There were a ton of "cushion" questions. So I led with it and tried to dig into it. The answer was pretty much what you'd expect. I thought Carlos was pretty honest about how he's playing and what he needs to do to improve. But, I'm sure you'll all have your own thoughts too. emonroe726 Carlos, Where you line up on defensive seems to put you at a disadvantage by you being so far off of the line of scrimmage, is this where Coach Williams wants you to lineup or is it more of your own comfort level? Carlos Rogers At different times it’s more of our scheme…certain calls we have that we have to play at a certain distance. A lot of times it’s to not to give up a deep ball, it’s to make the opponent catch the ball in front of us and make the tackle. At different calls we get I line up at different positions. Our coaching of it is we had a big problem with giving up deep balls and balls getting behind us. Carlos Rogers It’s helped me a whole lot. With Shawn, looking at him last year before I started starting and him talking to me, telling me things about technique and speed of the game and how fast guys are and how most routes are going to be inside at this level up here. With Jerry Gray coming in, his main focus was eyes and using my talent, my speed and my quickness to bring that on the field and bring the best out of me. tkebigdaddy Carlos, What do you think the reason is behind the secondary getting beat so much this year when we have the same defense as last year? Carlos Rogers I think it’s all discipline and just not being on the same page at times when we get certain calls. Carlos Rogers Right now (laughing a little) it’d be Campbell because he’s (like) a rookie. He hasn’t experienced a lot, as far as getting snaps in a game time situation. We’d throw different looks at him and get him kind of confused. As far as Brunell, he’s seen a lot. You have to really scheme up things for him and just play tight defense. I think a lot of the music that comes from Atlanta down south, whether it’s “Lean with it, rock with it,” or “Walk it out,” guys, when they hear that, they get pumped up. Everybody in the locker room is looking at me, “Carlos, show me the dance,” do this or do that. I think it sparks the energy for this team and especially for the defense. Any secondary playing against him, you know, that guy’s like 35-years-old but still’s probably the fastest guy in the NFL. I think it’s kind of frustrating being drafted as high as he (was) and not being able to play like last year and the beginning of the season this year. I think he’s come a long way, he’s frustrated, he’s getting mad, but after talking to guys like McNabb and McNair, you know, other quarterbacks that’s done experienced what he has experienced they talk to him and calm him down. The team, both offensively and defensively, is playing horribly. Not ONE player that was here last year has played better this year. And yet we still throw them these softball questions. Nice. I'm suprised that pointless gas or charcoal crap wasnt asked. What's next, you gonna ask him what color his underwear is? Boxers or briefs? We fix the major problem..but others open up... from what i remember, this was what the d looked like in some games last year... giving up the 6-12yr'd slants but usually haveing the deep stuff covered, we relied (or more of got saved by) on the lb's and D linemen getting their hands up.. just hasent panned out this year. It is true I will select a modestly respectful question over a, "Hey, you suck, do you know that?" question. That does not make it soft. Rogers was asked about the cushion he gives. He was asked about being beaten deep as a team. These are generally as hard as it gets. He was asked what he could do to improve the team's situation. If you required them to be asked impolitely, you're in the wrong place. As for gas or charcoal, it is a question that means something to the community it is asked for. It may well be pointless to you, but, that is a reflection of your lack of contribution to the community, not on a lack of understanding by it. This chat got cut a little tighter than expected so we didn't get to it or others. I do intermix easy, personal questions, with harder ones in every chat so it flows better. He did give insight that Campbell was mad he hasn't gotten his opportunity yet. The big cushion issue...is partly his fault and partly the coaching. I'm sure the coaches told them to not give up the big plays on defense. It is a weak defensive strategy and not my choice, but their philosophy is giving up field goals instead of touchdowns and relying on the offense to score touchdowns. This is pretty much, as I've stated in other post, Marty ball 101. A "don't give up the big play" defense combined with a boring "grind-it out, keep it close" offense. That would be Donte Stallworth? The Semi-Truck? Carlos would be pulled if it was continuously his fault on those plays, for all we know it is Lemar Marshall's call on the play (Or Sean Taylor who has been struggling with calling the 2ndary allignments) --------- Carlos you'll have to do more than drop 2 interceptions to lose me as a fan, few players on the team bring it like you bring it. btw, I wouldn't check Extremeskins either - that **** would be hard to take! :laugh: Yea well, the sad part is we're giving these huge cushions allowing the short routes and to prevent the deep ball except, we're still giving up the deep ball :doh: . yeah but only like 2 real deep balls in the last 2 games right? QBs are hardly challenging Carlos Rogers, that should count as something to the fans... he must be doing something right. Right? Not to mention he had Archuleta as his cap for a huge part of the season. That **** must have been hard to handle. I wonder if Arch will ever get it together... TSO Posted November 18, 2006 Share Posted November 18, 2006 I think the reason why we see Rogers line up with so much of a cushion a lot of the times is not simply because of the deep ball, but also because of how physical a guy he is. Carlos is one of the few DBs who can really hit and tackle well(at least he usually does). We've seen it from him on many occasions where he runs up to stop the quick pass and gets a good tackle. Now things haven't went to well this season for us, but hey, he still is the same player. I remember the one play to TO the last game we played when Dallas came up here where he lined up giving TO a big cushion and they passed it out to him real quickly to take advantage. He had absolutely NO safety help behind him, and if TO passes him it's a TD. Did he? Nope. He pushed him out of bounds. That's the trust we have in Carlos. He'll be fine. We just aren't playing as a group well this year. BTW, good interview. I appreciate it. I don' think the questions were soft at all, and he surely gave us some insightful answers.
