The All Things 2022 OTAs/Training Camp Thread
ColonialWBSkinsFan replied to Forever A Redskin's topic in The Stadium
I think the point is, if everyone knew he was so raw, then why did our dumb ass front office pick him #19 overall, and then try to force him into a position he'd never played and apparently doesn't match the skillset for ?!? I don't hate Davis as a player, but to argue that the decision to pick him was anything other than stupidity and arrogance on RR and JDR's part is pointless. Serious question, not just to you, @KDawg, but to everyone else here who is bending over backwards to justify the decision to take Davis at #19: Right now, would you rather have Darrisaw and JOK, or Davis and Cosmi? Because by taking Davis at 19, that's what we gave up on. -

Gotta agree here... if we can't beat the Jags at home in week 1, it's gonna be a long damn season. -

Yes, you're 100% right, it wasn't Jamin's fault. And no player should ever be directly faulted for being drafted "too high", as of course they have no direct say in the process. But this is a BIG fail on the front office / coaching staff side (looking at you, Ron Rivera). To draft a very inexperienced, weakside linebacker with a premium, top-20 overall pick, then try to put him in a position (Middle LB) where he never even played in college, was a reckless, arrogant play that so far looks awful. I actually like Davis, I truly hope that he can become a Pro-Bowl level player. But this whole thing is on Rivera's head at this point. And it's not a good look, at all. -

The problem though is that we drafted a LB "as a raw prospect" with the 19th overall pick in the first round. This pick sucked on draft night last year, and it's looking exponentially worse now. -

Single greatest moment in franchise history... not sure there is even a close second. -

With you 100% on this... We essentially traded Olave (or perhaps Hamilton, but I doubt that's where they would have gone if they stayed at #11) and our 6th rounder (#189) for: Jahan Dotson Brian Robinson Sam Howell Cole Turner Now, obviously, if Olave turns into something resembling Randy Moss 2.0, then we'll all be crying in our beers in a few years over what "could have been". But more likely, getting a stud WR, stud RB, potential franchise QB, and a TE1 will (hopefully) come off looking like an amazing haul. But then again, there's a reason why no organization can predict this stuff completely. Should be fun to watch. -

The Random Thought Thread (Stadium Edition)

It's exactly 100 days till the season opener Sept 11th against the Jaguars. -
A year of Rattler getting his teeth kicked in by real SEC defenses (they play Georgia, A&M, Tennessee, and Clemson, among others) should humble him a little bit. I actually do like his talent a lot, but he does come across somewhat diva-like.

UNC Alum (and super-fan) here... YES, Gemmel would be solid LB depth, for sure.

Why does this feel like another Ryan Anderson (overdrafted second rounder from Bama)? Someone please convince me I'm wrong. -
OR it could (and should) be seen as a once-a-decade shot to get a top-5 caliber player in Stingley ourselves at pick 11. It's not like we're flush with top CB talent. We have a history of outsmarting ourselves with the trade-down route (see Kerrigan v JJ Watt or Murphy v D Lawrence, for two examples.) Sometimes it makes sense to just get the stud that falls and don't worry about the extra 3rd.

Agreed. But the comp pick wouldn't come until the 2024 draft, would it? (Assuming he plays 2022-23 for us, then signs FA in spring 2023, that comp pick doesn't hit until the 2024 draft. The incompetence with this one is truly staggering.... and for this franchise that is saying a helluva lot.
-
Or we'll just let him play out this year and get our end-of-the-3rd round comp pick for him as has been the M.O. for nearly a decade... smh

For ****'s sake, why do I keep torturing myself rooting for this franchise

Not a chance that Sauce lasts until #11. I hope I'm wrong but I absolutely don't see it. If Sauce is there at #11 we better be sprinting our asses up to the podium with that card.

Ok, so here's my Dwayne Haskins positive vibes photo post... these three pics were taken at the 2019 Detroit game. Dwayne's first win as a starter, and yes, the infamous "selfie" game. My son and I (he was 13 at the time, he is 15 now) had a blast this day. It's the most recent game we've been able to attend in person (Covid and all, plus we live 3+ hours away from Landover). Bless my son's heart, despite the utter ****-show this franchise is and has been, he is becoming as die-hard a fan as I've been for 40+ years. I got him hooked when he was 6 in 2012, the RG3 year, and he still proudly rocks the throwback Griffin jersey that he's wearing here. Shameless plug, my son is now making videos on TikTok (yeah, I'm a 50-year old fart now and barely even know what that is, but I love the way he embraces this technology and uses it in a way to honor our once-proud franchise.) He just posted one earlier this week with some great Haskins highlights from OSU. If anyone on here is so inclined, take a look at his TikTok page (wascommandersclips). I'm sure he'd love to see some clicks and comments on the vids. (Disclaimer: he uses current hip hop songs for some of the clips so the language is NSFW in a few instances.... kids, what're ya gonna do??) Anyway, RIP Dwayne, as a father of two, it is heartbreaking to know that his parents are going to have to bury their child. You will be missed.

Disagree strongly here... not wanting to trade any more 2023 picks... we are already down (likely) our 2nd in the Wentz deal alone

Yes, this is true. I went back and rewatched the news report. Certainly makes you wonder if he may have been trying to harm himself. Truly tragic, regardless.

https://www.today.com/video/nfl-quarterback-dwayne-haskins-dies-after-hit-by-dump-truck-137460293579 This morning on the national TODAY show on NBC, it was reported that he was "running across the highway, arms waving, dressed in all black..." This story keeps getting sadder and more strange the more information comes available. 🙁

Awful, awful news. RIP I've checked ESPN, NFL.com, CNN, not seeing anything about this. Is it possible (hopefully) that this is a horrible joke tweet from a fake Schefter account?
