See Why Vinny Cerrato Hates the Draft

I think its pretty clear that the reason why the skins are behind those other teams is the sheer lack of packs they have each year. You look at those drafts and we have made at least one or two good picks every draft, its the same exact thing with the ravens, eagles, and patriots. However the reason why they draft better is because they have tons more picks than we do. If you look at those ravens draft maybe 2 or 3 years they find someone in the late rounds but some of those years are busts from round 1 to 7. If the redskins had more picks than yea we could find those people since the probability increases but when you have 4 picks a year there is a good chance that you won't find good people in teh draft.

Actually it was due to the Sean Gilbert trade that netted us 2 1st rounds picks by fleecing Carolina 99's 1st round and 2000's picks which was used along with the saints picks to move up to the 2nd and 3rd spots. Sorry but when is fact considered flawed logic

Isn't it crazy that after all those free picks we still sucked. Dallas turned this into 3 Super Bowls after trading Walker and having a pile of high draft picks.

Also, they'd be able to just pick a backup QB every once in a while as well. We end up with 3-4 picks and have to fill OL/DL with the late picks instead of drafting a possible future steal at QB like we did 13 years ago with Frerotte, the Eagles did recently with Feeley then got a 2nd rounder for him and have him back already, the Pats got Brady this way, the Falcons got Schaub in the 3rd and just traded him for multiple 1st day picks.

This is what I mean by the Redskins needing to emphasize drafting. Drafting by bulk, you minimize the risk and not only that, these young guys are cheaper and will work harder because they haven't gotten their NFL payday yet.

The Ravens list is just staggering, 3 pro bowlers almost every single year drafted except for 1 or 2. DAMN.

I didn't even look at the other teams because it's kinda depressing....

WOW, Skinseva, That list of other teams draft picks make me soo salty. Now i know why everyone on these boards says "the draft is soo uncertain" because we simply suck at it, we also suck at signing the right players so i guess they go hand in hand. Great work.

PS. Whoever said Carlos Rogers is a sucess, this is not true. He is well behind where Champ and Smoot were entering year 3. Another thing Vinny, in a chat here at ES, said rogers was their highest rated defensive player, not by position, overall. Merriman was in that draft class and on the table when the skins picked. How was he not rated higher, im not talking need, just plain rating?

Well the amazing thing is the Eagles, Pats, and Ravens really didn't trade any of there picks. They built depth by draft, and NOT Over Rated FA. This way they save on cap room and have money when they need it. Most of the players listed are not playing or on another team. They flush out the players they don't need and keep them young and fresh, not old and always hurt!

The Pats GM is the best on finding talent, I really think the Redskins needs a GM that knows whats going on. Not Vinny as GM he is a Joke!

It's definitely crazy considering of you look back and see how many players are no longer with on the team. I'm surprised the media never jumped on it

The difference with Gibbs is he is already on year 4 of a 5 year plan. No time for building anything. I can't think of an excuse for Vinny.

The really interesting thing to me is the change in fan sentiment. That is, I've posted Vinny's draft history here at least twice over the past couple of years and been rebuked for my criticism of him *cough* Art *cough, cough* Bubba *cough*. However it now appears that many are peering over the B & G glasses to see the truth about my cousin.

That Cerrato could say the following...

He shows you Carlos Rogers, whom the team took with its ninth pick in the April draft, was No. 1 on the Redskins' defensive draft wish list. Cerrato said he wrote 300 "Redskin reports" that were used to form the team's final offensive, defensive and overall rankings for the draft. "Look, I've got binders in here, calendars," he said, pointing to his files.

...while S. Merriman and D. Ware were in the same draft defies all logic known to man. It looks even stupider given that Rogers didn't play like a first round pick last season and might end up being a bust.

I'm just wondering if the line about him not believing in drafting defensive linemen is really true. If so, that would completely confirm my opinion of him as another "Corky".

I am not going to fault the Skins for drafting Rogers... CB was a definite position of need and Rogers was an excellent prospect coming out of college. I lobbied for him and I believe that he will develop into an excellent CB. For whatever reason he like other CBs drafted high (Quentin Jammer, Terrance Newsome) take a few seasons to fully transition to the NFL.

I expect big things out of CR this upcoming season.

What I cannot look past is our uncanny ability to uneccesarilly throw away draft picks and the passing up of players who could help our team at positions of dire need in the latter rounds (Chris Canty) for picks that are dubious at best.

I've said before and I'll say it again, you can't neglect your D-line for 10 straight drafts. Where is the talent and depth? Probably on the teams who have the players that we should have selected, assuming A) anyone on planet Earth except Vinny-Danny was rating them and B) we hadn't mis-used/traded/given away/auctioned on e-Bay, the draft picks to begin with.

Since 2000, we haven't drafted one DE or DT HIGHER than the 6th round!!!!

As a comparison, the Eagles have drafted 5 D lineman in the last two years...most of which were taken in the first 4 rounds...any questions????

The more I look at these picks and pay attention to the tendencies, the more i worry about this team.
