Since the NFL is trying to become international, and since we have some Brits and Canucks on this board, I want to wish them all the best today. It's basically where bosses would traditionally give a "Christmas box" to their employees the first weekday after Christmas. It's a British Empire thing. Gibbs Hog Heaven Posted December 26, 2016 Share Posted December 26, 2016 As far as I've always been aware it was traditionally the day that those in servitude (think Downton Abbey or Up Stairs, Down Stairs) got the day off and received their present, or 'box' of a bonus from their rich employees. But that tradition is LONG past and it now just serves as an additional holiday and the day when all the crazy mad sales start. You? My family no longer celebrates a traditional Boxing Day or Boxing Day Eve. There's just been so much religion interjected into it that I'm finding it more and more difficult to teach my children about the commercialism that is supposed to be at the heart of the season.
