  1. Agreed. He's an ox to the Turner gazelle. I like the change of pace both bring to the offense.
  2. Another good article about the new charges... The Real Goal of the New Mar-a-Lago Charges Against Trump On Thursday, the Florida grand jury that indicted Donald Trump and his valet, Walt Nauta, in June for obstructing a grand jury investigation and conspiring to willfully retain classified documents, filed a superseding indictment. That means the grand jury issued a new charging document to replace the old. It’s a bombshell. The new indictment adds a new defendant, Carlos de Oliveira, Trump’s property manager at his Mar-a-Lago property. More importantly, it also adds explosive new charges that include allegations of a conspiracy to corruptly persuade another person to alter, conceal, delete, and mutilate security camera footage at Mar-a-Lago. That footage presumably documented the unlawful retention of government documents. The new allegation is that Trump sought to have it destroyed after receiving a grand jury subpoena for it. Of course, an indictment is only an accusation, not proof. And the defendants are innocent until proven guilty. Without minimizing the importance of those legal facts, one can state the obvious: These allegations are dynamite for a trial jury. Special Counsel Jack Smith would not have allowed the grand jury to include the charges unless he had compelling evidence to prove them. That evidence at the very least appears to include testimony from Yuscil Taveras, a Mar-a-Lago IT employee whom de Oliveira allegedly cornered in an audio closet days after Trump received the subpoena and told “the boss” wanted the server deleted. As an experienced prosecutor, Smith knows that defense lawyers’ bottom-line job is complete if they provide a jury with enough reasonable doubt so that a single juror resists voting to convict and hangs the jury. Smith is not blind to the fact that Florida, where the trial will take place, is Trump country, and that jurors who start out leaning strongly his way are likely. What Smith appears to have done with this superseding indictment, however, is to have assembled the kind of case that that is so strong—and alleged misconduct that should be so offensive to any law-abiding citizen—that any majority in the jury room for conviction will be armed with the kind of ammunition that could overpower even the most recalcitrant hold-out. Here are five reasons why the new charges are packed with punch for jurors. First, you don’t need to be a criminologist, or even to have binged Law and Order episodes to understand that destroying evidence is what mobsters do to cover their tracks and try to stay out of the joint. Prosecutors call it “consciousness of guilt,” which can be the best available evidence of corrupt intent. https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2023/07/new-mar-a-lago-charges-against-trump-jack-smith.html
  3. Wow. This is right out of the Herman Goebbels handbook. Has there been any reports on educators reactions to this mandate? I can't imagine any moderate parent Dem or GQP seeing this and thinking it's acceptable/responsible to have there children see these videos. Another series, called “How To" instructs kids on the proper ways to conform to society’s expectations of them, or to repress any unease that results from a sense that power is unequally distributed. "So don’t let anybody tell you it’s bad to fit stereotypes.” Who's "society" are they referring to? I thought Puddin' Fingers banned talk of gender in elementary/middle school? It's Saturday. I gotta stop. My ****ing head hurts. These people...SMFH
  4. Randy Meisner, who was a co-founding member of legendary rock band the Eagles and served as a bassist and vocalist, has died, according to an announcement on the band’s official site. He was 77. “The Eagles are sad to report that founding member, bassist, and vocalist, Randy Meisner, passed away last night (July 26) in Los Angeles at age 77, due to complications from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease (COPD),” the statement, posted on Thursday, read. “Randy was an integral part of the Eagles and instrumental in the early success of the band. His vocal range was astonishing, as is evident on his signature ballad, ‘Take It to the Limit,’” said the Eagles. https://edition.cnn.com/2023/07/27/entertainment/randy-meisner-death/index.html

  8. Halos get 2 former Nats for 2 AA prospects... The Los Angeles Angels acquired right-hander Lucas Giolito and right-handed reliever Reynaldo Lopez from the Chicago White Sox for two top prospects late Wednesday, bolstering their roster on the same day they decided they would not trade star Shohei Ohtani before he hits free agency this winter. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/38078671/angels-acquire-lucas-giolito-reynaldo-lopez-white-sox What would the Nats get for Candelario from them?

  10. A leprosy endemic? So far this year, eight people got leprosy in Florida Leprosy, the infectious disease most commonly known for its biblical associations, has become more common in Florida, researchers warn. In 2020, the Sunshine State was among the states with the highest number of leprosy cases, contributing to evidence that the infection is becoming endemic in the southeastern region of the country, according to a journal published in an August edition from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Leprosy, scientifically referred to as Hansen’s disease, damages the skin and peripheral nervous system. Although leprosy has been historically uncommon in the U.S. since the early 1980s, the report states that cases have more than doubled in the region over the past decade. Central Florida seems to be the focus of the rise in cases, with researchers pointing out that 81% of leprosy cases in Florida between 2002 and 2021 came from the area. Nationally, Central Florida accounted for almost one-fifth of cases. https://www.rawstory.com/florida-leprosy/

  12. Unskilled Florida Man Regrets Missing Out on Being Enslaved TALLAHASSEE (The Borowitz Report)—An unskilled Florida man said that he deeply regrets having missed out on the opportunity to be a slave. The man said that his “lack of access to enslavement” had made his acquisition of essential skills “impossible.” “Every day when I mess something up at work, I wonder to myself, would I be doing a better job if I’d been a slave?” he said. “There’s no question that it would have been a game-changer for me.” He argued that being barred from forced servitude was a form of “white underprivilege,” and that Caucasians who suffer from a resulting skills deficit deserve reparations. “Something must be done to compensate people like me who were unfairly denied the chance to be slaves,” he said. “When I think about the personal benefits I was prevented from obtaining, it makes me furious.” https://www.newyorker.com/humor/borowitz-report/unskilled-florida-man-regrets-missing-out-on-being-enslaved
