  1. Why did we not do anything about how JVille kept getting to that match up? Any good OC should be able to get that type of match up once or twice a game but the DC should know that they want to get there and figure out how to keep them from taking advantage of your schemes. I really think our coaches got heavily out-coached and, if we did not have good talent, we would have gotten beat like a drum.
  2. True J-Ville has an infinitely better coaching staff, some good talent and Lawrence could still turn out to be the best QB in the last few drafts. I really won't be all that surprised to see JVille win their division.
  3. Getting an LB matched up to a WR? That is a big reason why offensive coordinators exist. Looking at how god awful our run offense was, I hope our dink and dunk passing game was simply an attempt to get past what wasn't working. You want to go deep ball a lot with a Coryell type system, you probably want to be a good power runner so you play pitch and catch on second and third level passes.
  4. Redskins will put up a 49-0 win. Don't know what the commanders will do.
  5. The one thing we are built for is a true passing game. When the Gibbs offense was rolling, we were ALWAYS a top team in terms of yards per catch. Of the four teams that got to the conference game or better, only the 1982 team was not a top 10 passing team. In 1991, we were 26 in attempts but 5 in yards We didn't do much rassing (passing that basically is a running game replacement). We have multiple receivers that can blow the tops of defenses, a QB who can spin it and a great running game. This is the recipe for a real passing game. We may not throw much but a real passing game is not based on the number of throws but the yards made.
  6. TH is probably Wentz's backup if Wentz is healthy going into the game. I also would not be surprised to see TH start if Wentz is only going to be out a game of two. If Wentz goes down for the season, TH probably plays out the current game but I think Howell would quickly become the starter. Further, if Wentz is benched, I suspect it would be for Howell.
  7. If Wentz is a fail, we will probably be in the coaching market in 2023. If he is a fail, I don't see the defense bailing us out to at least a 9-10 win season minimum that Ron needs to keep his job (7 or 8 might but more because we can't find a new HC).
  8. Problem with a bad season right now is that almost guarantees that Rivera is done (only way he stays in that case is if the Commanders have no other option). A mediocre season is not even a good option. The number one thing is that a coach of a non-expansion team who has not gone deep into the playoffs by year 3 or a couple of playoff years, will almost certainly never become a good team. Only 1 franchise has done that in NFL history and you got to go back to Chuck Noll to find him, heck, Tom Landry taking over an expansion franchise has the longest tenure of coaching a bad team that went on to dominate.
  9. Ryan was one of the few guys who over the Snyder era that I can say there is no one else who played the same postion during his career I'd have preferred.
  10. Not sure how that works. It would either be a win/loss or a tie/tie. Now, what would happen if there was a forfeit?
  11. Pretty simple, we either win 10 or more games else I'd expect it'll be at least until we move on from Rivera when we even sniff being relevant again.
  12. The mascot will be leaked well before week 17. Probably going for most distraction time possible.
  13. In 2015, Kirk didn't get 'hot' until the second half of the Tampa game (game 7) before that, he was looking like JAG. Just before the half of that game, I was wondering who our coach would be the next week. Even into the fourth quarter, it looked like the NFC-East at that time was going to be New York, Philadelphia, Dallas, Washington.
  14. The list of players for who OTAs are truly voluntary is very small. Yeah, those few guys might get called out. Most of the other guys would be giving away the opportunity to play or even make the team. Remember, especially for certain positions, OTAs are when many players get penciled in a starters or at least high in enough in the order that they are close to locks to make at least the top 60 or so. I suspect that the term excused absence here really just means you gave a reason that was acceptable to the coaching staff.
  15. Like most governments, DC is about the "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine" while same is true for the whole DMV area, Snyder is already more in-tune with the powers that be in the NOVA area. He knows the amount and how hard the NOVA government likes to give it but not so much the DC government.
  16. Depends. In the 80s, Gibbs' teams often were at the bottom in terms of pass attempts but were almost always near the top in terms of total yards passing with a lot of go routes and posts. Short passing was pretty much there only to bring the coverage down. I called that a real passing game as opposed to just replacing a your run game with 5-10 yard routes of the traditional WCO (I used to call that rassing). Norv Turner was also heavily focused on the run game but loved going for chunks in the pass game. Both like a run game combined with hitch routes to force the corners and safeties down to open up the deep routes.
  17. QBR is an attempt to take into account actual performance versus just summarizing certain statistics related to just passing.
  18. Rogers (really just a pipe dream at best, anyway) was going to be nothing more than a 1-2 year rental and would have left us with no resources after he left. Watson's best year was also the teams worst during his time (OK, other issues but greats are supposed to be able to overcome them to some extent, aren't they?). In fact, looking at their downfall seemed to be as much due to a defensive downfall that started happening in 2018. Watson has clouds over him still and so does Snyder. We would have to give up so much in the deal that I didn't think he made sense. We weren't on his list anyway. Wilson was the only one of the top guys talked about that excited me. Young enough that he could be expected to play at a high-level until we had the resources to move on. Still, would have been resource intensive and this was not his preferred location (and that's being nice). Garoppolo? A bridge that might have let us wait till next season at best. Bit injury question, and, at least in my opinion, was not a good fit for what we want to do. Claims he didn't want to go here anyway. Ryan? Bridge and doesn't fit. The FAs? All were big questions and bridges anyway. Wentz? Signed for multiple years going forward so he can do prove it for a year and we still have hope to extend him to a more team friendly deal if he does. The problem with most one year prove it deals is that if player proves it, there's little hope to get a good deal going forward so no matter what, you usually now have a hole. Looking at the QB market, resource-wise he was cheap if he works out (very cheap if he regresses to his career mean or better) and we lose very little if he doesn't. If we don't have to extend him this off-season to be able to make deals with some one like Terry, he doesn't hit the cap if he is a fail. While he has choked at times, he has also done jaw dropping things more often, so there is NO good reason to be sure he will fail and very good reason to think he'll be at least as good as KC was (and Wentz will have a defense and running game that Kirk never had while here). With Howell, we may even have salvage value with Went even if we decide to move on.
  19. I really wonder what will become of this place if we ever become 1980s good again. Half the people here seem to enjoy the pain of suck.
  20. Pretty much the same as every year at this time but more likely to come true than not this time. Look at last season's losses, take an HONEST look at why we lost and if the reasons for the loss looked like they are fixed, call that many extra wins. So, 11 to 13 wins this year wouldn't be surprised by a quick exit in the playoffs but would also only be surprised if we went very deep (ie, cog or better).
  21. Yep, there is now a floor. Cap can be thought of as a sort of accounting fiction as it could include things like part of a bonus paid out last year. The floor is simply cash given out the current year. It was mostly pushed to help the below average (money-wise) majority and put a damper on the huge signing bonuses in favor of roster bonuses and guaranteed future monies.
  22. When Wentz was first mentioned I was very mad. I did research before I reacted in any public way. The research really changed my perception from mad to cautiously optimistic. Especially given that our alternatives were to overpay for a bridge, give away the farm (and that may not have been an alternative) or put all our eggs on a QB in this draft.
  23. True, people piled on Kirk but he was directly for us missing at least 6 points (arguably up to 18 missing points). The last 6 the Giants scored came because we needed a 90 yard play and the only way to even have that chance is a successful game of rugby (I've only seen that work twice in 50 years!). If Kirk just does his just the job made available to him, we win 16-13 and possibly even 28-13. It was funny to me because that loss was followed by firing our DC who had directed his only good defensive game that year.
  24. He doesn't have to have $48M just lying around to make a cash offer. For most rich people, you 'borrow' against your assets to defer the capital gains taxes (if you got a good equity position, you're interest rate is going to be very low). Did his margin account grow? Though, since it was obvious the market would crash (timing was not but you knew it would within the year), it might have been a good time to take those gains. See if he sold a lot of equity. Further, what did he do with his old residence? Most cash offers around here are retired people who sell their DMV house for a million and bought a better house for half that or downsized and had another couple of hundred thousand to play with.
  25. In the 6 years previous to Brady, New England had just one losing season and another that was 8-8. This period included 4 post-season trips and one that culminated in the SB (albeit a loss). If that is suck, I'd take being a suck team.
