  1. The second order effect of the lack of hiring of DCs into HC roles is that has created a major logjam at the DC position for younger potential first time DCs. All you need to do is look around the league and see who the DCs are team by team. In our division, all DCs have been DCs on other teams. In the meantime, the Ravens hit a home run with Macdonald and the Falcons look like they hit a home run with Ryan Nielsen. If we go the hire an offensive HC route, as intriguing the proven names are, I hope we do interview some first timers
  2. Well, if Sam was taller and was faster, he’d have an elite ceiling. Given Sam’s focus in year 1, Drake is going to have to spend a ton of time cleaning up his footwork.
  3. You would need an older OC who folks don’t see as a future HC, someone like a Monken as an example or Josh McDaniels. One scenario I could get behind Macdonald for is if the GM wants Daniels. You can get Macdonald as HC and Roman as OC to give Daniels some training wheels in his development for 2-3 seasons before you inevitably replace him
  4. The most Ron move ever would be taking the Yale LT at #3 because it turns out his dad served in a military somewhere and he is a nice guy and that Wharton will coach him up and he will be our Day 1 starting LT next year
  5. I think some of this has to do with defenses not thinking Sam is a threat at all with the deep passing game. I don’t believe he has completed a single pass over 40 yards to a wideout all season. If you are a DC, why wouldn’t you pin your ears back if that’s the threat? In the two games he has played in, Jacoby has consistently threatened defenses vertically and has manipulated pressure well from the pocket so you have to change things up a bit as a DC when you face him. Add the fact that the run game is generally more effective in the second halves of games
  6. Don’t know about that last sentence but, assuming they have the cap room, it would be a good landing spot for Cousins if he doesn’t go back to Minny. They could use an upgrade at OC vs the interim guy and Turner
  7. I don’t know how Pierce doesn’t keep that job for the Raiders
  8. This is in response to your philosophy on team building not the quality of front office and coaching personnel
  9. He’s had some notable miscues but shows off playmaking ability with some elite athletic traits. I am excited for him next year and feel he can really elevate as a well rounded nickel player if we bring a real DB coach in here
  10. Anyone know how Forbes graded out yday? Defense played a lot better when he came in for St Juste. I hope BSJ is done for the season so we can see 100% snap counts for Forbes the next couple weeks
  11. It’s a worse OL with Lucas at LT, Scott at RT and Gates at C that Brissett was behind. The issue is more that Sam’s indecision and slower processing ability from his UNC days is the major red flag issue he needs to overcome in the NFL. Ron did a crap job building the OL but, as many have pointed out, this might be the weakest the league has been with OL play in general and is probably the biggest reason offense is down. Sam needs a lot to hit his ceiling but an elite OL like the one Hurts has in Philly is right now #1 and that is very hard to build in today’s day and age. If Sam can go be a backup in one scheme for a while and absolutely master it, he will then have all the answers to overcome the slower processing ability to potentially hit his ceiling as an above average starter down the road
  12. You may have answered your own question. Daniels is the bigger project despite being 2 years older and a ton more starts later. A very important point here is that Maye processes faster than Daniels You’re probably right. You get a ton more heat as a GM if something goes south with him on the health front with a top 10 pick vs #19 or #20. The GMs at #19 and #20 are playoff GMs anyway and have more buffer to take risk
  13. The Bucs with another 30+ point output and Baker with another good game…if the Bucs can upset the Cowboys in the playoffs, Canales starts to become a hot name. Again, very impressive the job he is doing in TB and he is known as a people person/leader and seen as a future HC Lot of admiration for the way he has grown in his first year as a playcaller
  14. This is the downside to having someone like a Diggs or AJ Brown in your locker room when things aren’t going well. They used most of their extra draft capital up. I expect their D will be better next season with Patricia or someone else as DC but not sure how easy it will be for them to shore up their back 7. I also expect some of their older veterans such as Kelce, Graham and Cox to start retiring in the next season or two
  15. Does anyone see Latu dropping to the 2nd given the medical retirement he had to take for his neck? Despite the talent, I can’t see anyone taking him top 10 because of it. I think he is going late first most likely
  16. I would be happier with one penciled in rookie starter and a couple quality FAs as plugged in starters at C and LG. Unless it is coming in FA, I would be disappointed if one of the second round picks was not used on a big X receiver, especially in a class this deep
  17. Couple things: 1) Depends on who the QB pick is. If it is Drake, you keep Sam. They are close friends and Sam, being the pro he is, will likely go out of his way to help Drake adapt to the NFL. Different college OC but Sam can help Drake figure out the things to focus on with the UNC to pros leap (ex footwork) 2) I am not really interested in having someone start a few games before the rookie takes over. I want the rookie getting nearly all first team reps in the offseason You joke but Armani has a very good shot at being the move TE next year. He was doing stuff in 2022 that TEs usually don’t do like run reverses
  18. It’s a positive that Howell and Maye are close. Howell being the pro he is will likely go out of his way to help Maye adapt to the NFL
  19. Given this is the deepest tackle draft ever, we are virtually guaranteed a first round caliber tackle with at least that first second round pick. We also have the resources in FA to go be high bidders for the likes of Connor Williams and Onwenu if we choose to do that…unless you have a ridiculous standard and you expect 5 All Pros as starters
  20. Their SOS has got be incredibly weak with them playing in the NFC South I know all mocks tie MHJ to AZ but you would think logically that they would want ro start over with Maye
