Touchdown Redskins
I woke up thinking this morning, "What if Cowher really is the next coach of the Redskins?" He would be replacing an icon. Joe Gibbs, for better or for worse, is synonymous with the Skins, just as Cowher is synonymous with the Steelers. Could we love someone who is replacing an icon after the most trying year in Redskins history? Could you love someone whose name will never be associated with our team? Even if he wins a Superbowl, he'll be considered a "gun for higher" like Parcells. If he brought about another decade of glory years, could you bring yourself to put him on the same pedestal as Gibbs? I don't know if I could. ttr77
Ask a Steeler fan how they felt having Cowher replace a man in who had won 4 Super Bowls in Pittsburgh. Noll was arguably every bit as big there as Gibbs was here.
pez
Well... from a football standpoint, or as a man? He doesn't seem to be the warm and lovable guy that Joe is...
StillUnknown
people act as if Cowher hasn't been successful in the league. for the record, i prefer Gregg Williams for continuity purposes, but Cowher has a much better track record as a head coach, and is more than capable of producing a winner here in washington. Tastes Like Chicken
I could grow to love any future head coach of the Skins, but no one can ever replace Joe Gibbs. He has a special place in my burgundy and gold heart.
terpskins10
I don't like the fact that if we hire Cowher, then guys like Carter, Griffin, and probably Rocky automatically become phased out because they don't fit the scheme.
Veretax
If he wins the next head coach will be loved. If he loses or underachieves like Norval then you can bet he won't be liked that much.
SkinSabbath
Of course we can love him... IF We play BETTER under him than under Gibbs

Noll was arguably every bit as big there as Gibbs was here. Yes, but Cowher hadn't been a coach elsewhere. The Steelers was his first head coaching stint. Also, he wasn't synonymous with another team when he replaced Knoll.
Lombardi's_kid_brother
I didn't "love" Gibbs - except maybe back when I was 11. I'm almost certainly not going to love the next coach.
JonDepompa
Cowher has already proven he can step right in after a living legend and and have success. He did replace Chuck Knoll, correct?
MintHillSkinsFan
My love can definitely be bought with a consistent contender and a couple of Lombardi Trophies.

WVUforREDSKINS
I don't know. He is a Steeler at heart. I would welcome whoever brought wins but I don't think I could ever think of him as a Redskin. I want GW to get the job!

I want GW to get the job! You don't believe that GW is a Redskin at heart, do you? The only guy who might possibly fit that qualification is Grimm, or some other former Redskin player, but I can't think of anyone else qualified. gortiz
hopefully we dont' have to worry about loving him ... Report: 'No chance' Cowher returns (I know its rotoworld, but they are dropping Adam Schefter's name) http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/playerbreakingnews.asp?sport=NFL&id=687&line=111199&spln=

voicekiller
I liked Cowher when he was in Pittsburgh, it won't be hard to like him here...and i think if he does get the job a lot of the people saying they hate him now will change their mind...he is a guy who is easy to like
MikeB
No coach is going to have the ties to DC that Gibbs does, so we all just need to get over that. If Cohwer comes here and takes us to the playoffs most years, I will have no problem liking him. If he wins one... he is forever in my fondest of memories.
