  1. The Reggae Girlz secured their spot in the last 16 after a stalemate draw saw them knock out Brazil.
  2. ^^Another article - opinion - that also acknowledges Dickinson's support for Colorado. Whitmire: Tommy Tuberville leaves Alabama lost in space Don’t blame Tommy Tuberville for losing Space Command. Blame Kay Ivey. As Alabama governor, she is supposed to be our state’s first, best champion. Don’t blame Tommy Tuberville for losing Space Command. Blame Tommy Battle. As Huntsville mayor, he is supposed to look out for the interests of his city. Don’t blame Tommy Tuberville for losing Space Command. Blame Katie Britt. Coach isn’t Alabama’s only U.S. senator. Tuberville’s manipulation of Senate rules to stonewall military promotions isn’t a novel, genius political tactic. He’s a toddler who found a pistol on the nightstand. And when the gun goes off, and somebody gets hurt, it’s not the kid that’s to blame. It’s the grownups who didn’t do anything to stop it from happening in the first place. ... “This fight is far from over,” U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Saks, tweeted. Ahem. It’s over. What’s remarkable about Biden’s decision is how long it took. He could have flipped this switch the moment Donald Trump copped to rigging the game for Alabama on the Rick & Bubba Show. Trump’s dumb comments — which were probably another lie — gave Biden cover to do for Colorado what Trump claimed to have done for Alabama. What Biden needed was a veneer of plausibility. He needed a general to say this was the right thing to do. And what Alabama needed was military brass to say, “No, Mr. President, Colorado is not the best place for this. We did a study and …” But who’s going to do that when Alabama’s senior senator is being a jerk to the very folks Alabama needed on our side? In the end, the Associated Press reported, it was General James Dickinson, the head of Space Command, who persuaded the president that Colorado was the best choice. https://www.al.com/news/2023/08/whitmire-tommy-tuberville-leaves-alabama-lost-in-space.html

  4. Yep...a former judge on CNN just shot down that type of defense - 1st amendment right. Can't remember exactly what he said, but basically it's a ****ty defense and easily refutable.
  5. Hahahaha....Dumb ass TFG lawyer on CNN now claiming TFG is being indicted for his 1st amendment rights! bwahahaha...'Simply pause the voting, Pence'. Now he's claiming he was given advice from his lawyers that he can do this. This idiot lawyer spelling out TFG defense - 'criminalizing political speech'...lmao
  6. All - great posts & comments on this. I wonder how the SS texts fit into this, if at all? I'm guessing there's more indictments for TFG coming: wire fraud re: fundraising over the stop the steal lies. Anything else on the fed level that's being pursued? Obviously, GA indictments on the horizon - I'm guessing after TFG court appearance for these charges on Thursday. Maybe Friday to kick off the weekend?
  7. Sources: Houston Astros acquiring Justin Verlander from Mets The Houston Astros have a deal in place to acquire ace Justin Verlander from the New York Mets, sources familiar with the agreement told ESPN's Jeff Passan on Tuesday. Verlander returns to Houston, where he starred after arriving via trade from the Detroit Tigers in August 2017 until he entered free agency last fall. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/38115264/sources-houston-astros-acquiring-justin-verlander-mets
  8. Prominent DeSantis donor dies in apparent suicide during sexual misconduct probe: report A prominent ally of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis with unprecedented access to local authorities and reportedly under investigation for alleged sexual misconduct has died in what is being investigated as a suicide. Kent Stermon, 50, of Jacksonville, was found dead in a truck parked outside the Atlantic Beach post office around 8 p.m. Thursday, the Florida Times-Union reported. Stermon had been reported missing by his wife, Christie, after his heart monitor stopped earlier that day, the First Coast News reported. Shortly after the discovery of his body, police announced they were investigating his death as a suicide. Stermon was under investigation for alleged sexual misconduct at the time of his death, law enforcement sources told the Times-Union. https://nypost.com/2022/12/13/desantis-donor-kent-stermon-dies-in-apparent-suicide-amid-probe-report/

  11. Max on the move... Mets agree to deal Scherzer to Rangers, pending ace's approval The New York Mets on Saturday agreed to trade pitcher Max Scherzer to the Texas Rangers, pending Scherzer's approval, a source told ESPN, confirming multiple reports. Scherzer, who has a no-trade clause, is 9-4 this season for the Mets, who have disappointed after an offseason of spending. He has 121 strikeouts in 107.2 innings and 19 starts, but has not been able to keep the Mets competitive in the clogged National League wild-card race. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/38096440/mets-agree-deal-scherzer-rangers-pending-ace-approval Article doesn't say who's on the hook for his $43.3m next year.
  12. Agreed. He's an ox to the Turner gazelle. I like the change of pace both bring to the offense.
  13. Another good article about the new charges... The Real Goal of the New Mar-a-Lago Charges Against Trump On Thursday, the Florida grand jury that indicted Donald Trump and his valet, Walt Nauta, in June for obstructing a grand jury investigation and conspiring to willfully retain classified documents, filed a superseding indictment. That means the grand jury issued a new charging document to replace the old. It’s a bombshell. The new indictment adds a new defendant, Carlos de Oliveira, Trump’s property manager at his Mar-a-Lago property. More importantly, it also adds explosive new charges that include allegations of a conspiracy to corruptly persuade another person to alter, conceal, delete, and mutilate security camera footage at Mar-a-Lago. That footage presumably documented the unlawful retention of government documents. The new allegation is that Trump sought to have it destroyed after receiving a grand jury subpoena for it. Of course, an indictment is only an accusation, not proof. And the defendants are innocent until proven guilty. Without minimizing the importance of those legal facts, one can state the obvious: These allegations are dynamite for a trial jury. Special Counsel Jack Smith would not have allowed the grand jury to include the charges unless he had compelling evidence to prove them. That evidence at the very least appears to include testimony from Yuscil Taveras, a Mar-a-Lago IT employee whom de Oliveira allegedly cornered in an audio closet days after Trump received the subpoena and told “the boss” wanted the server deleted. As an experienced prosecutor, Smith knows that defense lawyers’ bottom-line job is complete if they provide a jury with enough reasonable doubt so that a single juror resists voting to convict and hangs the jury. Smith is not blind to the fact that Florida, where the trial will take place, is Trump country, and that jurors who start out leaning strongly his way are likely. What Smith appears to have done with this superseding indictment, however, is to have assembled the kind of case that that is so strong—and alleged misconduct that should be so offensive to any law-abiding citizen—that any majority in the jury room for conviction will be armed with the kind of ammunition that could overpower even the most recalcitrant hold-out. Here are five reasons why the new charges are packed with punch for jurors. First, you don’t need to be a criminologist, or even to have binged Law and Order episodes to understand that destroying evidence is what mobsters do to cover their tracks and try to stay out of the joint. Prosecutors call it “consciousness of guilt,” which can be the best available evidence of corrupt intent. https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2023/07/new-mar-a-lago-charges-against-trump-jack-smith.html
  14. Wow. This is right out of the Herman Goebbels handbook. Has there been any reports on educators reactions to this mandate? I can't imagine any moderate parent Dem or GQP seeing this and thinking it's acceptable/responsible to have there children see these videos. Another series, called “How To" instructs kids on the proper ways to conform to society’s expectations of them, or to repress any unease that results from a sense that power is unequally distributed. "So don’t let anybody tell you it’s bad to fit stereotypes.” Who's "society" are they referring to? I thought Puddin' Fingers banned talk of gender in elementary/middle school? It's Saturday. I gotta stop. My ****ing head hurts. These people...SMFH
  15. Randy Meisner, who was a co-founding member of legendary rock band the Eagles and served as a bassist and vocalist, has died, according to an announcement on the band’s official site. He was 77. “The Eagles are sad to report that founding member, bassist, and vocalist, Randy Meisner, passed away last night (July 26) in Los Angeles at age 77, due to complications from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease (COPD),” the statement, posted on Thursday, read. “Randy was an integral part of the Eagles and instrumental in the early success of the band. His vocal range was astonishing, as is evident on his signature ballad, ‘Take It to the Limit,’” said the Eagles. https://edition.cnn.com/2023/07/27/entertainment/randy-meisner-death/index.html
