Redskins4ever
If Cartwright were given the same opportunities Betts got, he would be better. That's what I'm saying.
Special K
I, for one, hope we manage to keep Rock...I love the energy he brings to the team. He has the Redskins spirit and is an asset to the team. While there may be cheaper guys we could get, are they going to have his spirit? Keeping my fingers crossed for Rock right now! jnhay
Cartwright is clearly the better HB than Betts. Cartwright has done more for the Redskins than Betts. When Clinton went down with an injury in '06, Betts stepped up and ran for over a 1,000 yards and got a new contract. Cartwright. for all he's done, deserves a new contract also. He's the better returner, but he's not the better runningback.

I think it was when Gibbs came back, and people weren't sure where Rock would fit in. He was a full back at the time. He dropped weight and became a half back. Pretty cool to see a guy doing whatever it takes to be a part of the team - and be sucessful at it.
TheItalianStallion
I think Rock is as good, if not better than, Betts. I like both of them, but Betts' 2006 performance is what any decent NFL RB would've done behind that 2006 Oline we had. I think Cartwright would've put up similar numbers had he been the one filling in for CP.

Thirtyfive2seven
I love Rock but I don't think the skins are going to keep him and that sucks. I hope he gets a nice payday from someone if he doesn't stay here because he deserves it. I remember watching his NFL thing before the Super Bowl and his was touching (talked about how he plays for his mother. How the Redskins gave him a chance when no one else did...) Furthermore, I hope he doesn't trash the skins when/if he's gone. Great video btw, I really enjoyed it. Rock's best game was 05 vs the Rams. RedskinWarship
11 touches, 3 tds, 1 blocked punt? oh yeah, he's worth 2 mil. seriously. sorry though, roy jones jr. is a **** rapper.
flexxskins
Is it possible for him to get faster? If he had some breakaway speed he could be a stud. Gotta love Rock no one trys harder. Awsome Video.I agree with this quote. We have some great blockers, wedge busters or whatever the heck you call them and Rock finds the holes good enough. But there were a lot of times IMO that if he just had a little bit more of an extra burst of speed, he could have taken at least a couple to the house. BTW, where has Blondie been lately? Is she on sabbatical or something? Maybe she just does'nt do the offseason here anymore.
moparmann
Roc is a great asset to the skins. He said at the end of the season that he wanted to stay. Hope we get to keep him.
CM916
Rock can get it done given the chance, in that 2005 Rams game in the video, he came in after Portis had already got 100 yards and added 100 of his own. We used to let all three of our backs play because all three had 100 yard games under their belts. I think it was a desire to get our money's worth on Betts and Rock's shift to KR that kept him on the bench last season. In 2005, I beleive we alternated Betts and Cartwright as the #2, it kept everyone fresh. I also remember his KR touchdown in Dallas, all of Redskins nation collectively asked, "what the hell is Rock doing back there?" and five seconds later we understood.

sens11
It is a good video. It's too bad that there are only a couple of "recent" clips of Rock. Most of the clips from this video are from the 2005 season. Which makes you quesion two things: 1. Is that cause we didn't use him enough? 2. Is he not the guy he was in 2005? Take a look at these stats and decide. http://www.nfl.com/players/roderickcartwright/careerstats?id=CAR808221 His primary role switched to just a KR in 2006. The stats clearly indicate this. While I think that Rock is a "true skin", I got a feeling that we lose him to a big contract or one we can't afford. With a team in some "cap trouble" (still 6 million over) and a team that has some holes to fill, I'm not so sure that Rock is a Skins next season. I hope I'm wrong! Larry
In Spurrier's second season, Rock was used as a short yardage specialist. That year he was: 5 of 5 on 4th and short. 11 of 13 on 3rd and short. (2 yards or less). 1 of 3 on "x and goal" (any yardage). I think it was next season, he was told that the team didn't need him in that role any more, and told to lose 20 lbs. He did it, and really hasn't been used as a RB since. (Since Spurrier left, he's been 3 for 3 on 3rd and short.) Me, I think that if he can still function in short yardage (and I don't see any reason to assume he can't), then I'd like to see him in that role. ----- Maybe Blondie can tell us, but I really don't think Rock's after money. (Although NFL careers don't last long. His next signing bonus may well be his last, and a "mere" million dollars, when it has to last the rest of your life, can make a big difference in your quality of life.) I get the impression that what he wants is carries. And I think he's got a case that maybe he can deliver for somebody. That if we don't think he's our #2 RB, maybe somebody else does. roulette
Rock is probably the best 3rd string back in the league. For a lot of teams he would be 2nd. His special teams contributions alone make him worth keeping around if possible. I want him back there returning kicks and playing his heart out. Remember the hustle that allowed him to grab Thrash's punt return fumble? That's good stuff. I want him taking the slack up at running back. I want the safety net at RB he provides. I really do. But let's not get carried away. 2 million? That's a lot of dough for 3rd string. We're clearly not ditching Betts or Portis. Both have a lot more money tied up in them. And lets examine that rams game. They were something like the 30th ranked run defense. The holes were the size of trucks. Clinton had bashed on them in the first half and Rock got more carries in the 2nd. I hope he's back here next year. But I'm not hopeful. The skins can't afford to pay him what he wants. And there are plenty of teams out there who can. Our only hope is that they don't notice the heart that he brings to the game.
C.Cooley47
In my opinion he's the key person for us to resign out of all of our players testing the market. Collins did great but Campbell is our guy. Don't get me wrong though i'd love to keep Collins but he isn't a key player to resign.
sempre_victrix
When I first read this thread title, I was thinking, "yeah, right." But thinking back, Rock might be a better choice to back up CP, trade LB, and pick up a returner in the draft, or let Thrash return kicks, with Rock as his backup. With our cap issues, this team needs to get creative for a couple of years. I'd like to see the team keep Rock if possible.
