You seriously think we can judge Betts off his like 30 carries this year? He was a beast last year and convinced many he could be a starting RB in the NFL. Portis is starting to convince people he's completely lost it and is not a capable back at all anymore. It's time to turn it over to Betts and see if he can produce in this offense which Portis has failed to do.[/quote']

And I dont want people to get me wrong adn think I hate Betts, because I dont, its just that I dont understand why you think Portis should be benched for Betts, when he has proven throughout the years including this one, that he is the better back

Oh...I don't think I would go that far at this point. Betts played well today...Portis didn't have the type of game he's capable of that's for sure...but take his starter position away? I don't think so. And if you think Portis fumbles...what about Betts? We're lucky he didn't cough it up today along w/everyone else that did. I like that you want to start conversation and debate topics after a loss....everyone wants to make such monumental changes after every loss. You can't get consistency this way.

How many ppl here think that NY isn't going to start Eli next week? <*crickets*>. I thought so.

Betts had a good game today...Portis not as good as he should have...but pull Portis for Betts at this point doesn't make sense to me.

Since 2005 Betts fumbles once every 39 carries. Portis once every 112.

Betts is a fumble machine relatively.

I dont think we should bench Portis by any means....but get Ladell some more carries. I though at the start of the year Gibbs said it would be 15 carries a piece. It hasnt seemed like Ladell has been getting much at all.

WOW! i agree that portis dances too much but there has not been good holes to run through. betts fumbles more often than portis. i'm more concerned on why santana moss is still starting.

I wouldn't disagree that Betts had the better game but I would not make him the starter at all. Next week (or whenever) Portis has a better game someone else is going to start a thread commenting on how Portis is a HOFer and Betts should be working at Best Buy. Portis is a better pass blocker, he has better speed and vision. Betts is a quality back and should be getting more carries. Wearing Portis down at the beginning of the game and sticking Betts in later is not the answer. They should be splitting the carries close to 70/30 to keep Portis fresh.

At the risk of being called a bandwagon Portis fan' date=' I think Portis is going downhill instead of upping his play like he should at this point in the season. Today he showed he can't protect the football in two instances, couldn't just run the plays called and try and get to the outside but instead dance around in fear, and simply didn't have anything in the tank really, no explosion, no cutting, no nothing.

Ladell Betts had it. I think, since he has to be so fresh still, and with him showing that he clearly still has the explosiveness and the downhill running style that made him so effective last year, I think we need to give him the majority of carries. I still see explosiveness in him and fresh legs. Portis just doesn't look like anything close to who we traded for.

I say we put Betts in from the start and give him at least 20 carries and 5 receptions and use Portis as the blocking back and goal line back. I also liked the short-yardage formation where we saw Portis line up as FB.

I just think if we want to win out the rest of the year Betts gives us the best chance to do so.

Portis was overrated when he left Denver and still is. To some he can do no wrong. If he shoots his mother they would say she had it coming. This may also be the result of being unprofessional in not wanting to play a preseason game and thinking he's the only player who shouldn't practice earlier in the season.

Two weeks ago, everyone was upset that Portis wasn't #1 in the All-pro fan voting, since he was the #1 rusher in the NFC. This week, everyone wants him benched.

It's pointless to put the offensive blame on one person, player or coach. There are very few players on offense that I expect to be around in three years. The line is old, overpaid and injury prone. Portis is still young, but has had a lot of carries and runs in a style that invites injury. He also pulls down a huge paycheck. Moss is overpaid and often injured. ARE and Cooley are fan favorites, but I still question whether ARE is a legit #2. Campbell must improve in a number of areas.

For most of the season ARE has been the #1 he has made some big catches. Moss on the other hand has been on a downhill slide since 05 they need to leave his ass on the bench til he recovers from his severe case of Carlositis

His YPC as a starter getting fed carries is now like 3.8ish which is a joke. I thought it would just take him 'till about midseason to get into real form but aside from two games he's failed us miserably.

Betts had like 6 carries. If he hardly gets used, he's gonna be fresh in the 3rd quarter when most people on the field are tired.

thats just your opinion. Because you believe your opinion is better doesnt mean that someone else does not have any football knowledge.

Betts did some GREAT things when he filled in for Portis. Portis is making 5x what Betts is making, and what has he shown other then the Jets game.

Portis is one of the most OVERRATED RB's in the game. I could say if you dont believe that, you have no football knowledge.

i dont understand how people react so ridiculously after losses. after we win a game theres no sound from these people but they pounce on losses.

I give props to the person who started this thread b/c i've wanted to for some time but knew comments like ^ would come in force and nobody would take me seriously.

Dont get me wrong...I like Portis and I feel he is a better back....just not in our system. I'm probably on of the few who think Betts should get the nod in '08 because I feel he is a better back in our system and has good vision dowonfield. Portis, though I love him for it, is very physical. The problem is he is TOO SMALL to be a physical power back. Betts makes people miss...he cuts and side steps.....Portis tries to run through. He usually ends up paying for it.

I wanna would like to see Betts more involved period. He deserves after last year.
