The Official Washington Wizards Thread: The JOHN WALL ERA

With Nick Young gone Crawford seems to think that is the green light to chuck up whatever kind of shot he likes. Good grief.

Seraphin is a lot better than I realized initially. I'm sorry Kevin.

The guards have had a green light all year.

It's incredible how inept he is offensively. I mean we're talking about a professional basketball player who can't shoot the damn ball at all!

its annoying how if i were somehow GMwe would have made better picks

I wanted to get Leonard and brooks, kept telling all my friends that, then no didn't happen

To be fair i didn't think brooks would be this good

Vesely was supposedly tabbed as untouchable by our FO prior to the deadline. The only other player given equal status? John Wall.

We're a lot higher on Vesely than I think most are giving credit for. I think we've got big plans for him and definitely envision him as a starting forward at some point down the line. Whether that's at SF or PF probably depends on who we draft this year.

Vesely is good and the offense will come in time for him. It's ridiculously hella early to be trying to evaluate this draft class and say we should have done this or that instead. I think Vesely ends up a much better pro than either Brooks or Leonard. For me, the true gems of this past draft class were Irving, DWill, Kanter, Valanciunas, and Vesely. Everyone else was a significant step down in potential.

The problem with Vesely is that his ball handling and shooting are horrible. People say shooting is the easiest thing to improve, I disagree, but shooting and shot creation aren't the same thing. Vesely in order to be an effective SF has to be able to handle and create in addition to shooting. He's miles away from being an effective starting wing.

I think a shorter path would be adding strength and seeing time at PF. He's clearly better around he basket. He's got ideal length already just needs to move his stuff into the weight room and live there for a while.

Agree on Vesely Steve. You can see the upside in flashes.

Anyway, been thinking about the up coming draft. I've been a Barnes guy for awhile now. Not anymore. I'm officially about Thomas Robinson. I think he's the perfect fit for the anti-clown culture change I've been talking about. I think he's the example of the player that Wall wants to play with and NEEDS to play with. All about business. Plus he's local. Not Baltimore, 'Melo local. He's LOCAL, local. That's my guy. nbadraft.net (snicker) has him going 8th. The much more respectable draftexpress.com has him going 3rd overall.

#2 on my list is Sullinger. For much the same reasons.

Of course both can play too. Not just about personality.

My hell no is Drummond.

My eh, not really feeling it is Davis. Saw a Camby comparison for him. I can see that. Closer to great than bad, but not amazing to me. I think the last thing we need now is a project big man. The key quote for me from DX on Davis (still have him going #1):

With that said, Davis is still a fairly raw prospect in many facets offensively, giving him a considerable amount of room for growth as he continues to develop. If an opposing defense can force him to take a jump-shot, put the ball on the floor, or attempt to score in a post up situation, they have a more than three times better chance of stopping him than if he simply catches the ball in the paint in position to finish.

That doesn't jive very well with the "he grew 8 inches in one year and used to be a point guard!" part of his narrative you often hear on national TV broadcasts, but the truth is he rarely dribbles or takes a shot outside five feet, and isn't overly successful at the moment when he does.

Watching Wilson Chandler play right now. The fact we didn't go after him... And them have the nuggets the space to sign him pisses me off.

Drummond is a poor mans Cousins. I don't want him either.

Davis can pull up and shoot and I think he's actually got pretty high potential as a spot up shooter down the line.

What he's asked to do at Kentucky is limited, but that doesn't mean his talent is limited. I think he's right on schedule offensively and stands to get much, much better.

The only real concern I have with Davis is his weight.

You simply can't get a good feel for Davis without watching him extensively. And if you do watch him extensively, it's really easy to see he's special. I've probably seen like 15 of his games by now. I've never seen a game where he hasn't been the overwhelmingly best and most talented player on the floor. I can go back to the hoops summit game that was just loaded with lotto picks from 2011 and beyond, and it was obvious within minutes that Davis was the best basketball player on the floor.

Drummond is a poor mans Cousins. I don't want him either.

I get two very different vibes from Cousins and Drummond. Drummond isn't a banger and isn't mean like Cousins. He's more of a "smooth" athlete and good natured player. Cousins was a real **** and physical force inside at Kentucky.

Cousins is more in the Shaq school of bigs when he gets good PG play and doesn't get enamored with his mid range game (Kentucky year). Drummond seems more like a poor man's Amar'e Stoudemire.

Cousins has significantly higher potential. I think Cousins is the second or third best center in the league during his prime when it's all said and done. I don't know what Drummond ever becomes. Right now he's little more than a ridiculous athlete and body.

---------- Post added March-20th-2012 at 12:18 AM ----------

I think Marcus Camby is a worst case scenario for Davis. Otherwise, he's a good deal more talented, precocious, and has a lot higher upside. He's a lot more explosive and coordinated than Camby. Davis probably has the best second bounce and the best hands that I've ever seen on a big.

Drummond is more physical than Amare IMO. He's not the angry man cousins is but the poor man comment is more about him being potentially dominant but unable to find the drive to get there. Damn shame too because he's a better athlete than Cousins IMO, much better. His foot speed is insane for his size. Unless you've seen him run you wouldn't believe it.

You're thinking of Camby as a pro. I'm thinking of Camby as a college prospect.

Anyone else see that JJ Hickson was released by the Kings? Remember when the Cavs refused to include him in a deal for Amare and had to get Jamison instead? Did he fall or what? Wow.

I see Vesely maxing out as a defensive specialist off the bench.

I'm not sure his offensive game ever gets to the point where he can crack our starting lineup, particularly since we don't really have dominant scorers as is.

I love what I see from Vesely on defense, but his offense scares. I find it troubling he doesn't have a single move to go to offense, but what concerns me most is that he seems to get scared and speeds up his actions when given the ball with room to operate.

I would hope that talk of him being "untouchable" is just post-trade deadline fluff. He's not the kind of prospect that elicits the "untouchable" label.

They were talking about that on the radio. He went from potential to forgotten in record time.

106.7?

I still think Vesely's upside is prime-AK47. Which is pretty damn good.

Not sure what I was listening to I was cycling through stations at 10:30ish pm after working out. As for Vesely he'll need to really learn to shoot to reach AK47. He wasn't a great shooter but he had three point range and a good long two point shot.

Ah, I was on 106.7 at around 9:30. And my tweets were the topic of the show for the 20 minutes before that. SHF seems like the only person to hear it, was hoping someone else did. I feels important.

And yeah, I'm not saying Vesely is there now, close to there, or even likely to get there. But I think he can get there. And that's very good potential.

Vesely will figure it out and gain confidence on offense in time. He'll probably never be a great ball handler or dynamic scorer. But he'll definitely get good enough to start IMO. In the mean time, he can pass and score assisted points around the rim and get put backs.

They'll have to surround him with high caliber offensive players just to even get him on the court.

You can tell he is a smart player but I don't think some of you realize how much of a self check he is. He is literally Michael Ruffin bad on the offensive end.

Andray Blatche will be shelved for a while to work on his conditioning. #Wizards coach Randy Wittman called it "unfair" to put him out there

His career is over. I doubt any other team gives him a contract once he's amnestied.

Kirilenko is a 31 percent 3-point shooter; Vesely has never taken a three point shot. Is he going to suddenly teach himself to shoot long range jumpers one summer? Isn't that something you enter the league with?

I've seen him take one, it was about a 70ft shot as the quarter was ending. Ironically, it damn near went in.

I could add to that list.

Klay Thompson would have looked nice on the wing. Faried who I loved we coulda had at 18 as well. Those 2 guys could have changed this team dramatically.

I'm huge Vesely fan because he understands how to play and gives effort especially defensively. But he is already what 21-22 he will never be a legit offensive threat thats a pipedream by alot of us the guy can barely shoot FT's.
