When I get excited and pumped up even at home, I jump out of my chair, it's just instinct. Where did the term "jump for joy" come from? You can't express the same excitement sitting in a chair.

That's appropriate and fine. No one has a problem with that. I have a problem with the guy right in front of me who decides he's going to stand the whole game. When the D is on the field. When the O is on the field. During pregame. During TV timeouts. Literally. No one else around him is standing like this. Just him. I paid a hundred bucks to see the game, not his fat ass for four quarters.

When I leave a Skins game I am exhausted and can barely speak. I've only sat for the few minutes of halftime and have been yelling as loud as I possibly can whenever our D is out on the field. Do I get tired? Yes, but I feel it is my duty as a Skins fan in attendance to do as much as I possibly can to help my team get the W. And so while I feel bad for any children who cannot see over my 6'4" frame, I cannot betray my obligation to my team.

I can guarantee they didn't get kicked out because they "were too loud and stood up too much." Anybody who believes that is a fool.

No they are not. I don't pretend to know what went on in this particular situation, but during a Dallas game at FedEx a person I know was ejected for standing and being loud when the skins were on defense. No profanity involved. It does happen.

And in response to those who feel its only appropriate to stand on 3rd downs in the 4th quarter, what would you think if our team only got siked up to play in these situations? Every play counts and fans can have an impact on every play.

Ok, guess I'm showing my age here...

My family has had season tickets since the mid-80's. At RFK we had to stand the entire game because the lower rows' views were blocked, so those people stood, which made everyone behind them stand.

When FedEx opened it was great because the sight-lines were free and clear and we could actually sit in our seats for the game.

I'm what you might call a "veteran fan". I was there when they beat Dallas 26-3 to go to their first Super Bowl. I saw Kenny Houston tackle Walt Garrison at the goal line. I looked up to see yellow seat cushions filling the sky when we beat Atlanta. I watched Ricky Sanders break free on an out and go and Doug Williams deliver the perfect pass as we trounced Denver 42-10 in the Super Bowl. And I was in Tampa and Seattle last year, when we were perhaps one Carlos Rogers dropped interception from making it to the NFC Championship game.

I say this to present my qualifications as a Redskins fan. There are indeed times to stand. But those times aren't every third down when our defense is on the field. Especially this year.

I get the impression that you are one of those people who thinks the game is more about you, that if you stand and scream your lungs out and block everybody else's view and diminish their enjoyment of the game, that somehow you have the power to make the team win. Or maybe it's more about ego? Maybe you like being noticed as the guy who's standing, as in "look at me everybody, I'm a fan!".

I've been paying for season tickets for 20 years. I should be able to go to the game and sit in my seat and watch the game without some newby yahoo standing on 3rd down in the first quarter of a 0-0 game.

But when the game is on the line or it's a key situation, I'll be standing too. And 90,000 others will standing with me.

The rest of the time, down in front.

you being older then me and more privleged in that you can afford to go to all those games makes no diff to me.

I disagree with you I think ever 3rd down is a good time to sceam for your defense to stop them. Call it ego call it whatever the hell you want say I am ruining your game I could care less, I am there for my team and not you. Inconsiderate? maybe...but owell this is football I get up and get loud and there isnt a damn thing you people will ever do about it, its called 12th man and its called having spirit. I think a player would rather see a fan standing up screaming there loudest then sitting there lazy in there chair clapping.

call me whatever you want your no better then me fan wise. please dont hold your redskin history over my head like you have reason to tell me the way it is because you are older. You dont determine when people should stand and when they shouldnt, people pay to see and cheer a certain way.

Most of the people I see in the lower level telling people to sit are cranky old skins fans that would rather yell at the players and coaches when they get on the field then say cmon lets go. The other percentage of people are those that arent big football fans in general. So when I get the chance to sit in the lower level, I could care less what any of you people that want to tell me to sit on 3rd downs thinks or says.

that is wrong, I am personally just talking about the defensive side. I sit on offense be quiet and wait for that big great play to happen before I jump up in joy.

I've got a moron that sits in front of me every week that insists on standing the entire game. It drives me crazy. I told him if he wanted to be a cheerleader than he should put on a miniskirt and wave some pom poms.

I'd suggest the starter of this thread do the same thing.

hmmmm you want to call me out and for what reason? I only am talking about defense. And if you said that to me on a 3rd down on defense which is what most of my posts refer to then I would turn around to you and say "me wear a skirt? your the one thats acting like a pu**y"

The sad truth is, if even 1/2 the folks in the stands cheered loudly when it counted, it would be deafening. Standing wouldn't matter.

There are a lot of wine and cheesers at FedEx, and a lot of opposing fans. Sadly, the passion and energy on this board is far from typical of the average game attendee. Part of that is the transitional nature of the area, but a lot of it I blame Snyder and company for... the blatant commercialism thats creates an environment thats hardly conducive to creating rabid fans in the stands.

While I agree with you, not a fan of Fed-Ex at all, if we were winning it would be a different story.

I thought the atmosphere last season was awesome.

I disagree with this. This is just one example from a different sport, but I think it fits--I HATE Duke, but I do believe their fans who stand up and go nuts throughout an entire game at Cameron Indoor certainly have an impact on the game. It's debatable how great the impact is, but I think any college basketball coach would agree that it has enough of an impact that they have to get their team psychologically prepared for it.

Besides, I'm pretty sure people's voices tend to project more when they're standing, if you want to get into the physics of it. :)

Having been a Duke fan for a long time and going to a ton of games I can promise you that playing at Cameron is an experience that other teams dont look forward to and a big part of it is the fact that the fans never sit down and never stop making noise. Feel free to watch a English Premier League game on TV sometime as well and good look finding someone sitting during the match. Its part of the atmosphere that makes a venue an advantage not just a venue.

yes self centered jackass, standing up doesn't support the team anymore than sitting and cheering, and I have just as much right to enjoy the game and cheer on my team as you, you can't sit and cheer... why don't you stay home and stand up to watch the game.

Newsflash... you're not the only one who matters... and save the stupid BS... supporting my team crap.... explain to me exactly how standing does one single thing more to show support than sitting?????

it doesn't you should been escorted out of the stadium

why don't you do us all a favor quit you're crying and STFU

Usually I agree with you on most instances Bubba, but you are dead wrong on this one.

If getting off your *** and showing some support didnt give the players a buzz or a lift, then they wouldnt ask us to do it. How many times have you seen us or any other team break huddle and defensive players are motioning for the crowd to stand up? It happens all the time.

Call me selfish but I dont give a damn about your bad knees. If you are physically unable to participate in such activities then maybe your couch would provide you more comfort.

Also, being a mod, I think your "STFU" comments set a terrible example. :2cents:

I myself apologize for saying STFU in my first post, it was the wrong way to start this topic.

But for those that want to keep calling me the topic creator a moron first read my whole post. I am talking about 3rd downs and big plays on defense. I am not talking about standing the whole game, I dont even stand on offense unless something crazy happened or its the end of the game and its close and everyone else is.

I was told to sit down by the usher while we are on defense, that enough is unnaceptable but it was on 3rd down. That is what this is about.

If you still are calling me a "moron" after that, then dont come to games anymore please. If you think I am going to give up standing and being loud on big 3rd down plays because you dont want to get up you can forget it. If you think whining to the usher is going to stop me then you can forget it.

Next year I am going to look for only upper level seats, the real fans seem to be up there mostly. I have had more fun there then anywhere else in the stadium, including dream seats.

I am sorry that I apparently offended you by comparing the atmosphere at a Duke basketball game to what Fedex should be. I was merely suggesting that turning a home venue into an advantage is what every team in the world should focus on and in fact Duke does at Cameron, and numerous EPL teams do this as well (these arent college teams by the way) for example Chlesea at Stamford Bridge.

Keep coming to the games SkinsFan13. Keep cheering til you lose your voice! Stand on those big 3rd downs for the D, and other times when appropriate, while being aware and considerate of those around you. Everything will be cool, especially when the Redskins turn this thing around and make winning a habit again.
