I was looking at Borgata.. and it is also at the least twice as much as anywhere else.

The Borgata is twice as nice as any other place down there.

THe pecking order is like this.

Borgata

Tropicana

Everywhere else.

I've stayed in Ceasars Palace, which isn't bad.

If all you care about is gambling, then it really doens't matter where you stay, if you really think about it.....

Thanks. I was looking and saw 2 prices for Topicana. one was standard price and other was Havana Tower. Any idea what the standard price is and How much better the Havanah Tower is. To put in perspective the Borgata is about twice as much as the Havana Tower and 4 times the price of standard Tropicana room.

Another option is Absecon. It is about a ten to fifteen minute drive from the AC Boardwalk and you can get a nice room for about 40 dollars a night. That's what I do when I want to be there for more than a day. Crash there, choose my casino, spend five bucks to park there and enjoy the day.

If you don't want to spend your entire time in a ridiculously over-priced casino, don't bother staying at the Borg. Take a taxi there one night and get your fill of paying way too much. Besides, to me at least, one casino gets boring. I like the Tropicana personally. The poker room sucks though, so I usually walk down the strip to better rooms.

Torresa, the responses about the Borgata being the nicest place in town are correct. However, one of the problems with Borgata is that its in the Marina area, which is a short drive from the Boardwalk area. The Marina area has 3 casinos: Borgata, Harrah's, and Trump Marina. I went to Harrah's for a few hours the day after the Philly game in September and was very surprised at how nicely they'd spiffed the place up since I had last visited. Harrah's also has a beautiful new indoor pool area.....not sure how much use you'd get in December, but if you chose to stay there, you'd at least be a very short drive from Borgata (you may be able to walk from Borgata to Harrah's too, but it might be a little long).

The casinos on the Boardwalk are basically grouped into 2 on the south part (Hilton and Trop), center (Trump Plaza/Caesars/Bally/Claridge), and north (Resorts/Taj/Showboat). Trop's shopping area is so-so but they do have some nice restaurants. Regarding the Havana Tower.....it opened several years ago and the rooms are probably bigger and have amenities like separate tub and shower, probably nicer TV, than the older, standard rooms. Caesars has a pier of shops and restaurants connected to it. There is also an area a couple blocks away from the center casino area that has a good selection of outlet stores, if you're into that sort of thing. If you decide to stay on the Boardwalk, probably shouldn't venture too far off it at night.....AC is still somewhat seedy, aside from the Boardwalk.

The Borgata coming into town has led to a lot of the casinos stepping up their game, at least appearance-wise. AC cannot touch Vegas (and never will), but it is improving.

Yea Borgotta is nice but there really isnt anything around it besides a few bad neighborhoods, and a crappy casino (cant even remember the name of it heh)

When we goto AC, we stay at the Tropicana, last year they finished a mall

there so there are alot of food and shoppin options now, and its close to like 5 other casinos.

Whatever you do do NOT stay at the Pink Flamingo, or was that The Flamingo, next to the Trop! lol horrible hotel

I have been to AC the last two weekends to play poker. The Borgata is the only casino to go to. By all means, stay at another place for a cheaper room but the Borgata is the best casino in AC. They have the largest poker room (86 tables) and a bunch of great restaurants, and everything looks amazing.

The Borgata is the only place worth going to. Call them up and ask if they can comp you a room. Tell them you are going there for some hardcore table time and they will be more likely to set you up with a comp'd room. Personally, I've never paid for a room there. I always get comps.

Great thread...

When I graduate in December, my mom is taking me, my girlfriend and my brother to Atlantic City for a night. We've already booked a night at Trump Plaza. It was going to be Tropicana, but from the map I saw, Trump plaza is part of a larger cluster of casinos right there.

My question(if you don't mind me hi-jacking)...

I'm also being treated to a good meal. I'm thinkin' of finding the best Buffet. Who has one? Any other suggestions for good food (~$30 a person is about the max.)? Thanks

The Virginia City Buffet in the Wild Wild West Casino kicks major ass, for buffets, we go there every time we are in AC, think its about $20-$25 per person, i suffer from CRS sometimes :D

??? Define hardcore table time. And what if you get a comped room and do zero gambling?

Where to stay or where to play, that is the question.

You can stay almost anywhere, but how much time are you going to spend in your room ? Personally, I spend about 5-6 hours in the room when on vacation. The rest of my time is spent going all out.

I look for the best deal on a room at a nice hotel, and go from place to place (if needed) for my gambling, dining, and entertainment.

It doesn't matter as long as you create the illusion that you are going to be a big spender. Tell them you are in town for one of their shows, have reservations at Bobby Flays or Olde Homestead and plan on enjoying their Poker Room to the fullest.

There is no finer meal in AC than Olde Homestead. It's not a buffet but you'll be hard pressed to find a better steak in your lifetime.

Just to provide another opinion here. The last time I was in AC, it was at the Borgata for my bachelor party. We got one of the big suites and crammed eleven of us in there (only two of us actually checked in.) That made the experience relatively cheap.

As for poker, Borgata does have the largest room, but for my two cents, the best place to play is either at the Sands (if it still exists) or at Bally's. The Sands is one of the crappier joints, but the poker room is full of people who don't know what they're doing. If you've read a few poker books, understand odds, or have put in any serious time online, you should be able to make money at the Sands.

If making money isn't high on your list, check out Bally's as an alternative to the Borgata or the Taj. The poker room is smaller, but the games are good, and because it's kind of tucked away, you don't usually have to wait for a spot at a table. The Taj and Borgata often have long wait times, especially if you're trying to play at the lower limits. At Bally's, you can get into games as low as $2-$4 limit within ten minutes.

If you're going to do anything besides poker, don't skimp on the roulette wheel. I know the odds are longer against you, but for some reason, playing that game is a thrill, I'm not sure why.

I've started studying and memorizing Blackjack odds now, I'm going to give that a serious whirl on my next trip up, rather than in the past where I've barely played it. I'm also trying to learn how craps works, it looks fun but it's hard for me to follow.
