  1. There's always a way... you can kick the can on down the road indefinitely, knowing that the cap will continue to go up every year. It will eventually bite you (and is a prime reason why they had to trade Cooper for only a 6th round pick), but it can and is done.
  2. Starting to get a little frustrated watching most other teams working to improve themselves while we’re standing around holding our weiners and losing rotation players.
  3. OK, you're pessimistic. McNabb was 4 (5?) years older than Wentz is at this point, and wasn't anywhere near as good in his final seasons in Philly as Carson was last year in Indy. I get it, we all smell the recent stink of the Alex Smith trade (and contract EXTENSION, which was a million times worse) and the Fitzpatrick signing (which was truly a case of awful luck), But put that aside and realize that we fleeced the (crack-head) owner of one of the few franchises who are as dysfunctional as we are and got the most talented QB this franchise has had in two decades. And just be optimistic for a few months until proven otherwise.
  4. We also “tried our luck” with Gibson (3rd, 2020), Curl (7th round!!, 2020), McLaurin (3rd round!!, 2019), Holcomb (5th round, 2019), Settle (5th round, 2018), Roullier (6th round, 2017), and Ioannidis (5th round, 2017). No one hits them all, but that is a pretty impressive list of multi-year starters drafted in the 3rd round or later. And the book is completely not written with Chase, Dyami, or Jamin. Still time for any or all of them to show out. Yours is just a very bad take in this case.
  5. The swap of second round picks only moves us down from #42 to #47... not much impact there. So basically it's a 3rd this year, a 2nd in 2023 (hopefully, because if he doesn't play 70% of snaps that either means he got hurt or he sucked balls), and some money that we aren't hurting for. And if he does suck we can bail with no cap effect on 2023 or beyond. All in all, not the worst outcome here. Don't love giving up the #2 and #3 picks, but to those who are saying that Indy was going to cut him anyway, that may be (but probably isn't) true, and we know there are several other teams that are just as QB-starved as we are that may have upped the offer.
  6. Andersen, Mumma, Chenal, Harris, Clark, et al MAY end up being studs, but given the general crapshoot of drafting in general (and especially our draft history), go for the sure thing and draft a project to groom. We have the cap space to do it, won't cost us any compensatory picks for any of our FA's that go elsewhere (Scherff, McKissick, etc.), and we can still draft the MLB of the future. But we can also benefit in the PRESENT from a future HOF'er. This is a no-brainer, IF (and yes, that is a big IF) Wags is willing to come here.
  7. You mean the "we think we're smarter than everyone else and look what great value this is" draft strategy that has led to such "gems" as: Bryce Love Fabian Moreau Saahdiq Charles Phillip Thomas Devin Thomas Malcolm Kelly No thanks. For once I'd prefer all our draft picks to have intact ACL's this year...
  8. It's just money And the cap is going up at least $25M this year and likely will increase every year following. Just go make it happen!
  9. Yes you can. And should. This supposed “awful PR hit” narrative is nonsense. Our PR is already in the ****ter, a few dozen picketers in the parking lot isn’t going to make it appreciably worse. Just get it done. Even if he loses part of (or even a whole) season.
  10. Very curious to see what the Broncs ended up having to give up in the deal, and whether our offer was comparatively weak or that Russ just decided he didn't want to come to Danny-land
  11. Absolutely this. And yes, I think the Chargers will make the playoffs even though the AFC West is a murderer's row of QB's now.
  12. Love the concept here, but if you're Detroit, who are you targeting at #11 that you would give up 32, 34, and 97 to get? Especially when they're in a total rebuild. Just don't think RR could convince Detroit to make that deal.
  13. I'd take that deal right now in a heartbeat. And then still probably draft one of either Corral, Ridder, or Howell (my preferred) at #20, and pick up an extra #1 for next year. All day long.
  14. Heinicke is the built-in backup, haven't you been paying attention over the 362 pages of this thread? 🤣
  15. Small (probably 20-25% at best) chance for Howell to fall, virtually zero chance that Corral falls to our pick in the 2nd round
  16. May 25, 1999 (the day that Danny-boy bought our once-proud franchise) felt like an "End."
  17. Corral is not going to be there at #11. And this is coming from a UNC alum and someone who absolutely loves Howell.... but Corral is a tier above, and he will be picked before #11. If the staff decides that Corral is the guy (and to be fair, I'm not saying that I necessarily agree, but IF they do...), then they're going to have to move up to get him.
  18. Guessing that you're referring to the Niners getting Fred Warner in the 3rd round in the 2018 draft and then fleecing our resident idiot Brucifer to get Trent for a 3rd prior to the 2020 season...?
