  1. Pete Carol is in his 70s, he only has a few years left at most. Seahawks are actually a pretty good team now. Wilson stays healthy and the Seahawks will have a legit shot at the NFC-West. Any trade that does not include a top-tier QB means that Pete Carol will not have a legit shot again. If Pete takes 3 #1s, it means that he thinks Wilson is done.
  2. It must be because any trade that offer that Philly could make could make would not make sense from the Seahawks POV.
  3. If you take a look, Seahawks are still a decent team and with the Kyler thing going on in Arizona have a good chance to at least go the playoffs with a franchise QB. Pete Caroll is over 70 and doesn't give me the vibe he will take a bullet to begin a rebuild that he may not even see come to fruition. He just suffered only his second 10 loss season as an NFL HC and only his fourth non-winning year, I just can't see him wanting to go out with a wimper. Wilson is not going anywhere unless the Seahawks have a plan to get an elite QB, Wilson wants out to the point that'd he'd pull a Watson or Caroll is senile.
  4. I like Mariota if we go the vet route. Would be a good bridge that won't cost us the resources needed to have something to bridge. Further, unlike the other guys available in FA, I actually believe he still has some potential to be a long-term solution (not likely but still some hope). I would say Wilson is the best fit (watching some Dyami Brown, Wilson could help turn him into a fine partner for Terry) but I have no belief we can actually get him. If we played a Joe Gibbs type of Air-Coryell, Winston would be intriguing.
  5. I recall the words of a friend of mine. Putin was the Russian manager of a project she lead for a certain US Company back in the 90s. She has dealt with misogynists, criminals and even murderers. While in Russia, she had her life threatened, saw a colleague assassinated and had 3 teams of bodyguards simultaneously. Putin was the only person who ever scared her.
  6. After some podcasts and some statements by Ron, I am about 90% certain that Taylor Heinecke will be our starter in the end. I am now resigned to another 5 to 10 years of suck to mediocrity. What is the price of tea in China right now?
  7. Rodgers will likely cost too much. The SB is nice but from 1971 to 1992, it was the fact that with the exception of 4 seasons we were in it at least till the bitter end in the regular season (and in 3 of those seasons, it wasn't until late November at the earliest) that really make that time so memorable. Wilson is the only guy who would take a king's ransom to get that'll probably get you multiple bites at the apple and you will likely have assets when you need to rebuild. Rodgers gets you one, maybe 2 bites, and you're back to rebuild with no assets and a significant probability you didn't get rings anyway. Remember, the NFL playoff structure makes it such that getting into the playoffs (div round is the beginning) makes getting to the SB mostly about luck.
  8. Wilson would have been a top-5 if he'd had measurables to go along with his college #s and tape. Brady didn't have measurables, didn't have the numbers (though what he did have was impressive), couldn't get the regular gig until late and wasn't even playing for his first choice (IIRC that would have been USC). Guys like with good numbers and tape but the bad measurables of Wilson have had some success. Given what you had on Brady in his draft year, he's just a fluke, I can't think of a guy like him who even made the cut in his rookie year based on pre-draft data.
  9. Don't know if I am on board with Wentz but I do agree that if it is not Wilson, we need to keep our pick. Rodgers and Watson, no one won't need the best tools. Rodgers is not a long-term solution. Watson is looking like he'd cost us any real hope though we'd be a fun watch.
  10. That wasn't the point. The point is that if you go with JimmyG, you definitely want to get the best tools and he's not the long-term answer which means picks are still of high value. If you go with Jimmy, it is so you can kick the can another year (or take a red-shirt now) so you probs want your 11 this year. You are still going to have to play elite ball-control and be highly certain that if you have it 1 goal inside the 5, you aren't going to have to settle for 3. Elite guys get TDs outside of the red-zone, often turn mediocre guys into great ones and/or don't need a great run game when they are in goal to go situations. Giving them better tools would be great but not as big a priority as with Jimmy.
  11. All JimmyG does is let you take a guy at 11 and red-shirt him or wait till what is available next year. You also want an answer at number 2 wide and while Brown could blow up (it happens), you really can't be betting on it. You also need protection at the number 1 wide spot anyway. Further, while Bates looks like he could be our new Warren type, with the injury and age of Logan Thomas, we need to be able to find an all-round TE like that. Next, McKissic is an issue that must be fixed (resign him or look at the draft for at least a Chris Thompson-type). Finally, while Gibson is a good lead dog in a RB by committee, I don't see him as a bell-cow and Patterson would not be my preferred solution as your #2 in an RBC. I'd love a guy who can do for us what Barber did in 2020 but also is more of a regular threat.
  12. Yeah, if he had zip that is probably a TD. There was a couple of others but the one I remember is one in the first Dallas game.
  13. Biggest problem with TH was the number of hospital passes he throws. A big thing isn't long air passes but where you stick it in front of your receiver so he runs through the catch and is able to turn a medium route into a 30-40 yard gain. People were hoping TH would turn into our Kurt Warner, but this ability is what made Kurt great.
  14. Yeah, if Cleveland actually considers an offer from us on Mayfield, I'd be worried about what we are getting.
  15. Yep, only 1 non-expansion team coach with 3 non-winning seasons (2 if those include a 10+ loss season) has gone on to be anything but another mediocre coach for that team. Ron has got to know that he will be out of a job in 2023 if he doesn't get at least 8 wins and will probably be a fail if he doesn't get a playoff spot (though he may get a couple of lame duck years). Almost all successful coaches in NFL history took 1 season to turn a turd into a diamond (though it may have been their turd).
  16. Unless Wilson really wants out of Seattle to the point where he would sit out or Pete Caroll is actually about to retire (just hasn't announced), I'd be really surprised if we could get Wilson. Pete is going to be 71 and I don't see him wanting to go out with two 10 or more loss seasons (before this season, he had only 1). Wilson was hurt so if you think he's still good enough to give up more than our 1st and some change, you would agree that Seattle was only 3 plays out of taking SFO's spot in the 2021 season and Wilson still probably has enough left to accomplish that. Seattle is at most in need of a refresh to be a playoff contender for the next year or two which they can do via FA (albeit they might crash and burn in 2024). A 71 year old Caroll would see that as a more attractive option than starting a complete rebuild that'll not be completed with him as HC. Remember, we've been rebuilding since 1993 and before that were in rebuild mode for most of time between 1948 and 1971. In some ways, Detroit has been in rebuild since1958. There are more rebuilds that fail than rebuilds that succeed.
  17. We also had to wait for several years before we got anything out of the trade and Talbert was the only one whose best years were as a Redskin.
  18. I think Haskins cost us a shot at my favorite player by name: GREEDY Williams.
  19. Traded Krause for a ham sandwich! Although Marlin McKeever did get us Jack Pardee, Maxie Baughan, Myron Pottios, Diron Talbert, John Wilbur, Jeff Jordan and Boyd Dowler(indirectly) in 1971.
  20. Just because they could see Herbert turning into what he is does not eliminate the possibility they could also see him becoming Haskins 2.0. Further, Haskins was actually showing some promise over his time as a starter as a rookie. While they may have believed that Herbert was very likely to become who he became, there was little reason to believe that Haskins would not be at least be solid and nothing to say that they also didn't feel that Herbert might be a bust.
  21. Thing is, it is highly likely that Turner will not be here after 2023. On the positive side, if the team does enough to save Ron's job, Turner will probably be a HC candidate. On the negative side, we don't do at least the minimums and Ron is not here (new coach will probably bring in a his OC) or Ron lets go Turner as a scapegoat. If we get a new owner, good chance that unless Ron has a very good year (which means that Turner will likely have HC options anyway), we see a new coaching staff.
  22. I saw a video that talked about the fact that almost every SB this century has been questionable. While some of the feeling could be because I am a Redskins fan, I have not really enjoyed the NFL much since 2008. Last SB I really watched was in 2009. Except for clips from ESPN and the like, I haven't watched any of the SBs since 2013. Sadly, what I planned as my retirement splurge (going to Redskins games) looks like it'll not be and not because of the lack of financial resources or unexpected health issues on my part.
  23. Mariota would be funny. He had a great 2018 and was looking like he'd be something. Got hurt against us and has been mediocre ever since. OK, getting injured against us might have just been a coincidence.
  24. Yes, I would agree that the failure to replace Haskins or get an elite QB in trade (didn't have the assets) or draft is not really Ron's total fault. Mac Jones was the only one we really might have had a chance for that Ron seems to have been against. Thing is, a HEAD COACH is still accountable for those misses whether it is his fault or not. If you are honest, most of our fails during the Gruden period were not Gruden's fault. Same with Norv. Beathard/Gibbs made some tremendous errors as far as the draft. Here are some 2nd rounders that NEVER played a down for us. Two never even played in the NFL Richard Williams (22 games mostly as a special teams guy, none for us after we traded up for this pick) Bob Slater (never played a down in the NFL) Tory Nixon (4years at SFO as a back up after another big trade up by us) Walter Murray(2 years as a back-up for the Colts after another big trade up) Wally Kliene (never played a down in the NFL) Of course, Nixon was the only fail in a year where we didn't get to the play-offs.
