  1. All of those points are valid, but WWE up until recently had been struggling really bad on the ratings side. They were getting ratings lower than they would during peak Monday Night Football season. Whenever they see ratings like that, they tend to rely on the most reliable thing they have, which is past stars. I haven't seen the ratings lately for Raw, but I imagine that since Undertaker came back several weeks ago, they've probably had a spike in ratings, and they wanted to save their best for the night after Summerslam, which is usually the biggest Raw of the year, next to the night after Wrestlemania. They put themselves in that position after years of neglecting to push newer stars, but when you see your weekly ratings fail to even get to a 3.0, and reality shows are consistently beating you head to head, you tend to panic.
  2. Yikes, that's not good news regarding the recent ratings report for 980. I've always thought that 2 sports stations for this town was one too many. Since 106.7 is winning in the sports radio wars here in DC, maybe 980 should switch to Nationally Syndicated radio for a part of the day, except for The Sports Fix & The Drive. Those two shows are the highest rated shows on 980, so I would leave them be, but if I were the PD for 980, I'd get rid of The Locker Room, Tony K's show & especially the Man Cave. The shows pretty much add nothing to an already saturated programming lineup when regarding the Redskins. I would put Mike & Mike back on from 6-10AM (because, let's face it, nothing they create will beat the Junkies on 106.7), and then I would have the Sports Fix from 10-1PM, then they could put on The Russillo Show from 1-4PM. Cooley & Czabe would stay at its time slot of 4-7PM, and then call it a day. I think that's the best they could do with what they have currently. The Sports Fix & The Drive are the only shows that are credible enough on that station to discuss the Redskins, Wizards & Nats in an intelligent fashion. The other shows they have besides those two don't do a good job talking about the other teams in the area at all not named the Redskins.
  3. No, it was a really weak tech. The kind that you shouldn't have to pay for by suspension. Plus, the fact that Westbrook is literally balling like his life depends on it + The Thunder going down to the wire here at the end of the season tipped things in Westbrook's favor.
  4. Looks like the league won't suspend Westbrook for his tech that he received late in the Pacers/Thunder game last night. The tech was rescinded, so the Thunder will have him tonight for their crucial game against Portland.
  5. Hate to see anyone try to come down on Russell Westbrook for willing his team, my God. 54 Pts (21-43 FG) tonight, and he had 9 Rebounds and 8 Assists to go along with it, but its all for not. He also got his 16th Tech of the season late in the 4th quarter, which is huge because that means he's suspended for 1 game if the tech is not rescinded by tomorrow. NO is currently winning right now, so it might be congrats Pelicans after tomorrow night. Edit: Hold the phone, NO had a 8 point lead late in the 3rd Quarter against Houston, but now trail by 9 in the 4th Quarter. Maybe its not over for the Thunder yet.
  6. 20 Years ago today, the greatest basketball player of all time sent out a press release through fax with just two words indicating that he was coming out of retirement "I'm back". http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/12501628/nba-ja-adande-michael-jordan-1995-comeback-fax?src=mobile&rand=ref~%7B%22ref%22%3A%22http%3A%2F%2Ft.co%2FIKDbV4hPon%22%7D 9 days later he hit a buzzer beater to beat the Hawks, then the next game he had the double nickel game (55 points) against the Knicks at MSG.
  7. They couldn't do that without dropping one of the other shows on 980 during the day. This is some of the reason why The Man Cave show got dropped before it could begin, because the higher ups at ESPN Radio require you to either carry Mike & Mike or one of the other daytime national shows to qualify as an ESPN affiliate. What they could do if they really wanted a local morning show is to create a new show (maybe with Andy Polin & Czabe or Blackistone) and move Mike & Mike to 570, and then move either Tony K.'s show to 570 to swap with The Herd from 10AM-12PM, or they could get rid of B-Mitch & Doc Walker's show and move SVP & Russillo into that 2-4PM slot (I would prefer that, since SVP & Russillo is my favorite sports radio show).
  8. There's also one more schedule change that involves the Wizards. The Cavs-Knicks ABC game which was to air on Sunday 2/22 has been dropped, and ABC will televise the Rockets-Wizards game on Sunday 3/29 at 12:30. That will be during the second week of the NCAA Tournament, which is odd because ABC likes to hold off on airing games opposite the Tournament.
  9. Nice moment for Kobe tonight as he gets to 32,000 points and the Lakers get a win. He's about a few weeks away from getting to Jordan's career point total. I should also add that this is the first game this season where Kobe's shot over 50% in a game. It took him until the 11th game of the year to do that.
  10. It must be true, I believe it happened. This is just another case of WWE hypocrisy. You know that they're going to make fun of this situation in some fashion tonight. That's just how they roll.
  11. Apparently Del Rio was let go from WWE because of an incident that took place between him and a Social Media Specialist: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/early-lead/wp/2014/08/09/wwe-fires-superstar-alberto-del-rio-for-reportedly-slapping-employee-who-allegedly-told-a-racist-joke/ If that did in fact happen, then I don't blame Del Rio one bit, and I wonder how he didn't stomp this prick's face to the ground. What's even more puzzling and troubling for WWE is that they (Triple H) tried to justify the release on twitter by stating that he was not professional in handling the situation. As of this post, the Social Media Specialist who insulted Del Rio has not been fired or even reprimanded by WWE. I think this makes the WWE look really bad, and this fits in with the racism & stereotyping that has plagued the company since the beginning.
  12. LOL, here's a rant about the Indiana Pacers from Dan Lebatard. I listened to this on the way home, and almost swerved off the road crying from laughter:
  13. Damn, there's word going around the Internet & especially twitter that Viscera/Mable died of a Heart Attack earlier today. He was only 43. No official word yet, but there are a lot of wrestling insiders & people in the know who have confirmed it's true. R.I.P.
  14. Man, 24-7 right now with 3:40 left in the 1st. I think every starter is out now, and the bench is in.
  15. What the hell is this fool thinking by saying something so ridiculous?:doh::doh: By the way, what is it with Washington athletes saying ridiculous things lately in the media? First that bum Rex Grossman declares that we will win the NFC East, then gets benched for after having the worst game of the season league wide at QB (that's not all, he also has the worst QB rating among all NFL QB's), then Tim Hightower saying that we'll win the Superbowl. Now this kid runs his mouth making outlandish statements that only bring unwarranted & unnecessary attention to his team. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont_lie/post/Jordan-Crawford-who-thinks-he-8216-can-be-b?urn=nba-wp9911
  16. I think the new GM will probably be Mick Foley. There have been rumblings as of late that suggest that he will be back in November. He just signed a deal with the WWE, and he has been a GM as we all know in the past, so that would probably be the route they're going in. I've also heard rumors that JBL might be another GM candidate as well.
  17. I have MLB TV on my computer and was watching this game when it happened. I heard on another message board that the guy fell backwards and apparently his his head along with falling onto fans as a cushion. That's all I know for now, but I think that the fact that they resumed the game after this happened is a good sign that maybe the guy was not as injured as he should have been otherwise. I think the players reactions along with the umpires reaction when the guy fell were the scariest part of that whole situation.
  18. Someone just fell from the second deck at the Texas Rangers game trying to catch a foul ball. They didn't actually show the man falling, because the cut the shot away just in time. The announcers were horrified as well as the fans and players. The game has been delayed, and it is not sure if the fan is in serious trouble or worse. The announcers just said that the guy fell on a couple of fans as he landed, so he might not be in perilous condition. What a scary situation.
