The Running Game

Why was it so bad tonight? Should we have stuck with Sully at center and moved Long to guard? I thought we had a good O-Line. How could we have crapped the bed so bad tonight. We peaked too early in the season and losing the Lions and tieing with the Bengals doomed us. Very disappointing.

And we supposedly have one of the best O-Lines in the league. Seemed worse than last year tonight.

We do? Kirk has a quick trigger finger so they don't give up many sacks, but they rarely pile drive anyone in the run game.

Panthers are excellent against the run.

With that said, our OL isn't a very good run blocking line. We need upgrades at LG and C. Also I think Moses is a bit soft/finessey to be a top notch run blocker. He's not bad in pass pro but he doesn't really maul people in the run game.

Also take into account, our offense is featured around guys like Reed and Jackson who are non factors when it comes to run blocking. How often do guys blow up our run plays from the edge?

We have a terrible run blocking OL. Why this is surprising anyone that watched this team at this point, is beyond me. It wasn't good last year either. It's SOFT. Yeah, we're good going backwards (pass pro) not not good going forwards. We don't move anyone off the ball. We're not physical at the point of attack, and haven't been in years.

This is old news, and it wont change with the current crop of players and coaches.

There have been several games this year... maybe as many as five that the Redskins acted like they gave up on the run before the opening kickoff. They were not going to run. They were not going to try to run.

I'm pretty sure they lost all of these games.

Interesting tweet. Can't speak for the metrics but if these are even remotely accurate, it illustrates our struggles running the ball. We are ranked in the top half overall ONLY because the numbers are so skewed by how good Trent is on the left side. The interior and right side of the OL are terrible all together and it's clear they get no push in comparison.

It may be a numbers game but why haven't we sprinkled in Brown or Jones?

Jones had his chance, and blew it.

Every time he got the ball, he had to stop in the backfield to make up his mind which direction he wanted to go.

Then throw in his ball security issues and poor pass catching abilities, he pretty much made his own bed.

The line needs help; they're good in pass protection but get no push in the running game. It doesn't help when you have TEs who don't like to block.

It was embarrassing on Monday when the example they showed of our "great o-line" was Kelley getting stopped at the line of scrimmage (as usual) and then the line-men pushing him forward for the touch-down. Totally missing the point that they completely screwed up on the job they are supposed to do which is block!
