Hey man, don't be a dick.

MSF is a huge fan, if you can't figure that out.....

i'm not trying to be a dick it just sounded like he doesnt like people to get loud during a game. If i'm wrong i apologize to you and MSF. im just all for cheering during games. if i came off as a dick my bad. Im sure i mistook that though i just sorta skimmed it and it looked like he said he wanted people to be quiet during the games.

I'm not opposed to standing at the appropriate points - I almost got into a fight with a Dallas fan last year who told me to sit down. I'll let you imagine my reply :)

But standing up constantly just isn't necessary.

Sorry, but I scream my *** off in the 400 level when I'm at games (and I bang on the seats in front of me (something I can't do when I'm standing so I'm actually making more noise while seated).

I think at crucial moments, its no biggie if you want to get up and get rowdy. I certainly do. But like I said, if a big guy stands in front of my kid the whole game so he can't possibly see, I am going to ask him to sit down or move.

I understand that completely, Tarhog. I don't necessarily see the need to stand up through an entire game either. My beef is with the church mice who sit on their hands the whole game, but then when we're on defense and along comes a critical third down in the third quarter, the place is going nuts and our team needs us, and they want you to sit down and be quiet as if we're in a library or something. That's my gripe. Some fans don't seem to have a feel for the game--it's like they can't identify a crucial third down and thus can't understand why some people are getting so riled up.

I don't have a problem with the vocalization. I yell and scream at sporting events when it is appropriate. I've even been known to get up out of my seat when the moment calls for it. However, I'm back with my butt on the seat before play resumes.

What I will not do, and will not accept is standing for extended periods of time and blocking the view of other people sitting in their seats like reasonable, respectable adults. That is rude, unnecessary, and totally inappropriate so far as I am concerned; and it always will be in my mind.

Oh... well that is my mistake. sorry. i thought you were stating that you hate people cheering. I completely didnt understand that. agin sorry for mistaken that. But you should venture to attend a game at FedEd it isnt that bad just full of diehard fans.

Standing up the whole game is bad. Standing up during key points however is just how it works in a stadium. Always has. People stand and scream during key points of games in soccer, football, baseball, hockey, and basketball everywhere from FedEx field to some Eastern European soccer match.

If you can't stand at all, I'm not trying to be a jerk, but you should try to get seats in the front of a section. I don't think expecting normal behavior from everywhere sports are played to be changed for you is unrealistic. Football isn't golf.

No problem. We all make mistakes. I don't want people to be quiet.... just to create an atmosphere in the stadium that is more adult, family friendly, and less like a drunken frat party.

Most of you know that I HATE the New England Patriots with a passion. I wouldn't shed a single tear if the entire team died in a plane crash on the way home from Miami tonight. The one positive thing I will say about the franchise is that the stadium in Foxboro is probably the most fan-friendly sporting arena I've ever been to. The team doesn't put up with garbage. Their security system records video of every single seat in the stadium at all times and they're quite liberal in "asking" people to leave when they misbehave. Oh, and if you're a season ticket holder and you get "asked" to leave, you may very well lose those season tickets... permanently. Gillette Stadium is one of the few professional sporting arenas I would encourage people to bring their children to.

The sad truth is, if even 1/2 the folks in the stands cheered loudly when it counted, it would be deafening. Standing wouldn't matter.

There are a lot of wine and cheesers at FedEx, and a lot of opposing fans. Sadly, the passion and energy on this board is far from typical of the average game attendee. Part of that is the transitional nature of the area, but a lot of it I blame Snyder and company for... the blatant commercialism thats creates an environment thats hardly conducive to creating rabid fans in the stands.

There are a couple reasons I haven't made the trip.... I live in Massachusetts and work a 7-3:30 Monday to Friday job. That means a trip to DC for a game would probably require flying into DC on a Friday night or Saturday morning and rushing out of the stadium to make a return flight to the Northeast if I didn't want to take Monday off. Additionally, the cost of flight, hotel, rental car, and tickets can't be cheap. Most of all, what's kept me away since I've been an adult is the fact that the team has stunk, and with my competitive fires I'm not sure that spending the time and money to travel to a game would be worth it if I walked out of the stadium in disgust at the team's play at the end of the First Quarter.

The best way would be to divide sections off for familys and others who want to stand and cheer and stuff.

I agree. i think this is probably the best possible situation for fans. Me personally I want to stand for the entire game. Whether we are on offense or defense just because I have a ridiculous amount of energy when I go to games. I hate the fact that people go to the stadium to watch the game non-chalantly. Might just be my age though.

I myself to tend to stand up on defense. Especially on third down. I rarely have any issue though. I generally get to know the people sitting around me and if someone behind me has a physical problem, or is older, or a kid I make concious effort to stay seated, but am still loud. Alot of times the people may be at their first game and are a little shy. I talk to them high five them and before you know it they are into it too.

If you just get to know the people around you and take them into consideration most games turn out great.

You would have enjoyed that season. I was a Senior in High School that year, in a town predominantly full of NY Giants fans. Oh, that year was wonderful. Just think about it, if Ricky Sanders had caught that pass in the endzone against the Cowboys and we hadn't rested everyone who deserved to be in a uniform in the second half of the final game of the season against the Beagles we would have had a Perfect season. That team really should have been undefeated. Their average game that year was better than a 16 point victory. They increased that number in the playoffs. So far as I'm concerned, that team IS one of the Top 10 NFL teams in history.

Yea i was only 3 but i got videos of me wearing redskins super bowl stuff that my dad had bought for me. Hopefully they will get a 4th and i'll be out there on the plane going to see them. my uncle is actually a cowboys fan too and im his sons god child and my parents is his other (uncle) son and we are trying to lead them in the right way in becoming Redskins fans instead of cowboys fans. They were 17 and 3 that season though werent we? and i was thinking about buying the history of the skins because im known in my school as the kid that wears his redskins jersey the friday before every game and the monday after and im in a hole right now because i wanna wear it but i've got classes with philly fans and i dont hear like listening to their crap. would you suggest wearing my jason campbell jersey? ( i also have an archuleta 1 that im devastated about because i bought it right after the draft and now he doesn't play)

admins, when we have a chat with snyder, make sure a question about this is asked.

Don't worry... whenever anyone types the word "Admins" or "mods" in a post... they are automatically forwarded an email to the ES staff group and the email is given a status of "high priority". Their computers lock up and they are unable to perform any function with the computers until that email is read and dealt with accordingly.

Ok, guess I'm showing my age here...

My family has had season tickets since the mid-80's. At RFK we had to stand the entire game because the lower rows' views were blocked, so those people stood, which made everyone behind them stand.

When FedEx opened it was great because the sight-lines were free and clear and we could actually sit in our seats for the game.

I'm what you might call a "veteran fan". I was there when they beat Dallas 26-3 to go to their first Super Bowl. I saw Kenny Houston tackle Walt Garrison at the goal line. I looked up to see yellow seat cushions filling the sky when we beat Atlanta. I watched Ricky Sanders break free on an out and go and Doug Williams deliver the perfect pass as we trounced Denver 42-10 in the Super Bowl. And I was in Tampa and Seattle last year, when we were perhaps one Carlos Rogers dropped interception from making it to the NFC Championship game.

I say this to present my qualifications as a Redskins fan. There are indeed times to stand. But those times aren't every third down when our defense is on the field. Especially this year.

I get the impression that you are one of those people who thinks the game is more about you, that if you stand and scream your lungs out and block everybody else's view and diminish their enjoyment of the game, that somehow you have the power to make the team win. Or maybe it's more about ego? Maybe you like being noticed as the guy who's standing, as in "look at me everybody, I'm a fan!".

I've been paying for season tickets for 20 years. I should be able to go to the game and sit in my seat and watch the game without some newby yahoo standing on 3rd down in the first quarter of a 0-0 game.

But when the game is on the line or it's a key situation, I'll be standing too. And 90,000 others will standing with me.

The rest of the time, down in front.

Great advice HOF, I agree. If you're just on your feet the whole game, acting like a jerk, screaming,, swearing - maybe people will just go get the usher, understandably so in many cases. I have 4 "regulars" in front of me, and the rest of the seats on both sides and behind me are "for sales" so I never know who/what I'm going to get. Talk to them a little before the game, high-five them - maybe they don't know what to expect or what their role as 12th man is. I don't stand all game, or every series, but definitely on the crucial 3rd downs. And I scream loudly when D is on the field.

Weirdest phenomena this game - there were so many damn Eagles fans yelling when we had the ball that some of the "one-game-a-year" folks would get caught up in the screaming and start yelling, too, "Goooooo Skins!!!!!" Shuddup!

Incidently, I don't equate being loud, screaming 'til I'm horse and standing on crucial plays (without checking height/physical well-being of those behind me) with being drunk and acting like a frat boy. I don't drink, well past college age and would belong to a sorority anyway. But I'm a fan dammit, and I'm gonna make some noise.

And while we're at it, stand up and sing HTTR when we score, ok? Or is that too a memory of the past? What was up with that?!

would you suggest wearing my jason campbell jersey? ( i also have an archuleta 1 that im devastated about because i bought it right after the draft and now he doesn't play)
Wear your Redskins gear on Monday with pride! :) :helmet:

That is ridiculous. Actually, I saw some of the people I tailgate with get kicked out cuase an older lady complained to the usher that they were too loud and stood up too much. Seriously, what is going on. I feel like if you want to sit down and not cheer and enjoy the game, then stay at home and let those that want to make a difference fill the stadium. Very disappointing.

I can guarantee they didn't get kicked out because they "were too loud and stood up too much." Anybody who believes that is a fool.
