Danny Boy's going to drag the entire NFL down into the mudpit with him. Whatever the league is hiding, it's going to come out sooner or later.

Game Day Thread - Washington at Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood

Does the team have a QB on the practice squad or who didn't make the trip? That could be interesting if both Heinecke and Allen get the 'rona. -
He's likely going to be litigating in some forum over the remaining money due on his contract. No sense in giving up negotiating leverage for no good reason. Chucky might be horrible at running a football team, but he's not stupid. As for the Bezos thing, he could have had a team well before now if he'd wanted one. He doesn't strike me as a big sports guy, and it's not like he needs the money or more prestige. He could write a check for the entire league if he wanted.

After yesterday's excruciating loss, I may be about ready to take a vacation from this miserable franchise for a while. I'm not going to go become a Ravens fan or whatever, but it's just getting harder to put myself through the on-field and off-field sadness surrounding this organization. Probably better to spend my Sundays a different way and see what happens. I'll probably pop in here for a few laughs periodically even if I get away from the games.

We talk about Riverboat Ron and all that, but if we'd kicked two chipshot FGs on the last two possessions, we'd be within one possession right now. Just sayin'. Not that it'd matter... -

His "intention"? What kind of nonsense is that? He wasn't touched and was clearly diving for the goal. It would be so WFT 2021 for this to be called back on something like that. -

Some other team missed a tackle, for a change. Nice. -

I didn't really see the PI there, but I'll take it. Hope Dyami is okay. -

Looked like Gibson could have bounced that outside for a better gain, but maybe I missed something. -

Hey, now that's the defense we've wanted to see all season. Good job. -

No one shuts Rodgers down, but my goodness you can't let them get so many YAC every single time. Are they not running tackling drills in Ashburn this year, or something? -

This tackling is an atrocity. -
Yes, the last couple years have really exposed how much Dan is into Donald Sterling territory. It's beyond the norm, even if the norm isn't perfect. I guarantee the rottenness extends into areas we don't know about yet, and it didn't just start when Bruce Allen showed up.

If whatever "it" is that's in those 650k emails is ugly or widespread enough, just watch the ads on Sunday to see a roster of companies that might no longer want their names associated with the NFL. They pressure the networks, the networks pressure the league, and it's game over. If anyone at the league office has half a brain (and they have some smart people there), they are working at getting ahead of this. Whether the congressional investigation accomplishes anything or not, the information is going to get out there soon simply because we all now know it exists. Inquiring minds want to know. If the emails are just Bruce spending his busy days emailing naughty pictures around, then Dan has nothing to worry about. I have a feeling the emails would already be released if that was the case.

The interesting thing will be to see whether the congresswomen will be willing to back up their request with subpoenas if/when the NFL refuses to turn over the emails.

When discussing franchise QBs, people tend to focus too much on the "QB" part and not enough on the "franchise" part. If Rodgers or Brady had been drafted by the Jets, they'd be long forgotten now. The WFT absolutely need to draft a QB soon (doesn't have to be next year, but probably no later than the year after). However, it's not that simple. Before successfully drafting anyone, the team will have to have scouts and decisionmakers on the same page and adhering to an overall offensive philosophy that allows them to pick the right guy (not necessarily the "best" guy) and then develop him in a productive environment. Don't expect to draft a guy at the top and then have him magically clean up this mess of a franchise with his brilliance. The Ryan Tannehill strategy only works if the team is already playoff-ready and just in need of decent QB play, like the Titans were. The WFT isn't even in that same neighborhood. Don't get someone else's castoff. My main concern is that the WFT is still a mess in the front office. What's the scouting org like? Should Ron be making the calls? Is Dan actually not butting in? In that environment, I'm not sure it matters, unfortunately.
