Redskins to begin licensing rights to wear team apparel at games

By Brian Fantana, Wednesday, March 16

Following their request for the “Redskins” name to not be used in local media, Dan Snyder’s NFL franchise has taken the concept of PSL’s to the next level. Beginning for the 2011 NFL season, fans who want to wear Redskins jerseys, hats, t-shirts and other assorted fan apparel will be required to purchase a “License to Wear”. While exact costs are unknown at this time, it has been confirmed that with your license, you will be given an ID card that you must present to ticket takers when entering the stadium. Fans without the proper license card will be asked to either remove and return fan apparel to their cars, or purchase a one day pass that comes in the form of a hand stamp. Fans who show up to games wearing unauthorized apparel with the Redskins name or logo will have their items confiscated immediately under copyright and trademark laws.

In previous years, the Redskins have found creative ways to keep themselves one of the most profitable franchises in the NFL. From a Redskins credit card which was required to use for purchases such as season tickets. To a VIP exit lane from FedEx field that let fans get to the beltway faster if they were willing to pay an extra fee.

It is unsure if other owners will follow what the Redskins are starting for the next NFL season. However, last season Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys sold access to their new VIF (Very Important Fans) bathrooms which are located all around the new stadium. These bathrooms were continuously maintained and cleaned throughout the games. Also, they were air conditioned and provided a small sitting area for fans who wanted to rest for a few minutes. While met with mostly negative reviews in Dallas, they did meet their quota of fans to buy this new perk.

It's time to mail him all the un-wanted and no longer playing for the Redskins appareal. Let him throw my money away. Start with the Lavar jerseys.

Nice spin... Initially thought this was serious until I read "Beginning for the 2011 NFL season, fans who want to wear Redskins jerseys, hats, t-shirts and other assorted fan apparel will be required to purchase a 'License to Wear'." The picture of Brian Fantana was the icing on the cake.

I have respect for the bussiness man Snyder...you can say what you want but the man knows ways to earn money.

This makes no sence and it goes against the people who support you and make the team go around, without fans there would not be a Redskins organisation. You should pay repect to them.

Maby if this becomes legal everybody should where a jersey of other teams...so it looks like the Skins play a away game at home. We can´t let anybody get away with this.

I love how gullible people can be... Just shows how people do not check resources...

If you think about it, it's not that more far fetched than not being allowed to bring signs into the stadiums or paying to watch practice.

Bizzar? Yes.....Conceivable? Yes again. :yikes:
