Method 1: 48/2(9+3)=? 48/2(12) --> 48/24=2 or Method 2: 48/2(9+3)=? 48/2(12) --> 24(12)=288 Depends on whether you multiply before you divide (PMDAS method) or if multiplication and division are done at the same time, just left to right. As for my answer? I'm not sure which is correct, but I was always taught the 1st way, so when I did it the first time I got 2. If I'm wrong, at least I admit it. Many people assume that since Multiplication comes before Division in PEMDAS, that it has a higher priority. In actuality they have the same rank and order is determined from left to right. Meaning it looked like this 48/(2(9+3)).
