Mr. Sinister
Man I was gonna come in here to talk about Francis Ford Coppola's merlot. Best I've ever had. Was so good I ended up crushing the whole bottle the first time
PCS
This'll work. Must be my close proximity to California these days. I seem to have a taste for more wine.
PigskinRedskin
I've come to truly appreciate and enjoy wine and after having tried so many, there's really so many different tastes that almost anyone can really get into it. I'll continue to post any new wines I try in here for you guys, and of course, if anyone has any favorites, do share! Hopefully, this upcoming Redskins season, we don't have to resort to to many hard drinks to forget the games...haha
abdcskins
Nice! I love red wine, absolutely love it. I love big wines, cabernets with ripe, lush red fruit and long finishes. Been building my cellar, have a really good collection of 25-30 bottles. I go for more higher end wines, but not ridiculous. Buy a lot from wine.com. If you guys have heard of cellartracker (awesome personal online wine catalog), here is my profile - handle name is Hemingway. You can peep my notes there, trying to figure out how to make my cellar public. http://www.cellartracker.com/user.asp?iUserOverride=366194 Recently I've had these wines that I like - 2009 Coho Headwaters 2011 Faust Cabernet Sauvingnon 2010 Qupé Syrah Sonnie's Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard - this wine is fantastic! Amazing bouqet, complex with a smooth long finish. 2009 Sommavite Brunello di Montalcino (you can find this at Trader Joe's for about 20 bucks) 2010 Sbragia Family Home Ranch Merlot (about $24 a bottle) I would recommend calling the winery directly and buying from them. You get a little better deal and pay the same for shipping. Also just bought a couple of highly rated Malbecs called Privada Norton, haven't drank them yet though. Momma There Goes That Man
Man I was gonna come in here to talk about Francis Ford Coppola's merlot. Best I've ever had. Was so good I ended up crushing the whole bottle the first time I got a bottle of this at some restaurant in Atlantic City after having a good night at the tables. Can't remember where but it was great. You're the only person I've come across that's also had it. I'd expect nothing less from FFC
abdcskins
Yeah I like that Coppola Merlot.

I am going to have to try that Coho Headwaters, sounds awesome. I'm not a huge white wine drinker but I just had a rep. come in from The Prisoner Wine Company and tried their Blindfold White Blend, holy crap. Haha, it's only ~$25 or so, and it almost reminded me of a Montrachet. I will have to keep checking out your Cellartracker notes, thanks for the info. I just made my cellar public if you wanna peep that too. I'm always buying new bottles, it's a hobby/addiction of mine haha. Btw I'm pretty sure Coho sold out their 2009 vintage. I bought two bottles directly from the winery and the guy said they only had 4 left, and that was almost two months ago. The 2010 is available though. And I'm the same, I'm not a huge white wine guy. Usually on a warm summer night I'll have a nice crisp chardonnay. Or if I'm having a nice seafood meal.
Duckus
Bogle (all varieties) is my go-to brand for cheap quality wine. Easy to pick up in a pinch on the way to someone's house - most grocery stores will carry it by my house.
PCS
One of the things I do like about living in this neck of the woods of Nevada is that there are several places in town to get all kinds of wonderful wine,(and craft beers). A couple of them are easily within walking distance too. That could be bad. Especially after I write some of these down.
Kosher Ham
If you enjoy Zins and are fortunate enough to get your hands on any of the Turley Zins pull the trigger. Simply amazing. I met Helen Turley ( formerly with Frog's Leap) in the Mid-90's and the restaurant that I worked at the time was one of the only on the east coast to sell their products. Some wonderful Petite Syrahs also.
SWFLSkins
You can never go wrong with a Rodney Strong, usually around $15. when on sale.
steveo21
Could some of you wine connoisseurs please list some of your favorite local wineries? Virginia and Maryland would be the best distance wise? Thank you all ! Love this site.
Kilmer17
Decoy merlot or cab. It's made by Duckhorn as their second line. 20-25 bucks Bell Cabernet and claret. Fantastic wines. 25-30 bucks If you are looking higher end you can't go wrong with Silver Oak. The alexander valley is less expensive than the napa, but still high quality. 60 per bottle. I also like Nickel and nickel. Variety of single vineyard wines. Reds and whites. Haven't had a bad one. 80 per bottle. For those adventuresome- Wtso.com. One bottle offered at a time at unbelievable discounts. Try it out.
Kosher Ham
I don't typically drink Chardonnay (or white wine for that matter) , but the Chalk Hill Estates or even Cakebread are generally very well done. Steve, I don't know that I have had any other wine from the MD/VA area besides Naked Mountain Chardonnay...it was pretty good. Wish I was able to tell you more. I am more familiar with the California and Oregon wineries.
S.T.real,lights,out
My absolute favorite wine is Cagnina di Romagna. It is a slightly sweet red wine. About $10 a bottle and its amazing.
MintHillSkinsFan
I really like the red wines from Washington State. The The Columbia Crest H3 Cab was my go to until we discovered Radius which is the house brand of Total Wine. The Radius Cab is our favorite but their Merlot and Red Blend are fantastic as well. PigskinRedskin
Unfortunately I am unfamiliar with wines around the Virginia/Maryland area. I reside up next to the Finger Lakes, so I happen to begun to delve further into their more serious wines and wineries. The Decoy wines are awesome, I definitely agree. Another great Cabernet Sauvignon is Hall. Very full and rich. SWFL, have you ever tried Rodney Strong single vineyards? Brother's Ridge or Alexander Crown (~$60), They're cabs and oh so delicious. I was out there in July, great wine and great vineyard. As for Chardonnay's, Rombauer is always a good one to go for! Speaking of Silver Oak, you ever try their other line, Twomey? The Merlot is awesome!
Kosher Ham
Silver Oak is typically very good. I enjoy Stag's Leap also. As far as Cabs. Too many to name really.
skinsmarydu
Columbia Crest is a good vineyard, got a fabulous 2001 Merlot in '06 for a bargain price, couldn't believe it. Col de Sasso is my very favorite. Iirc, it's a sangiovese blend.

Some wonderful Petite Syrahs also. I had a Frog's Leap zinfandel at a restaurant recently, and absolutely loved it. Will keep an eye out for Turley. If you are looking higher end you can't go wrong with Silver Oak. The alexander valley is less expensive than the napa, but still high quality. 60 per bottle. Love Silver Oak. Have a 2010 Alexander Valley cab that I'm holding on to, gonna give in a couple more years in my cellar. Very earthy/oaky. I really like the red wines from Washington State. The The Columbia Crest H3 Cab was my go to until we discovered Radius which is the house brand of Total Wine. The Radius Cab is our favorite but their Merlot and Red Blend are fantastic as well. Every heard of Grammercy Cellars? Their cabernets are awesome. Oh and if you guys like Silver Oak and Stag's Leap, keep an eye out for Grgich Hills. Another mass producing winery that doesn't lack in quality whatsoever. They grow their grapes and produce their wine through organic and biodynamic methods.
