I'm a big fan of the humble bundle. I did snag one of their Android deals, but it was a puzzle bundle. That's my favorite kind of phone game anyway.

Edit: Herp derp, look at that. I just went and looked at what all's in the bundle I bought and half of them are RPGs. It has taken me so long to work through the puzzles that I forgot. Well that solves that problem. Thanks for reminding me Poker!

Oh, which bundle was it you got, out of curiosity?

There was a Kemco bundle that was all RPGs. I've only gotten around to starting one of them, though.

I didn't really think, in this day and age, anyone really needed to be reminded of this...

don't plug your usb drives with all your porn into your work machines.

you may not enjoy explaining to your supervisor why you plugged a device in that had files with certain names on it.

the conversation i have with this supervisor is going to be fun. though it's not as awkward as finding rhymes-with-pics pics on someone's company cell phone. thankfully i haven't, but i know people who have and we laugh at them from time to time.

Who keeps hard copies of their porn anyhow?

Pun intended.

My thought: This is something that will become a rampant problem and a nightmare for the federal government.

It already is. If you follow security blogs it's been a pretty serious problem for a while now. The main stream media (and the government in terms of publicly addressing things) is just really, really slow to react and respond to these things. I think I've brought it up 3 or 4 times in different threads (including the one about taxes) and it's not because I'm some big industry insider or working on the program, it's just been regularly scrolling across my news reader for the last 2 years. They should have come up with a way to fix this... I think this year is going to be the first time the general public hears about it, and the government starts to tell us how big of a problem it i s.

It was weird because we've had some HUGE data breaches over the last ~12 months. But... there was very little to no activity from them. People at certain companies with certain levels of clearance were targeted (and in a pretty interesting way) from the OPM leak, but for a minute people were writing about how they couldn't figure out why they weren't seeing the data being used more. Then they all started saying they're expecting them to really hit the IRS hard with fake tax returns this year....

You just don't need that much information. You're making up the job information to just get as much back as you can without throwing a flag in the automated system.

---------------------------

on a separate note, there's a truck commercial where they're out in the middle of no where. one truck has 'built-in wifi' and the other is towing an old trailer with a satellite dish on it. the host of the commercial asks the people - which one would you rather work from on your way back into town? (or something to that affect)

the problem is the truck with 'built-in wifi' is working over LTE and you need a cell tower and being out in the middle of nowhere it's hard to believe that truck would actually work. the one towing the trailer with the dish (that they're making fun of) is the one that would actually work...

I talk to so many small and medium sized orgs that have utterly neglected security for years. Many are starting to come around. Usually takes a data breach to wake up people that control the budget. I'm working with a small law firm now that indicated they had been hit with ransomware something like 3x in the past year or so. They're finally looking at how to do something proactive to identify malicious activity before it's too late. Same story happening everywhere around the world now... "There are two kinds of companies, those that have been breached and those that don't yet know they've been breached."

It's a huge problem... Silver lining of course is that for me, business is a boomin.

I dunno, satellite dish is a pretty ****ty option.

I don't need a vehicle with built in wifi.

I need a vehicle that will tether off of my phone.

We already have a connected device on us at all time and by and large they work flawlessly. The car makers shouldn't be busy building wifi into their vehicles because, just like every other piece of infotainment equipment they install, they're going to do an awful job at it. I have a 2015 Highlander that is connected to my phone but the "apps" that are built into the truck work terribly. I just use my phone to stream anything I can over Bluetooth. The sooner that the automakers allow both Apple and Google to work through their infotainment systems instead of around them the better.

Anyone (probably 97%, just a guess) who buys a new car certainly owns a smart phone. Let the smart phone do what it's supposed to do.

When I drive anywhere on vacation, I am thrilled I have a mobile hot spot.  My kids use the internet on their laptops for long drives, sometimes my wife too.  The cell phone as a hot spot leaves a lot to be desired as far a performance, especially for more than one device.

Buys 2 new Lenovo computers for employees who like windows.

Powers on Lenovo.

Says no to the 20 questions wanting me to sign up for Microsoft Account and Lenovo Accounts.

Windows 10 patches update, reboot.

Installs MS office on Windows 10 computer, why do I need media in my start menu?

MS office doesn't appear in start menu.

Clicks new search tool, wait I don't need Cortana deville popup.  I also don't need a 30 day free trial for the preloaded virus scanner Lenovo packed on there.

Checks and see there are a bunch more patches that need to install.  Clicks to upgrade because my office people getting these machines aren't technical.

Upgrade takes almost an hour.

Reboots.

Cannot get on internet, upgrade wipes out wireless driver.  Wireless driver not available at Lenovo, compatible one must be downloaded from Intel.

Internet Explorer gone, wait no the E is still there, oh it's "Edge" with the IE E in italics.

Reaffirms my reason to hate Windows although it's not all Microsoft's fault.

The reason office didn't appear in the start menu is because it has to be indexed. It's not like the old start menu.

The rest of your problems are because lenovo sucks.

I say that as someone who uses a lenovo laptop for work. They took the thinkpad line and destroyed it. Their drivers (especially wireless) are utter garbage. I'll never recommend another lenovo product ever.

Also their 'power management' software that overrides the default windows power management is complete trash. It'll screw with your display settings (even on a desktop that doesn't have a battery to save power on...).

Also, I've found the best way to deal with their ****ty wireless drivers is to go into the power management settings for the device and disable the 'allow this device to turn off to save power' and all that crap. Seems to really help with the device just being completely crashed out when coming out of sleep.

also, if you're an apple fanboy and you bought a windows 10 device and it wasn't a surface then you don't actually understand what it is that makes apples products so rock solid.

(edit: assuming you had the money for a surface. if you were just buying a cheap computer then you're kind of getting what you paid for... i royally screwed up getting this lenovo over a surface. should have known better, but we didn't think they'd screw up the thinkpad line so bad so quick :( )

Well having been an IBM employee (twice) in my past and living on ThinkPad's I always viewed them as the best PC I ever owned.  IBM gave us new ThinkPad's every few years.  I never imagined it would be such a piece of crap.  I will never purchase another Lenovo.
