Kilmer17
I love reading the other soccer thread, but it seems to be more Euro League specific. So I thought I'd start a US specific thread. First up- USA announces 23 man Gold Cup roster. http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2015/06/23/10/30/150623-mnt-gold-cup-roster-release GOALKEEPERS (3): Brad Guzan (Aston Villa/2007), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake/2011, 2013), William Yarbrough (Club Leon)DEFENDERS (7): Ventura Alvarado (Club America), John Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Timmy Chandler (Eintracht Frankfurt), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders FC/2009), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy/2013), Fabian Johnson (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Tim Ream (Bolton Wanderers/2011)MIDFIELDERS (9): Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake/2009, 2013), Alejandro Bedoya (Nantes/2011, 2013), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC/2007, 2011), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo/2005), Mix Diskerud (New York City FC/2013), Alfredo Morales (Ingolstadt), DeAndre Yedlin (Tottenham Hotspur), Gyasi Zardes (LA Galaxy), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)FORWARDS (4): Jozy Altidore (Toronto FC/2011), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders FC/2005, 2007, 2011), Aron Johannsson (AZ Alkmaar), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes/2011, 2013) First reaction- Wondo????? Again???? Hasn't he whiffed enough for the stars and stripes? US plays Guatemala in a warm up match on July 3, then opens Gold Cup group play on July 7th vs Honduras. If they win the Gold Cup again, the US gets an automatic bid to the 2017 Confed cup. If they lose, they will play the winner in a one game playoff for that right. Old Bay
Agree on Wondo. I'm not familiar with William Yarbrough, really, outside of seeing his name a few times. What's he like in comparison to Hamid and Johnson and their development?

I would have rather had Morris on the team then Wondo. They really couldn't find a place for Bobby Wood? The Gold Cup provisional roster had already been named before Bobby Wood had the good games coming on against Germany and the Netherlands. He wouldnt have been able to be added even if Jurgen wanted to. Edited June 24, 2015 by MisterPinstripe

They still can't get Wondolowski right on a jersey?
Kilmer17
I'm not sure about the rule, but a team can make changes at some point during the gold cup. Not sure how many and not sure if they have to choose from prelim roster. I also don't understand why we brought Davis and Ream over Brek Shea

I also don't understand why we brought Davis and Ream over Brek Shea They can make 6 changes after the group stage of the Gold Cup, but all of the players have to come from the prelim roster. Definitely a few selections I dont understand/agree with but with Jurgens track record hard to argue too much. The thought of Wondo just keeps conjuring the miss in the World Cup that would have put us through.

pjfootballer
Thanks Kilmer. Is it OK to talk MLS in here in addition to the U.S. National teams? That seems to get buried in the other thread also.
Kilmer17
I hope it can be everything soccer in the us related. Men's national. Women's national. Mls. Lower leagues. College etc
pjfootballer
DC United still in first place. I'll be watching the stadium progression. I can't understand what took so long and why it will take so long to build. Seems like other teams stadiums went up really fast. Long overdue for the team. pjfootballer
Us China today. went to the United Revolution game Sunday were u there I live 7 hours away, work for a living and have a family. I watch every DC United game when they are televised and have gone to games when living in the area. I've been supporting them since their inception. I will be up for the Redskins-Saints game this year. The type of work I do, I used to do in DC. I get paid $20K per year more working down here then in DC and the cost of living is lower here. Better have the doctor recheck your meds. Edited June 26, 2015 by pjfootballer
Kilmer17
The US should handle China tonight. But with rapinoe and Holliday, they will struggle to create from the midfield. Look for lots and lots of long balls to Abby. I don't think china will break our defense. They've been outstanding.

ixcuincle
I'm proud of what China has done so far. This is the youngest team and they've played so hard. They've got heart and steel roses are not a bad team at all especially on defense. But their run ends tonight. Because murica has never not finished in the top three of the women's world Cup. And they're sure as **** not ending that streak tonight. China is gritty and a tough test. But we are better even without holiday and rapinoe. USA 1-0 China. Perhaps in extra time or a shootout. Elessar78
tonight let's just win ugly (if we have to). Long balls and crosses to Abby until she falls down with a concussion.
Destino
US wins again! Next up Germany, because no one can ever win anything in international soccer without facing the Germans.
ixcuincle
China did a lot better than I thought they would. I love the US but China wasn't expected to do much. They had a very young team and made it far. I'm happy the US won and I'm happy China made it this far.
Burgold
Congrats to the US women. Watched most of it which is unusual for me. US dominated everywhere but the scoreboard. Then again, it's soccer. A 1-0 win might be a blowout.
ixcuincle
It's been like that for 4 straight games now. They haven't let anything in. Unprecedented in US history for them to shut out opponents 4 straight. Germany didn't do anything either. In fact Germany only tied the game and kept their hopes alive against France because of a penalty, which was controversial to say the least. We can shut down Germany. Plus their coach was taking some shots at the US. So **** them. Beat their ass.
DC9
I have a couple of questions about the thread rules: Do we have to sponsor non-Americans to view and post in this thread? And do we need to be sponsored by a Euro to view and comment in the other thread? I guess I'll sponsor GHH and FrFan... maybe Corcaigh, but I won't be responsible for the nights he is watching curling. Can we sponsor more than this? I'm still reviewing MorrisonJ's request... it's just a little difficult to understand at the moment cause he's actually spelling the words with a southern accent. I also assume Martin gets immunity from sponsorship as he is a mod? EDIT: I also request that UKSkinsFan and LondonKev be required to take a literacy test before sponsorship is approved.
