2013 Major League Baseball Thread

Thought I'd go ahead and start the thread for 2013. Didn't see where anyone else had done so.

Anyway, I'm stoked about the Justin Upton trade on Thursday. Gives us one of the top outfields in all of baseball. At least on paper. The Braves definitely have to be considered one of the favorites, heading into 2013.

I thought we fleeced Arizona. I loved Martin Prado. But he likely wasn't going to re-sign with us when his deal was up. And not only do we get Justin Upton, but we get Chris Johnson to play 3B. He is a very underrated player. Delgado had been a bust, to this point. And the other minor leaguers we threw in are no big loss.

Let's talk baseball...

Upton x2 and Heyward, actually Slacky and I were talking about this yesterday, he said that the Braves will set records for strikeouts this year. I couldn't disagree with him.

GO PIRATES

**** SID ****ING BREAM!!!

They very well could league the league in strikeouts. As far as break the record? I highly doubt it.

All 3 outfielders are also capable of putting up 20-30 HR and driving in 75-100 runs. And they can steal some bases. Those guys are also gonna help out the pitching staff tremendously, with the ground they're gonna cover.

The Braves arguably have the best lineup in the NL now. And their pitching is always top notch. And Kimbrel is as good as there is at closing games.

Can't wait!

Wow just looked up the stat: 1529 by Arizona in 2010... in other words: 9.4 per game...

That's just insane...

I know I'm in the minority on this, but is anyone else excited for WBC? I love it!

The winner of the NL East will win the World Series.

The Dodgers and Blue Jays will bust like last year's Marlins. Can't buy a World Series.

I think the Blue Jays have a better base than you may realize. I think they can with the AL East this year. Its pretty much up for grabs with the Yanks turning into dinosaurs (finally).

I have no clue about the AL East. I think the Red Sox are definitely out and the Yankees seem to be fading a bit, but it's hard to count them out. Not sure what to expect from the Rays or O's. The Jays seem loaded, but who knows if that means they win the division.

My predictions:

AL East: Orioles

AL Central: Tigers

AL West: Angels

AL Wildcards: Rangers/Jays

NL East: Nats

NL Central: Cardinals

NL West: Giants

NL Wildcards: Braves/Reds

World Series: Tigers over Reds

I agree. I think the Blue Jays will be a very, very good team this year. As an O's fan, that disappoints me!

I think the AL East is a real toss up between all of them except the Sox. And I wouldn't expect the Sox to be as suck as last year.

O's could definitely pull it out too with some young guys developing. Should be a tough division again, and a great race.

I agree that all 5 are in the picture. I hate to say it, but I see the O's and Sox as the least likely contenders. As much as I enjoyed every pitch from 2012 I just can't see the Orioles replicating last year's success. I think they'll have a year that would have made me proud prior to last year's playoff berth (something like 78-82 wins).

I think the Jays and Rays battle for the top spot while the Yankees fade late in the year.

I think the Blue Jays are going to surprise you.

As far as teams are put together, the Blue Jays and Dodgers couldn't be more different. Toronto made a lot of trades, but the team is solid...much more than just a group of all stars.

People are down on Baltimore, and rightfully so due to the lack of offseason moves. But if Manny keeps playing the way he's playing it would be like adding a good FA.

Bundy's the #2 rated prospect in the league too. That sounds pretty good to me.

AL East - could it really be a Yankee and Red Sox free playoff finally?

NL East - up for grabs between the Nats, Braves, and don't quickly shrug off the Phillies...Chuck better play Ruf and Brown, because they need some youth in that Viagra taking line up!

Phillies are not out of it by any means. Totally agree its a three team race. Maybe three teams from the east make the playoffs.

The biggest concern for the phillies has to be health. The fact is they are getting older, and as players get older, their health fades. They seem reasonably healthy now, but will it hold up. If it does, there top three pitchers are still as good as anyone's in the league. Not sure about their back 2 (Lannan and I'm not sure who the 5th is).

Yup, staying healthy is key. The infield is old as hell - Young, J-Roll, Utley, Howard. Howard I'm not too concerned about as the others. LIke the Revere trade, but we have a very hitter friendly park and get a guy who hasn't hit a MLB homer? Ruf better be given a chance to play every day, becasue he's a late blooming stud.

But the Nats and the Braves are better on paper, so we'll see...

I'm thrilled about the direction of the team. I'm just not sure they are ready to sustain or improve upon a 93-win season. I think they will be about a .500 team which we would have done cartwheels over prior to about June of last year.

One thing I like is that we've added to an already good pitching staff with J. Jergens (sp?) and we get Wada back in the BP. But the lack of a true #4 hitter will come back to bite us in the butt, unless Chris Davis steps up.

I agree. I think we'll win 80ish games and look pretty solid. Basically, I think it'll be a similar year to last year minus the ridiculous success in extra inning and one-run games.
