  1. A starting OL with 3 rookies is a recipe for disaster. Some teams have done well with 2 - Seattle started two in 2022 with Lucas and Cross. Many of you underestimate the learning curves rookie OLs, especially interior ones have. It is why keeping Leno for one more year and Wylie as a starting LG or utility depth for one more year is not the worst thing in the world. We also can’t earmark all of our Day 1 and Day 2 picks for OLs. We also have the weakest EDGE and LB rooms in the NFL and bottom third tight end and secondary rooms.
  2. My gut if the hire is Peters is that they will stick with Sam and look to upgrade everywhere. The path the 9ers have taken is building the best roster in football outside of the QB position. I believe Peters was one of the guys championing Lance so I wonder if he learned from that and if that has changed his perspective
  3. Agreed. These guys will get lauded if they can move back and get a first in 2025 if Maye is not in reach at the pick.
  4. A reason the Dolphins are so good is because of the treasure trove of first rounders they got from the 9ers as they moved up to take Lance. If we can get to #3 or #4, hopefully a similar opportunity will be there
  5. I’m a big fan. Would be my top WR target in FA
  6. You are likely not building a line of 5 OL studs overnight. It takes time to build it. $90M in cap is not as much as it sounds and rookie guards rarely hit the ground running - look at this year’s class. All of them have struggled. Wylie costs you net $2M next season if you take the difference of his cap hit and dead cap. That is very good value for a legitimate starter at guard. I still think you draft a guy Day 2 or early Day 3 and groom him because I see Wylie as a 1 year solution who you then cut in 2025. Best case scenario is that rookie kills it and beats Wylie out for a starting spot and Wylie is your utility guy off the bench IMO a good way to crystallize this is the delta in cap between cutting Wylie and signing a brand new FA guard may be the cost of a quality starting linebacker.
  7. BSJ was impressive enough last year where we know he is playing well below his ceiling today
  8. I am comfortable with giving BSJ and Forbes shots as the starters with a Moreau type as a backup for insurance they falter. I feel confident both guys can bounce back next year in a better scheme with better coaching and playing with a better FS
  9. We really need a traffic controlling leader who has the ability to play single high. I would be so on board with giving the guy Jessie Bates money. Let Kam leave and have Forrest and Martin be your box guys
  10. I couldn’t disagree with this post more 1) Sports medicine and analytics is way better now than 20 years ago when Dan was going for > 30 FAs. The > 30 FAs bring leadership and gravitas no one on this roster really has. Teams also tend to overpay ascending players earning a 2nd contract but underpay the > 30 guys who are still effective. Mike Evans, for example, is going to get similar money as Michael Pittman but is going to put up a better 2024 with at least a 1000 yards and at least 8 TDs no matter who plays QB. I similarly think Danielle Hunter is going to be very effective in his early 30s. If Lavonte David wanted to leave TB, we would be very lucky to have him for a year. 2) The 3 year+ deals come with more guaranteed money and makes it tougher to move on from busts. This also reduces cap flexibility moving forward. For example, if we choose to end things with both Wylie and Gates, both will have to be post June 1 cuts and the dead cap charges on both would be high
  11. I'm fully with you here. The latest example is in Minnesota where, by DVOA, they have a top 10 D substituting Flores for Donatell and they are doing it with a fairly young group of unheralded guys who have stepped up in his scheme.
  12. This perspective around elite talent is where I’ve landed as well. Most of the contending teams seem to have at least 4 blue chip players. A major reason a team like the Jags won’t breakthrough is because they have 0 blue chip players (maybe Etienne is an exception)
  13. Complicated with the back end schemes (until recently when he went straight man) and vanilla with the DL/blitz schemes I am probably his biggest believer but I bet BSJ bounces back quite a bit next year. His 2022 season is still fresh in my mind
  14. I wonder who should get credit for the 2020 offseason because that one was awesome overall. 2nd best FA haul in the Snyder era outside of the one on the Gibbs era where we netted Springs, Cornelius Griffin, Joe Salave’a, Marcus Washington etc. At this point, Kyle Smith gets the credit from me
  15. You can justify bringing Gibby back as a KR at a minimum. I think of him as a poor man’s Cordarelle Patterson
  16. He is this year's Broderick Jones and I agree with the assessment
  17. At least per PFF, Jonah Jackson is not having a good season - he has a 62 PFF grade. He had a 66 PFF grade the year before and he has always been sub 60 in terms of pass blocking. Going from Wylie at guard to Jackson would be a lateral move and not worth the net incremental cap investment. Penciling Stromberg in as center is much more of an unknown than penciling in Wylie at LG
  18. Yep or worst case we have the assets to move into the mid to late 1st to guarantee it
  19. That's exactly it. A good FO is going to see an unproven guy like Stromberg as a nothing and he should be thought of as depth, if that, unless he proves otherwise. We need proven solutions or high probability solutions like 1st and 2nd round picks at each spot on the OL
  20. I am now thinking Connor Williams is a must get in free agency. If you look at the FA center class, it is deep with solid proven starters. The issue is that most of the group is 1) fairly average and 2) most of them are also smaller centers (closer to 300 pounds). Not only is Williams playing at an elite level this season (and he did last year too) and showing himself to be worthy of top 5 money at the position but he is also close to 320 and we are going to need that sort of size in the middle given how important protecting Sam against interior pressure is and because we have Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter and Dexter Lawrence in our division.
  21. I am seeing this a lot. If that guy doesn't exist in the draft, we should just go sign one. They aren't particularly expensive. We got McKissic at a fairly cheap price in 2020
  22. He hasn't seemed particularly productive running between the A and B gaps vs CRod but he has done well on outside runs. BRob in the open field catching a pass has been a revelation for sure. If he stays healthy, I think he is going to finish at around 850 rushing yards with 450 receiving yards for a total of 1300 yards and 10+ TDs. That is definitely a Pro Bowl season
  23. We know that Darnell Wright was a target for them. If they had gotten him, it would have definitely meant Wylie at guard. Too bad we won't get to see it this season. An obvious change that should have been made a long time ago was having Wylie go to guard and starting Lucas at RT, depth be damned
  24. I actually think you keep Wylie around next season as either the LG starter or as depth. You save less than $2M in cap cutting him after this season - you can just wait until the 2025 offseason to cut him and save $8M in cap room. To level set expectations, he is definitely not a great guard but he is a solid proven starter there and would be an upgrade over Charles and Paul. If they do go Fashanu in rd 1, Fashanu/Wylie/great vet FA center/Cosmi/Leno would be a solid starting line. In this scenario, I would still draft another interior OL Day 2 to challenge for that starting LG spot but there is a learning curve for interior OLs and they don't really hit their stride until year 2.
