So in conclusion, Ernie has never drafted a player whose become a contributor for this franchise beyond their rookie deal after the third overall pick.  That's actually incredible.

Here's hoping Sato and Brown break the streak.

This is not normal.

It's almost inconceivably bad.  Ernie has been in charge for 16 drafts with the Wizards.  In three of them we had top three picks and those players went on to sign max contracts.  If you gave any one of us 13 drafts to pick a player who could stick around past his rookie his rookie deal, I guarantee you that all of us would get at least one.

Ernie's draft record is horrific.  He can't pick players who become long term pieces outside of a top three pick.  This means he can't develop players who aren't blue chippers that would succeed anywhere.  he can't keep any draft pick in hand without the blunt instrument of the rookie max extension.  This means he is NEVER getting bargains with any of his moves.  One of the worst GMs in any sport period.  And that's without even really considering the utterly disgraceful and ****ed up organizational culture he's created here for the past 16 years.

Means that he's not good and he's not even lucky.

Woj said we were one of Ariza's preferred destinations in FA last summer but that he had to pick Phoenix because their offer was so much higher.  Now he's got his money and ended up on a team he wanted to go to.

It seems crazy to me that he wanted to be here, but I guess he and Wall must be really close friends.

In a real way, the Ariza-ish moves the Wizards have made over the past seven years have prevented Washington from building a better team and forced them into this short-sighted deals just to stay afloat. It’s a terrible cycle of false hope. You think trading for Ariza gets you to the next level, and in the end it prevents you from ever building upon real growth. You’re building a hill by digging the earth out from under your own feet.
