nationwide. One area of downtown Austin, Texas, famous for its thriving nightlife saw 17 shootings during the pandemic years, up from six in the four years before. In Everett, Wash., a smaller city where gun violence had been rare, a series of shootouts involved young people.
  • The shootings got worse in dangerous neighborhoods, too. The Kensington section of Philadelphia was already one of the most violent places in the United States. One block of 167 residents had 24 fatal shootings in the four years before the pandemic. In the four years that followed, there were 64.
  • A citywide homicide rate offers an incomplete picture, because the effects of violence are felt unevenly. One-quarter of Chicago residents lived in neighborhoods with four or more shootings during the pandemic years, while one-third lived in areas where there were no fatal shootings nearby.

Tell me your aim is poor, without telling me your aim is poor.

Unless you're going to battle, why do you need 62 rounds?  And if you're going to battle, I'd prefer something more than a handgun with extra ammo.

What percentage of people with large gun collections do you think fantasize about committing mass shootings? Not necessarily would come up with a detailed plan or anything but just romanticize the idea of mowing down masses of people? 60-70 percent?

Probably the same 60-70% what fantasizes about defending freedumbs from a tyrannical government. 🤭

Homeowner defending his wife uses knife to cut armed man ‘to pieces,’ Florida cops say

A homeowner defending his wounded wife grabbed a seven-inch knife and “went to work” on the accused gunman, cutting him “to pieces,” according to Florida investigators.

The suspect was “very much deceased by the time the deputies could get to him,” Highlands County Sheriff Paul Blackman said in a video posted Friday, May 17, on Facebook.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. May 16 inside an Avon Park home, about a 75-mile drive south from Orlando.

“Deputies found two possible victims, a female and a male, both 69 years of age. Both victims had what can be described a serious injuries,” Blackman said.

“It was discovered that Lindsey Glenn used a ruse to gain entry into the victims’ residence. Once inside the residence, he produced a firearm and shot the female victim in the face. The male victim, seeing his wife shot, armed himself with what is described as a seven-inch garden knife.”

In the minutes that followed, the homeowner “went to work” with the knife, overpowering the suspect and killing him, officials said.

“Ultimately, the suspect Lindsey Glenn was cut to pieces,” Blackman said.
