Atlantic City?

I'm thinking about going up to Atlantic City for a weekend with the wife for our 4 year anniversary.

Neither of us has been there. Do you have any suggestions on where to stay and what to see and do other than the casinos? We'd like to stay in a hotel that has a casino in it, which I'm sure there are plenty to choose from. She'll probably stick to the slots and I’ll try to lose my money on a bit of everything.

It's just a weekend trip getting up there Friday night and checking out Sunday.

AC kinda sucks bro. I used to go twice a week when I was younger.

Besides gambling and entertainment it really isnt that great. The beach is so-so, and once you leave the boardwalk the rest of the city is a dump.

Granted I havent been to AC in almost 10 years so who knows.

Congrats on four years and good luck.

Are there any other places you considered ? Are you going for gambling and beach or what ?

Don't go venturing into the "ruins". Watch out for gangs in the more rundown areas. And don't hold your ID in your hands when you go walking along the boardwalk or on the ramps going up to and by the boardwalk...those wooden cracks are deceptively easy to lose it in.

We're just going to go out of town for the weekend, the wife doesn't care where we go as long as it somewhere and she's spending time with me. Not really going for the beach since we go to South Myrtle beach at the end of every summer for a week.

We'll be leaving Friday night and 4 hours is about as long as I'll want to be in the car to get there.

Maybe Williamsburg would be a better option.

What about visiting Shenandoah National Park? I'm not sure where you are in MD, but from Waldorf it's about a two hour drive. I'd recommend staying in Front Royal (there's a few hotels there and there are restaurants).

You can see all of Shenandoah's wildlife ... visit Luray Caverns ... hike to waterfalls ... wander in the woods!

It's an inexpensive way to get away!

I live 15-20 minutes from Atlantic City. If you are not into gambling then it really isn't worth the trip. As Candace has stated, the Borgota is a real nice place. I like going to the Trop and into the French Quarter. There is a bunch of good restaurants, clubs, the Comedy Stop, bars, and shops. I suggest that if you are set on AC and want to have a good time.. stick to the Quarter. You would not regret it.

The best dinner in AC, in mine and my fiances opinion is in the Wild Wild West casino called "The Virginia City Buffet", something like $18/person the last time we went, and that includes a free flame grilled steak, they cook it right in front of you. Worth the price alone for just the steak.

As far as Casinos go, the Borgotta is the best one (feels like a vegas casino) then we like The Tropicana.

If your just looking for a place to be alone and chill candace is right about the Shenandoah Valley. I like staying on skyline dirve. Its a beautiful drive to the hotel if you take skyline drive from front royal to skyland lodge. Skyland lodge (elev. 3800ft) is a rustic no frills place with amazing views and a disconnect from the outside world. The cabin we stayed in had not TV or phone. Here is a link to the place. Lots of cool hiking around the lodge. There is a waterfall hiking trail that takes you by some cool waterfalls.

I go to AC every year. Lemme tell you though, it's not that great. There isn;t much to do other then go on the beach and go to the casinos........and go to a strip club if u want to. The tropicana is a nice place to stay at reasonable cost. The AC boardwalk isn;t that great and there is not much to do for kids. It might even be a better idea to get a place in Ocean City. There is more shopping and better beaches. As well as things to do for kids if u have any. If you want to gamble, then you can just drive to AC and come back later.

Stay at the Tropicana. They have recently built new shops, an IMAX Theatre, and a few other things. The Borgata is nice and all, but you're stuck off the strip. You can always catch a cab and spend a few hours there but, besides their plush seats in the poker room, I don't see any advantages in staying there over a casino on the strip. Plus, during the day, you can walk up and down the boardwalk.

I always make a point to go by Bally's where the lady with no limbs plays the keyboard with her tongue while lying face down on a hospital stretcher. I also always go to the Showboat and bowl a couple games to get away from the tables. When I was 18 my friend and I bowled right next to Marcus Camby and Lou Roe. They were actually really good and talked to us for a few minutes and gave us autographs.

You haven't been to AC in a while.

That woman is no longer among the living (Jitney accident) and the Showboat is more about the House of Blues than bowling.

If you are going to go make it worth the trip, which means spend money. The attractions are definetely becoming well noted and depending on the date you could probably find a top notch show. I was there in March to catch The Pogues at Borgata. Same night NIN and Alice in Chains were at the HOB's and another big show at the Trop.

Once you're broke, than go to the beach.

Two places in A.C. to hit up other than the casinos -

1. The Tun Tavern - its a microbrewery located in the convention center. Good beer, good food, and free parking in a safe spot.

2. White House subs - right around the corner from the Tun. Best Italian subs in the world. Cool atmosphere - tons of pictures of the celebrities that have eaten there - including the Beatles.

FWIW - the Showboat no longer has the bowling alley.

Co-sign.

Personally, I always go with the steak sub though.

I go up to AC a good bit to play poker and people ALWAYS want me to bring them a sub from the white house.
