PokerPacker
doesnt blu ray only apply to DVDs Blu Ray is a format separate from DVDs. I believe the PS3 is also capable of up-converting DVDs, but that's different from Blu Ray disks.

frostyj
XBOX 360 Finally Getting Blu-ray After months of rumors and denials, the XBOX 360 with a Blu-ray disc drive is due to be manufactured soon and shipped in Q3 of 2008. Pegatron Technology, an OEM subsidiary of Asustek Computer, is reported to have received the winning order from Microsoft for a Blu-ray equipped XBOX 360. Earlier reports cited Lite-On as the company with the privilege of building the new console for Microsoft. Lite-On is also currently one of the suppliers of the internal DVD drive fro the XBOX 360. Old Dominion Monarch 06
Sports... well ... I'll recommend NCAA basketball, NBA 2k9, Madden, NCAA football, Tiger Woods FPS.. rainbow six vegas 1 and 2, call of duty 4 modern warfare, call of duty world at war Those should keep you busy for a bit but do your research because a lot of these sports games have their next installment coming out relatively soon, so go used so you're not throwing money down the drain

Old Dominion Monarch 06
I've heard that's a good game, too. I probably should have mentioned that if you're into hockey, I've never played it though. oh snap, also grand theft auto 4. I'm assuming that is on ps3, has to be. Great game. Yeah, well, unfortunately those haven't been confirmed officially by Microsoft. And considering that article is 1 year old and there still hasn't been any official production for consumers, I won't hold my breath. Another factor though for Blu-ray playback is that the Xbox 360 (at least the older versions) are very noisy. I used to own an HD DVD add-on and sold that to get a quieter standalone. It became distracting during movie playback if you have your console near your seating area.
EnFoRcEr_uPu
Sports and first person shooters id like it to have good online play If you like FPS games and online play, COD 4 AND 5 are hands down the best available. COD 6 is coming out in November and looks amazing. I don't think you'll find a single person on XBOX 360 or PS3 that wouldn't agree COD is by far the best online gaming FPS for any console right now. And I would know, I put in about 200 hours of online play between the 2, LOL.

SkinsMaster88
Mine is only loud during games, not movie playback. For DVDs it isn't a problem, but for HD disc playback, I think the 360 used a lot of processing power. I remember reading that playing HD DVDs required the most power of anything up to the most graphics intensive scenes in Gears of War back when it was released in late 2006. BTW, if you want to check out recent game reviews, look at metacritic.com. Below are a few highly-rated sports and FPS games (I don't have 1st-hand experience with them, except Madden 09 for the 360, which I enjoyed). Stew
Im a big Xbox fan. Ive had a Live account since jump street. Xbox has a great selection of Xbox exclusives.... with that said, the PS3 is EASILY worth the money. Its a gaming console, Blu-Ray player, and Internet browser for the price of a Blu-Ray disc player. Its online gaming service is free. Xbox live is 60 bucks a year. Anyone stating that Xbox has better FPS needs to research the game "Mag". It is going to be run on dedicated servers, and be able to run something like 130 players to a team. You get loaded into an 8 man team that is part of a 24 person platoon (im probably getting the terminolgy wrong) that is part of a 65 person battalion... or whatever. The leader of your group can talk to the leader of the other groups, who can all talk to the leader of the platoon, who can talk to the leader of the battalion, or however it goes. PS3 is awesome, and I want one sooooooooo badly, but im not willing to trade in my Xbox 360 to get it. I plan on having one and then when my newest xbox dies (ive had three now) I will just never re-up until a new console comes out.
Corcaigh
As the Bluray advantage doesn't seem like an important issue for you but you mentioned online ... do you have friends with consoles you want to play with? If so, what are they on. Everybody my son knows plays almost entirely on the 360 and Xbox live, with a little PC gaming. There is no collective interest in PS3 online gaming among his peers, even among those that have the choice. We've had the PS3 for a while but limit play to a few titles (Resistance 2, Little Big Planet) and use it mainly for the Bluray.

CrypticVillain
I said this before but I guess I should repeat it again. X-Box 360 = Excellent Video Game System Playstation 3 = Excellent Media System You can't go wrong with neither. But since you have 10 friends with a PS3, I think you should get that. And your first two games should be Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and NHL 09. Don;t by World At War unless you really want it, because Modern Warfare 2 is coming out in November and you might want to get that instead.
