SIGNED: MLB London Fletcher-Baker (Incl. Press Conf.)

TK

Recommended Posts

Wow... We signed a 32 year old linebacker to replace our 30 year old linebacker. What a great move. The Skins are set at MLB for a good season and a half now!

Yippee!

Fletcher is currently 31 replacing an undersized 30 year old.

Really? Can ya name a few stud 34 year olds for me? Or even one whose best years are ahead of him?

Ray Lewis is the same age as Fletcher, Zach Thomas 34, and there was another guy that played here into his 30's at MLB named Neal Olkewicz.

By the way...none of them had the durability that Fletcher does.

Had to laugh at this title on theredzone.org:

Redskins continue to spend, ink Fletcher to a 5-year deal

Ironic since we're being VASTLY outspent by several teams, and having a relatively quiet offseason so far.

Some good stuff here. If this guy doesn't produce we have a problem.

Those crazy Redskins keep SPENDING AND SPENDING! Today, as they decided not to re-sign guard Derrick Dockery for 49 million over 7 years, the Redskins dished out a modest 25 million for 5 years to a player about 50,000,000,000 times more proven than Dockery at his respective position.

They then took the rest of their cap money and saved it. Rumor has it they will splurge more tomorrow, signing cheap defensive backs Fred Smoot and Travis Fisher! Leonard Davis is supposed to be talking with them, but everyone knows they won't sign him.

WHAT A BUNCH OF CRAZIES! THEY JUST KEEP SPENDING AND SPENDING.

1 player, 25 million

Bills: 1 player, 49 million

Browns: 1 player, 49.5 million

What the hell?

Although I wasn't really for bringing in Fletcher...This is a great move and will improve our D immensely as well as give us Quality depth at LB by pushing Marshall or Rocky to the bench...It will also improve our special teams as Marshall will more than likely be on teams now...

Great signing, plus we didn't break the bank!

Bills and Brown got good young players where football people know teams are made: in the trenches. The skins got an undersized, aging, declining in production MLB who couldnt stop the run in STL and couldn't stop the run in BUF, but he did play for G williams during those great Bill years... oops they were not so great and Williams got fired as head coach. Buffalo fans will tell you Fletcher makes a lot of tackles, but they are all 5-7 yards downfield. That is an improvement over Marshal who cannot tackle or cover, but it does not deserve 5 mil a season plus 10 mil signing bonus.

Factor in that signing bonus of 10 mil that Clev and Buff did not dole out, and factor in multiple teams were interested in those 2 OG's and no one but supposedly Detroit was interested in Fletcher (NFL INSIDER only had the Skins listed as interested teams). But we just had to go all in on day 1 of FA. YAHOO!

Congrats to the Skins for signing London. I see a number of Bills games living here in Ontario, and the guy can still play. The biggest mistake the Rams made after the 2001/2002 Superbowl was letting him walk. He'll be a real solid player for you.

Travis Fisher, on the other hand, hasn't played well since 2003. Injuries and a somewhat inexplicable decline in performance have rendered him practically useless. When he got injured this year, the Rams defence was noticably improved by the insertion of raw rookie Tye Hill.

Just a Rams fan opinion.

It's really not even an issue. The need is glaring. There is no MLB to be had in the draft for us. With the 6th pick there is absolutely no one worth it, and after that we sit til the fifth. In free agency there is not another MLB available who is better.

they gave him a modest contract and got a guy who's averaged 144 tackles over the last five straight years.

In fact, over the last seven years, he leads the NFL in tackles.

No one is under the illusion he is a long term solution, but considering the need and the paucity of adequate players to choose from, it's a good signing that gives us a good player who is more than capable of giving two years or so for us to find and groom a younger man.

Big picture.

He basically said it all right there. The "age" thing isn't an issue right now considering his production and the probability that we'll get an MLB in the future. Lets welcome Fletcher with open arms.

Best years in front of him? Don't they just have to be very good years to prove you wrong? The following players are very good and 34 or older.

...

But thats just to name a few...

People don't suddenly hit a bump at age 33 and start degenerating or playing badly.

Ouch, thats going to leave a mark.

Welcome London! Although I don't think you'e worth the contract you received as you probably have about two good years left, I hope you work out in DC.

Ed Hartwell just became available.... werr werr werrrrr.. if only our FO was a bit more patient.

The bes part of this signing is that it not only upgrades the middle linebacker spot but it upgrades the left linebacker spot because Marshall is an EXCELLENT outside linebacker and should neve have been moved.

Solid linebacking core and gives Rocky more time to learn.

I think its an excellent signing because it puts us in a great position no matter what player we draft in the first round. I think they did the wise thing not breaking the bank on dock and clements. And the upgrade at MLB means if we end up picking a DT or DE, we will have a better front 7 next year hands down.
