  1. Yes, but that goes back to my main point of who are we paying at the current moment? We can afford to throw the bag at T-Mac, and not kill our cap. Who else are we paying/going to pay? Sweat is due an extension after next season, and Young the season after that. Since we have Wentz at a very reasonable number, what’s the hesitation in paying our home grown players? We’re going to have to pay our own at some point. I can’t think of a more worthy person to reward than T-Mac. Let me reiterate, we’re not Green Bay or Kansas City with a QB making $50+ million, and maneuvering the cap for the rest of the roster. We’re in relatively good shape. Green Bay and Kansas City will start to feel the pinch of paying all that money to one player in the next few seasons. We don’t have that problem yet. So there should be no hesitation to pay at least market share or higher for our home grown players.
  2. That’s all good & well, but Wentz is almost a unicorn regarding his salary. If he flops, and we have to draft a QB, just be aware that franchise QB salaries will get into the $40 million+ range on average in a a year or two. Even middle of the pack QB’s will be getting $30 million+ going forward. As for WR’s, their salaries will be going up as well, since the salary cap continues to increase. The top line WR’s will be making Christian Kirk salary on average, and likely higher before long. This team already has the reputation of letting its stars walk (Cousins, Williams, Scherff), etc. Do you really want to let the only fan favorite on offense we’ve had walk through the door? T-Mac is practically the face of the franchise, and the only player next to Jonathan Allen that’s marketable and backs up his performance each Sunday. What kind of message would it send if we let ANOTHER fan favorite walk out the door? Besides, we’re not paying anyone else major money at the moment.
  3. I think a majority of the season ticket holders are from VA, but it doesn’t matter. Fans aren’t coming back even if they do win. The only way fans will ever come back to FED-EX or the new stadium, is if Dan is no longer the owner. Maybe if they have 2-3 years in a row of playoff appearances, with an NFC Championship/SUPERBOWL, that might bring some fans back, but the days of full stadiums filled with Washington fans are over.
  4. My guess is that if he craps the bed this offseason in trying to acquire a big time QB (not off to a great start so far on that front), then he needs to hit a home run in the draft in getting a franchise level QB. IF he drafts a QB, I think he’ll probably see all 5 years, and get an extension (provided our newly drafted franchise QB improves and shows signs of becoming legitimate by end of this year/early next year. If Ron punts again on drafting a QB, fails to acquire a big time QB, and settles for signing a terrible, mediocre QB like Trubisky or Mariotta to compete with Heinecke, then he will probably get fired next offseason. The clock starts now on how the rest of Ron’s tenure will play out. Today doesn’t help him or the FO at all.
  5. Not a chance in hell this happens. I said this earlier today in one of my posts, but this franchise is DESPERATELY in need of a franchise QB in order to take the stink off of the name reveal and jersey debacle, not to mention all of the other negative press currently hovering the team. I said earlier that the only fans left rooting for this franchise are the diehards, and this looks to be even more on point now. They're literally circling down the drain as a franchise. If they don't do something major to bring back fans, then this franchise is in perilous danger. There's literally nothing to cheer about with this franchise at the current moment save for a few players (T-Mac, and J. Allen). I bet this is also fueling their desperate need for obtaining a franchise QB, even more than the obvious reason that we need one to even compete. Just having a QB now generates buzz and jersey sales.
  6. True, that’s exactly my thinking as well. If you take out Ron’s first year due to Haskins, everything else has been questionable at best to nonsensical regarding the QB position. That’s why he’s desperate this year to get a QB, because last year was such a botch. If he had drafted a QB last year, he might have given Snyder an excuse to extend him beyond his 5 year deal, because a rookie QB requires 2-3 years of grooming to get them to that franchise level. It also lengthens your job security to an extent.
  7. This is complicated, and potentially dangerous to Rivera’s job prospects here in DC. If he actually went down this road, and someone they didn’t draft like Willis or Pickett ended up having a great rookie year and look like franchise QB’s in the making, then Ron is going to have egg on his face AGAIN, and will risk losing the trust of whatever’s left of the fanbase at that point. The team is bleeding fans each year, and they just had a terrible reveal of the name and jerseys. Quite frankly, the only people left cheering this team are the diehards. They need to make a gigantic move towards QB THIS YEAR, so that the rebrand doesn’t fail like we think it’s going to. Ron has to make sure that there is potential for getting a franchise QB this year in the draft. If they punt on drafting a QB again after punting on drafting one last year in a better QB class, that’s not going to be a good look. We’d better have traded for Wilson/Watson/Carr, if that’s the case. Signing some loser like Trubisky or Mariotta while punting on drafting a QB this year will be the end of Rivera in Washington.
  8. I don’t think that’s the case hear. The entire NFL world knows that we’re desperate for a franchise QB, even if Ron hadn’t said anything. We’ve had 8 different starting QB’s since Cousins left 4 years ago. I think every NFL team can deduce that we’ve been a QB hellhole the last few years. Put it this way, if Ron wasn’t putting out how desperate he/we all are at getting a franchise QB, we’d be horrified, and demanding his resignation due to QB negligence. Ron is speaking for himself, and quite possibly the entire fanbase, when he talks about our absolute need for a QB. No one seriously would believe Ron if he lied, and said that he’s content with our current QB situation.
  9. Therein lies the problem though. Rivera doesn't have much time left to develop a franchise guy. He's really put himself in a terrible position. He's going into year 3 of a 5 year deal. He should've drafted a QB last year, then he would've had more time to develop and gage the progress of the drafted QB. Rivera wasting this past offseason signing 38 year old Ryan Fitzpatrick, instead of drafting a QB in a much better QB class will come back to haunt him and his tenure here in DC. Why else do you think he's telegraphed the desperation the team has to get their guy THIS year? It's because he realizes the major mistake he made last offseason. It's why this offseason is so pivotal. The QB situation, along with the re-branding of the team will make or break this franchise going forward. If they strike out trying to trade for Watson/Wilson/Rodgers, and have to settle for signing a mediocre scrub like Trubisky or Mariotta, then they HAVE to draft a QB in the 1st or 2nd round. If they just sign a terrible bridge QB like Trubisky/Mariotta without drafting a QB, then you'll likely see no more than 500 home fans at Fed-Ex Field next season. The re-brand will get off to a horrific start if all you have to show for your efforts to get a QB are Trubisky/Mariotta and nothing else.
  10. If you’re talking about a top flight #2 like Allen Robinson or Mike Williams, that depends on who we have at QB. If we sign someone mediocre/terrible like Trubisky or Mariotta, then we’re not getting those top flight WR’s to sign here. We need to upgrade big time at QB before we can begin thinking of legitimate #2 WR’s who might sign here.
  11. Ew, is this serious? You’d actually give up a 1st for a WR THIS YEAR? That’s not a good move at all. I’m not even gonna mention signing Trubisky w/o drafting a QB at 11. Talk about a major letdown with the fans. If this scenario actually took place, you might only see 500 fans at most at Fed-Ex next year, LOL.
  12. What can he do though? There’s no way DC will work with him with Congress at his neck, and holding the purse strings. Maryland might be better, but who wants to deal with Landover? If they guarantee building a more accessible metro with a brand new development with bars and restaurants, then maybe. National Harbor works, but again, can they get a metro station there? If not, you’ll be dealing with horrific traffic on the beltway on gamedays. Since VA is the only municipality willing to work with the team, they don’t really have a choice. I ultimately think that they’ll find a new location in VA near the Silver Line in Ashburn.
  13. Not if the QB we get is mediocre. If we end up with Trubisky/Marriota, you can forget about us getting any quality FA WR's. They would take one look at our pathetic QB situation, and decide to sign elsewhere. Wentz would be the only QB we could sign, who isn't "great", but has a cannon arm, and can find his weapons. He had only one decent WR last year playing for the Colts, and STILL threw for 27TD/7INT. Obviously, if we're lucky enough to get a Rodgers or a Wilson, you would see our chances improve greatly in attracting all kinds of FA's.
  14. The QB situation affecting FA signings is a major point. If you're an FA, you're always going to defer to whichever team gives you the most money, but the team's chances at winning are a major factor too. For example, we desperately need a #2 receiver next to Terry. Some might argue that Samuel is that #2 option, but his injury history says otherwise. Some of the major FA WR's on the market this offseason include guys like Davante Adams, Allen Robinson, Mike Williams, etc. Guys like Adams and Williams have played for great QB's and have racked up yards and pro bowl appearances. Why would they want to sacrifice their stats to play with garbage QB's like Heinecke or Trubisky/Marriota? If I'm Davante Adams or Mike Williams, and the offer from the Commanders or another team is similar, I'm going to whichever team has the better QB. If we don't upgrade at QB, and sign a complete loser like Trubisky or Marriota, we're losing that FA WR everytime. Amari Cooper had a chance to sign with Washington for more money than he ended up taking from the Cowboys, and it was because of the QB situation. If you have a mediocre or terrible QB, you're not attracting many offensive FA's at all.
  15. Improved how? We'll just be stuck in that 6-9 win range with no upward mobility. We're never good enough to be a contender, and never terrible enough to be select in the top 3 of the draft. Even when we do have a top 5 pick, we just screw that up as well (C. Young and RGIII). We really need to get a franchise QB, by any means necessary. Anything else is just ensures us of more mediocrity and sub-par seasons ahead.
  16. I’m sorry, but did why would Snyder fire Gibbs after a lackluster 2006 season off the heels of their first playoff win since 99? Gruden didn’t have the background or resume of Gibbs. How do you come out in a must win game with lackadaisical effort in front of a rare packed home crowd? Gruden was a mediocre coach, who shouldn’t have gotten to coach this team for 5 years.
  17. The fact that he settled for a mediocre 38 year old QB, who had never taken a team to the playoffs in his 17 seasons, after NOT drafting a QB in a class that was MUCH better than the QB class this year is a serious red flag. That is a botch. I know they tried to trade for Stafford and struck out, but that shouldn’t have led to signing Fitzpatrick as the next best option. That makes no sense quite frankly. If you were going to sign Fitzpatrick, it should’ve been as a bridge QB for the rookie they should’ve drafted last year. Why they didn’t draft a QB, I’ll never know. Now they have to draft a QB from an underwhelming draft class, where there is no clear QB1 out of the bunch. The 6th QB taken in last year’s draft (Davis Mills), might be better than the 1st QB taken in this year’s draft.
  18. Gibbs got to the Playoffs two out of his four seasons here. He retired, but could’ve coached a lot longer if he wanted. Shanahan also lasted 4 season, but he drafted his QB (2 of them actually), which gave him a longer leash. No idea why Gruden lasted as long as he did. He should’ve been fired after the home loss to the Giants that kept us out of the playoffs.
  19. What else does the NFL stand for besides National Football League? It also stands for NOT FOR LONG. No coach in the league except for maybe Bill Belichick and Andy Reid can be presumed as safe if they happen to have a bad season, or show no signs of major team improvement. Next year is Rivera’s 3rd season coaching this team. We’ve won 7 games both seasons, and won a fluke division title in the process. Unless this team upgrades the QB Position in a major way next year by drafting a QB or trading for a big time veteran QB, Ron’s job status shouldn’t be a slam dunk either way. He botched the QB situation big time last year by not drafting a QB. That would’ve bought him at least 2 more seasons minimum. Now he’s operating from a mindset of panic and urgency to get his QB. If Ron busts on improving the QB situation this offseason, you’re damn right his job status should be in jeopardy. We’re a mediocre 7-8 win team at the moment without one. All the bottom feeder teams that used to occupy space with us are now winning playoff games and getting to conference championships (Cincinnati, Cleveland, Buffalo etc). Pretty soon we’ll have the longest streak w/o a playoff win and a conference championship , unless we get the QB situation rectified. Nothing else matters until then.
  20. I don't think that this is the case. In the NFL, you don't have the excuse anymore of needing your entire contract to get a team from bad to contender. We see this every year in the league where teams go from worst to first in only a season or two seasons at most. Most of that is attributed to finding that QB that can lead your team for the next 10-15 years. I don't care how bad your team is, or how terrible the front office is, the excuses get tired after a coach fails to get a team on the right path after 3 seasons. It doesn't matter if the owner is Bob Kraft or even Dan Snyder, 3 years is plenty of time to make the case that the team is headed towards being a playoff team/contender. That's why last offseason was a colossal fail for Ron. To ensure himself an extension or seeing the 5th year of his contract, he should've drafted his rookie QB in a great rookie class. That would have bought Ron at least 2 seasons to show ownership and the remaining fans left of this franchise that we have a plan, and we have our guy that can lead us to relevancy. Now in year 3, he STILL doesn't have his rookie QB, and the rest of the fanbase is getting restless when they see teams like Cincinnati and Buffalo winning playoff game and getting to conference championships after being in the cellar with us for years. There's added pressure on him now to get the QB position right after sitting on his hands last offseason. If he doesn't get his guy either by trade or by the draft, the clock would definitely start ticking towards him not seeing year 4.
  21. It's Rivera's fault that he's at this crossroads in the first place. Not drafting a QB last year in a better draft class, and signing Ryan freaking Fitzpatrick put him behind the 8-ball bigtime. Because of their inaction, they're in a position where they have to swing big either by trade or by the draft. We only have 2 or 3 pro-bowi level players, and a bunch of B or C level players behind that. I would argue that we now have a worse FO handling the draft and scouting than what we had with Kyle Smith. With how this past draft went, it might actually be better for them to part with some 1st round picks, if they can get Watson or Wilson. This past draft shows that they reached in the 1st round.
  22. This is wrong, and incredibly short sided. The clock on Rivera started the moment that he passed up on drafting QB last year, and settling for the 40 year old Fitzpatrick. That was a really dumb move, and it highlights just how stupid we were last offseason with regards to the QB position. Now Ron is looking at year 3, and his options are even crappier than last year. He has to now swing really big to acquire a Vet via trade. Possibly multiple 1st round picks. And it might not be enough anyways. He could draft a QB, but this class is clearly worse than last year’s class. He’s really backed himself into a corner. If he can’t land Rodgers, Wilson or Carr via trade, he’s stuck selling the fan base on a rookie QB, and a crappy bridge QB like Trubisky/Mariotta. That’s a nightmare scenario, and will eventually get him canned when 20K people show up to the games with the lack of marquee opponents on the home schedule next year. Edit, sorry Rdskns2000. I was responding to Silvernon’s post saying that Ron was safe, and that he could get an extension.
  23. Where inside the beltway is there an unused plot of land greater than 200 acres that Snyder can move to? If there was landscape that large available, that would obviously be the first choice. Since there's not any free space of that size within 30 miles of DC, it makes it easier to understand why the team would want to build out in Loudoun County, where you have loads of upper middle class and rich families living, plus a new Metro station that will open up in the next year that you can build around with new housing and commercial developments. All of this by the way, a mere 5-10 minutes from an International Airport (Dulles). It's almost a foregone conclusion when you think about it.
  24. You guys don’t get it. There’s literally ZERO chance the team end up back in DC. Everything inside the beltway is built up already. Where are they going to get the 200+ acres needed to build the stadium and the housing and restaurant developments around the stadium? DC won’t play hardball because of Snyder, not to mention the issues surrounding that Congress is investigating at the moment. Maryland might happen, but again, where can they build inside the beltway? It’s either National Harbor (no metro, and no available land) or building at the Fed-Ex site. Virginia wants to play ball with the team, and Snyder can convince the government there to build a new complex with all the trimmings. It’s going to be VA that wins in the end. VA inside the beltway is already built up, so look to Loudoun for the available space and metro accommodations. Makes the most sense, since their office is already here in Ashburn. For those of you stating that the team will lose its Maryland fan base, guess what, it has already happened. The team sucking like it has for the last 20+ years, plus the Ravens being a stable winning franchise only 30 minutes up the road from Landover has already cost us most of Maryland. The stadium is located in MD for God’s sake, and we’ve lost 40-50% of the fan attendance at that toilet bowl the last 10 years.
