Why is the music at FedEx so lame?

It was bad. It's like they've tried to "dumb-down" the fan experience with the words coming across the screen. Sorry, there was something beautiful about the quicker tempo and louder volume after a great touchdown. With the "video song", it was almost like I had to stop screaming in joy, compose myself, light a lighter and waive it back and forth. It totally killed my buzz from the touchdown.

Don't get me wrong. I have the "video song" on my iPhone just like any other self-respecting Redskins fan. It just didn't feel right at FedEx.

FWIW, I also prefer the live band over the pre-recorded version.

But my main problem with what comes over the loudspeakers isn't the music as much as the PA announcer. He's toned it down the past couple years, but I went to games at RFK and came to love Phil Hochberg and his understated style of describing the plays.

Seems like over the past couple years the in-game experience from the audio-visual side of things has improved. I'm not talking simply because of the addition of the big screens......just that the commercials and music seem to have been toned down some. Or maybe I've just become numb to it after going to a lot of games.

Oh wait......that dude they show on the big screen prior to kickoff..."ITTTTTTTTTTTTTS TIME!!!" That does annoy me.

As for the band, I miss the early days of JKC/FedEx when the band participated more in the whole game.

I would suspect that until the Redskins make Fed Ex an actual "homefield advantage" the entire gameday experience outside of tailgating will be lame.

I've never liked Snyder, but I can't blame him for the miserable atmosphere that is Fed Ex. He's tried to improve it, but until the 'skins start winning, improvements to the rest of the gameday experience mean nothing.

Yeah, what in God's name was that? The whole "Let's get the fans pumped up" music and videos became very watered down last season, that dumb video and the reduced role of the marching band included.

More band less DJ.

Make it like a college game. Band membership needs to be a paid position so they can have time to be good at it. Let the band jam current pop tunes the way its done at college games.

Cliché DJ music at pro sporting events is so lame

Funny, I was a four games this year and never heard that once.

Ahh, was just joking. I haven't been to a game since the '09 season, but I just remember them playing that constantly for about 5 years after it came out. Figured they might still be throwing it in there. :silly:

why is the music so lame? well, most people listen so some lame-ass music. it sells. it's popular. look at country music. for every Gary Allen there are 10 "red solo cup" singing Toby Keith's. for every Radiohead there are 10 Nicleback's..... pure suckiness.

I think the overall fan experience needs to improve considerably. I also think the music sucks for the most part (Crazy Train over and over). I agree that it has gotten a little bit better over the past few years, but still has a LONG way to go.

I would like to know why we NEVER here the "Hey" song anymore. Not for like 4 years since we beat the Eagles have I heard it. That used to be my favorite when teams were lining up to recieve the kick off, just to let them know what we really thought of them. Na na na naaaaaa na ..... HEY ...YOU $u(K!!!!!!!!

I know there's another thread on this, but taking away the band on "Hail to the Redskins" was an extremely bad idea. The slow version that they play is absolutley terrible and sucks the life out of the stadium.

I think I died a little bit when I read this. :( It's probably old news, but news to me: wow, seriously?! The band doesn't even play on 'Hail to the Redskins' anymore?! Ughhh.

I'm old and have fond, rose-colored memories of RFK, but honestly, it was just SO much cooler back then. First, there was no question of cool vs uncool music. Instead, there was NO music. Except Hail to the Redskins. The noise that filled that stadium was the sound of a roaring crowd, with a curled roof holding in the soundwaves, mixed with air horns, diesel horns for Riggo, and the sound of workboots banging on metal benches. Ah, to go back...

Trying to make any stadium better with "cool" music automatically makes it less cool. Just leave the music for the highlight reels, and focus on the game itself.

I want to kill myself every time I'm at a game and hear:

EV-RY BO-DY CLAP YO HANDS *CLAPCLAPCLAPCLAPCLAPCLAPCLAPCLAPCLAPCLAPCLAPCLAPCLAPCLAPCLAPCLAP*

Also they still play Enter Sandman all the time like we're Virginia Tech or something. The funny thing is there are such better metallica songs or at least guitar riffs to use at a football game, but of course we had to pick their lame mainstream success to go with our lame football team.

We used to overuse that "Hey" thing and I was always amused with the UMD-esque "HEY....YOU SUCK" chant- at least I found it amusing when we were 10-6, not so much after that. I think they stopped playing it from a combination of the mean-spirited fans and the fact that the guy who made that song turned out to be into child porn or he raped a kid or something awful like that.

This past season I heard crazy train over and over. Whoa, look out we're out of control now. I have always found Ozzy post-sabbath to be incredibly lame and that song is no exception. The fact that it was also in that lame ass car commercial that aired all this fall made it even dumber.

I wish they had a variety of music they played and different songs at different games. I don't like the whole cookie cutter lets play the same bull**** over and over thing. Why can't they pay one guy to just have it be his job to come up with the music and make sure everything is clean and edited correctly for use on gameday? What would they have to pay him? He would only work during the football season for 8 weeks. You could probably pay some guy 1,000 dollars per game and they would be sold. Is 8,000 dollars per year too much to pay to bring a little entertainment and variety to the stadium?

...well I guess when we hear crazy train and enter sandman over and over next season we'll remember that apparently, yes. It is too much.

Oh and having the band not play hail to the redskins is so ****ing lame it isn't even funny. How the hell could they do that to us? So that our stupid fans can finally learn the words to the song? I don't care if a bunch of idiots turn out to the game and don't know the words, the band is a tradition.

The team is not dumbing down the fan experience. They're trying to make it better by teaching the words to a bunch of fans who no longer know the damn words. Blame the fans. Not the team. I also blame the younger generation who are more video motivated. It's a generational thing.

I would like to know why we NEVER here the "Hey" song anymore. !

Possibly because

a) The song is BEYOND tired at sporting events and needs to be retired for good along with Song 2 (otherwise known as WOO- HOO), Enter Sandman, Crazy Train, and Welcome to the jungle.

B) The song is by a man convicted of being a pedophile several times over in more than one country. You want your royalty money going to that guy?

Incidentally, I wouldn't mind hearing Start Me Up or We WIll Rock You...seems like you don't hear those too much and how could you get sick of those songs?

Good thread...it seems like a little thing but it's yet another part of the "fan experience" that seems to be completely overlooked and nickel-and-dimed just like so much at Fed Ex. You don't even realize it to you go somewhere like Houston - just like I didn't realize how bad our club section sucked till I went to the Super Dome.

There's something wrong when I'm at the stadium having a beer watching the manliest game ever, and my girl is sitting next to me jamming to Ke$ha...and it's not on her iPod.

Hey, at least she takes engagement pictures in Redskins jerseys. :)

How is "teaching the words" to people in the stadium not dumbing down the fan experience? It's almost an insult to my fanhood by putting the words up on the screen. If you're a self-proclaimed Redskins fan, and you show up to FedEx Field without knowing the words to the fight song, then you should be ashamed of yourself. Seriously.

I'd even take the words on the screen while the band was playing Hail to the Redskins instead of that snoozer of a recording.
