A New Jersey teen managed to breach security in middle of the night and climb the spire of 1 World Trade Center to take photos, authorities said.

The teen was identified in court papers as Justin Casquejo, who told police, "I was walking around the construction site and figured out how to access the Freedom Tower rooftop."

Casquejo, 16, was arrested for trespassing at 6 a.m. Sunday morning after a construction supervisor spotted him coming down from the 1,176-foot building, according to Port Authority police.

Teen sneaks past sleeping WTC guard, reaches 104th floor

Published March 20, 2014 / New York Post

A New Jersey teen captivated by 1 World Trade Center sneaked out of his home in the dead of night, got past the wall of security — and a sleeping guard — making it all the way up to the spire, The Post has learned.

Scrawny 16-year-old Justin Casquejo crawled through a hole in a Ground Zero fence at about 4 a.m. Sunday and got a lift up the tower from a clueless union elevator operator, even though he had no ID.

I just finished reading about this. It's bad on a number of levels. Also, because he got caught and his phone was confiscated, we'll never see some of the (presumedly) dope pictures he took.

If he's smart, he was auto-uploading those pics in real time as he took them.  They may be perfectly safe.

And apparently he's at least as smart as a security guard and an elevator operator put together...

Yep, he's guilty.

I think the appropriate punishment is something like a fine of 1,776 dollars.

Actually, he should be shot. From the threads the last few days, didn't you know that being in the wrong place at the wrong time = justifiable murder?

That kid has bawse.

Did anyone else find it weird that he had a cell AND a camera on him? Unless he figured he wanted the camera as a backup in case the cell didn't have reception. Though that's pretty unlikely.

He had a GoPro - which you can fixate to an object on your person...like a hat or something, so that you can go about your activity (scaling a large building) and have the camera focus on you while you continue hands-free.

is that any odder than he could sue the owners if hurt after sneaking in?
