  1. The curse is Dan Snyder, and he's very much among the living. No need to go hunting for causation.
  2. I'm in no way suggesting that John Mara is as big a nitwit as Dan Snyder, but the organizations are starting to bear a certain resemblance.
  3. Historically, I don't think GMs got fired as quickly as they do now. They had longer to implement their plans and hire coaches etc. Now, they're just like coaches where they get three years or less to show progress or they're out. Thus, it's hard to make it all line up in a single offseason. Tough to rebuild an entire football organization from scratch in a couple months. There's no possibility of success in Washington unless and until Snyder hires an actual football organization manager to run the team completely without Dan's interference or involvement. He's never done that, and I think at this point it's unlikely he ever will. It'll either be lackeys like Vinny/Bruce or "savior coaches" like Gibbs, Shanahan and Rivera. The pattern is well-established.
  4. D+ They might have snuck into the playoffs again if the Covid bug and a whole bunch of injuries hadn't decimated the team at key positions in the final third of the season. Maybe better they didn't--no way this team was going to the Super Bowl, and they gained a few placed in the draft order by not making it. Talent level at the skill positions on offense is still thin, and the linebacker situation needs to be addressed for real this offseason.
  5. Didn't that one picture of the railing clearly show a failed (and really ugly) weld? I doubt this is the first time that fans were pressed up against the railing trying to greet the players. Heck, you see it all the time on TV at game's end. Let's face it, the stadium isn't being maintained or fixed and is falling apart. It's quintessentially Snyder to go cheap on the maintenance. I remember reading that Redskins Park looked kind of shabby a few years ago.
  6. I fear the Danny Boy factor under either FA or draft scenarios. He has a history of interference in both.
  7. I don't see many good and realistic options for next season, to be honest. The decision might hinge on how much heat Ron will get to get to the playoffs next season--that's unlikely with a rookie under center.
  8. My sons' cub scout pack had a offer to go to the game today. So glad we didn't. Like I'm going to let them be in the vicinity of 30,000 Eagles fans. 😀
  9. I refuse to try and psychoanalyze this nitwit. His actions indicate that he does want to win. He's just terrible at it and has no talent for listening.
  10. I think it's as simple as the last month of craziness finally catching up with the team. Dead on their feet, and with a preseason roster, to boot. The starters who played just aren't dominant enough to make up for all the rest of it.
  11. The pressing issue is player acquisition, not coaching. It's not just the QB situation, either. Rivera is the guy in charge, and this year's draft/FA results certainly call that into question. It's doubtful he'd accept a demotion to just HC. Even if he would, there's no evidence Dan is capable of hiring a good chief football executive. Even if that miraculously happened, there's no evidence that guy would be allowed to do what's needed. It will always come back to Snyder, sad to say.
  12. Well, on the bright side, I'll be a lot better rested tomorrow. What a disgrace.
  13. Eh, could be. I'm always suspicious of those anonymously sourced stories. My guess is that the NFL wants Bezos more than he wants them. It's all fantasy anyway. The NFL isn't going to force Dan to sell.
  14. I'm in San Antonio for the holidays and had the same problem with the KC game going to the bitter end. It used to be that local affiliates could switch on their own unless they were one of the home markets for the game. Don't know if that changed, though.
  15. Bezos could probably have a team tomorrow if he wanted one. Is there anything other than pure speculation to indicate that he does?
  16. Maybe the Cowboys can bring in some functional sewage pipes the next time they visit FedEx Field.
  17. Next Man Up has its limits, and the WFT exceeded them last night. I can't get too down on the results.
  18. Perhaps one impediment to the league doing anything is that the WFT has become as relevant to the league's marketing and image as the Jaguars or Jets. Just another third-tier team that neither adds appreciably to league revenue nor detracts significantly from it. The Raiders have been a clownshow for many years, but their marketing impact remains huge--which I'm sure helped put pressure on them to ditch Jon Gruden ASAP. It's been 30 years since the Redskins/WFT had anything like that kind of importance.
  19. Sure, but Jerry built his fortune in the oil and gas business. I guarantee he's done things that would make Dan seem like a choirboy.
  20. I have to think that Jerry Jones is capable of being nastier and more threatening than Snyder if it comes down to that. To shut down Dan, the league would need to threaten disclosures that would financially ruin him and possibly expose him to criminal liability. Throw the legal risk back in his face, basically. Short of that, they might be stuck with him unless the business costs of keeping him are higher than the risk of cutting him loose.
  21. That's a very good question, and I don't pretend to know for sure. He was going to sell anyway, wasn't he? I think if he'd dug his heels, the owners wouldn't have taken action against him. It's possible that the NFL is scared of more and worse coming out if they go after Dan, thus making it into a bigger problem affecting other owners.
