The redisctricting alone probably gives the gop the house in 22. Only way that doesn’t happen is if Dem turnout is similar to 2020 and the gop nominates a bunch more mtg’s and Trump himself injects into the local races. John Lee, the mayor of North Las Vegas, launched his campaign to unseat Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak on Monday. His entrance into the 2022 race came weeks after he had switched parties, accusing Democrats of drifting toward socialism and embracing "cancel culture." Lee, a 65-year-old cancer survivor and former state lawmaker who was elected mayor in 2013 and reelected in 2017, announced his positive test in a Facebook post on Monday night -- without explaining why he had not been vaccinated. Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), who leads the Republican Study Committee, is reportedly circulating a memo with the subject line, “Tie Biden Agenda to Inflation.” It tells members to “explain to voters how inflation is Democrats’ hidden tax on the Middle Class.” The memo was first obtained by Axios on Monday. The GOP effort to paint the Biden administration as vectors of an impending economic downfall attempts to seize on Americans’ fears about an economy in flux following the global pandemic. As businesses are beginning to reopen after more than a year of being impeded by coronavirus restrictions, many expect the country to experience transitory inflation as the economy works through temporary mismatches between demand and supply that routinely occur in the first stage of an economic recovery. Last month, inflation rose at its fastest pace since 2009. The memo casts the problem not in terms of the pandemic, but of taxpayer dollars being put towards COVID-19 relief checks and “generous unemployment benefits” will tank the economy. The memo weaponizes an op-ed published in the Washington Post by Larry Summers, President Clinton’s Treasury secretary and former director of the National Economic Council during the Obama administration, by focusing on Summers’ warnings of the risk of inflation expectations rising sharply. (Banks fails to acknowledge that Summers also takes aim at the Trump administration’s “indefensible delays” of safety-net measures during the pandemic in the last months of the former president’s term.) NBC News first reported Bundy’s candidacy. Bundy aims to unseat Idaho Gov. Brad Little (R), who faced a recall campaign last year by anti-government activists over his coronavirus restrictions. The effort was unsuccessful after failing to collect enough signatures to trigger a vote. Bundy, who is not currently registered to vote, told NBC News on Monday he has not yet formally announced a gubernatorial run. “The people of Idaho are very freedom-minded,” Bundy told NBC News. “I had never desired (to run for office), but I knew as early as 2017 that I would run for governor of Idaho.” Bundy said he views his candidacy as an act of protest. “I want to make the point that I’m not very happy with the Republican Party. I would never be a Democrat,” Bundy told NBC News. “The Republican Party has not done a very good job of standing for liberty and securing the rights for the people.” Bundy has been banned from the Idaho state Capitol building since last August after he and dozens of members of his People’s Rights organization — a Bundy-led nationwide and extremely eclectic “Uber-like protective service” for COVID-19 protesters across 16 states — staged a series of protests at the Statehouse over coronavirus restrictions. Bundy was arrested at the Idaho State Capitol twice in two days on charges of trespassing and resisting and obstructing officers as part of a protest while the state legislature considered coronavirus-related measures. However, the ban did not deter Bundy from returning to the Idaho State Capitol in April, when he was arrested twice within two hours. This, by cancelling Attorney General Mark Brnovich, perhaps the party’s best shot at picking up a seat in Arizona. The ex-president on Saturday called out Brnovich for the apparent sin of refusing to buy into the delusion that Trump really won Arizona. “The lackluster Attorney General of Arizona, Mark Brnovich, has to get on the ball and catch up with the great Republican Patriots in the Arizona State Senate,” Trump said, in a statement. “As massive crime in the 2020 Election is becoming more and more evident and obvious, Brnovich is nowhere to be found.” By that, Trump means that Brnovich hasn’t thrown in with the conspiracy crowd and the grifters who have convinced a shockingly high number of Republicans that something nefarious happened here. Brnovich is widely expected to run for the Senate seat now held by Democrat Mark Kelly. He’s the best known of the likely Republican candidates and he’s smart enough not to repeat the mistakes of appointed Sen. Martha McSally, who lost – twice – because she tied herself too tightly to Trump.
