Benson really needed that win and more importantly the finish.  He's lost twice to the champ, he's a threat to beat all the up and comers, and he's not exactly the exciting fighter he used to be. He could have been on his way to getting Fitch'd.

I'm still mad about that decision last night. Way to **** up the legitimacy of the sport. Makes it look like a damn circus. Next stop for Fertitta Brothers & Barnum & Baley - some other town with ****ing City Councelmembers as judges. Between the Stipe/Maldanado main event and this bull**** scorecard - I'm in dire need of Weidman vs. Machida. Hurry up and get here.

Dominick Cruz: "Explain what Diego did right."

Gilbert Melendez: "No. 1, he fought in front of his hometown in ABQ."

Yep, that's about right

Beyond that, my theory on what forced the decision to go that way is Dana knows that if Sanchez lost yet again, he would have a hard time justifying NOT cutting him, based on his recent record (had he lost, it would have been 6 losses over his last 9 fights) And everyone knows Dana wants to keep him in the UFC, at least for the supposed "entertainment value" alone.

You think the UFC brass and judges are intermingling?  The UFC and athletic commissions are independent of one another.  If there were basement-of-the-casino meetings at 4am with Lorenzo, Dana, and Cecil Peoples, I'd be shocked.  It would be the MMA version of the baseball steroid scandal.

But I don't think that's what is happening.  First, it would be WAY too risky, definitely not worth it.  They don't give that much of a **** about Diego, or any fighter, for that matter, to risk an enormous controversy.  Secondly, it appears that judges are just dumb as rocks.  They make horrible decisions in all levels of the UFC.  From Facebook fights to championship fights.  They are swayed by the stupidest ****, it's become predictable.  It would be one thing if they were good up until a high-stakes fight, but they're all over the place, all the time.

Well if we are going with revisionist history here, Diego would be 1-8 in his last 9, counting Pearson, Gomi & Kampmann as loses. His lone win would them be at UFC 121, vs Paulo Thiago back in 2010.

Dude is just outmatched in today's UFC, but won't be cut, he has fans, Dana thinks he sells & judges count his flurries that miss but get good crowd reactions in his favor. Its like the perfect storm to extend a UFC career.

http://espn.go.com/mma/story/_/id/11062115/chael-sonnen-fails-random-drug-test-ufc-175-bout

LAS VEGAS -- UFC light heavyweight Chael Sonnen has failed a random drug test in the state of Nevada and will not fight Vitor Belfort at UFC 175 on July 5.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission randomly tested Sonnen last month while he was in Las Vegas to attend a UFC news conference. Results confirmed the presence of two illegal substances, Anastrozole and Clomiphene.

NSAC chairman Francisco Aguilar confirmed the test results to ESPN.com on Tuesday.

I......am......shocked...

So the convicted criminal (fraud) that lied to the athletic commissions investigating his previous failed test.... Has failed another test? Impossible.

I really can't understand Dana White's infatuation with this idiot. He's obviously someone that can't be trusted and yet he's constantly given big fights and lots of press. Get rid of this clown already.

So Chael has breast cancer & is trying to have a baby?

He went on Jay Mohr's show & said he was prescribed both after coming off TRT, & notes they are not steroids or PED's, but doesn't note why they are banned. My guess is they can be used as masking agents.

I bet Dana is really hating that Lorenzo caved to GSP's testing demands, this will not be the only big name that fails a test before a fight if NSAC is serious about out of competition testing.

Well there is always TV Chael, & that sure as heck beats getting punched in the face for a living.

Meanwhile, Stephan "Mark McGwire" Bonnar tests positive for ninja turtle ooze, and he's in the UFC HoF. He could've Weidman'd Anderson and then tested positive. Would've been great. Good thing he had Demian Maia power, even while on the HoF juice.

Dana has done a great job, but he plays favorites like crazy now. If you aren't stroking off the UFC, you barely exist. Only in a negative light.

Diego Sanchez is a scab that won't pick off. So tired of watching him get beaten up and still win fights simply because he doesn't get finished and he gets inspired by his own blood.

I cannot stand his personality and I cannot stand seeing him collect UFC checks merely for his scowl. Ross Pearson dominated him.

Chael retired.

That's awesome on a lot of levels, not the least of which Vitor gets screwed if he isn't already with the NSAC & the failed tests.

$100 says Vitor (or his wife) goes to Machida's gym & tries to Nancy Kerrigan Lyoto when he finally realizes he doesn't have a fight.

100% agree. Retire & become a regional hero in New Mexico, can't be that bad of a life.

Glad to see that fraud gone. Never understood why that one dimensional roiding cheat was so popular in the first place. Somewhere GSP has to be laughing at Dana now. I guess GSP was right about that drug problem huh Dana

I haven't even visited Sherdog since Chael was popped. Nope. Staying away.

I think it's those WWE Lesnar crossover fans that love him. Any time he would do a Q&A, his biggest fans were clones of that "IT'S STILL REAL TO ME DAMMIT" guy.

You got a point there, he usually "borrows" a famous pro wrestling taunts in his in ring interview after a win & in some other interviews as well.

Bloody Elbow has a good piece on the spin Chael & Dana used to get in front of this the best they can & how horrible they look once someone discovers the real facts.
