The RG3 trade really really hurt...

First thing firsts, spare the KC talk. Clearly he has not outgrown the Rex gene. This isn't an RG3/Kirk thread. It's a team thread.

Secondary depth = nightmare

O-Line depth = nightmare

Linebackers = hot and cold.

All of these areas are in the shape they are because of that trade coupled with the cap penalty. Those picks could have been used to shore up or even find starters. At this point, RG3 has to win a SB to justify it and that looks as unlikely as ever.

I'll never fault them for making the move because risks are necessary but my goodness this team seems cursed. Nothing ever works out. Ever. Injuries had to happen to our guy...because we're the ****ing Redskins.

I honestly hate being a fan of this team some...(99.% of the time).

Please for the love of God/Buddha/Luke Skywalker, please don't turn this into a QB debate.

Oh please.  Not having a GM who builds a team is what hurts.

What do you mean not having a real GM???? Bruce Allen is the man. He runs the best alumni ice cream social events AND has successfully complied an all-star cast of failed Buccaneers coaches. What is not to love?

It was a very costly trade.  We should've done what the Colts did and tanked the season.  We are screwed for the next several years.  At least we have our old youtube videos to watch.

Obviously you never tried the ice cream.  If you did, you would realize what an accomplishment it is.

Anytime you mortgage the future for the present it hurts the team.

and i remember giving you **** in 2011 for being pissed they beat Seattle...

man....smh. Apologies

The RG3 trade didn't have nothing to do with 4 picks tonight. lol

...yeah....

read the thing...the thing at the top...next time. Read it.

I think going foward we need to build a team instead of going for the big splash. No guarantee 2-3 years from now RG3 will be here or even be a franchise QB. Whether he is or not we need to fix this offensive line and defense then worry about the skill positions last.

Also need to go the Brett Hundley route (if he slides late in the draft) need a RG3 clone as a backup instead of a straight up pocket passer until we get this line fixed.

I agree with the OP.. It's really really tough to be a Redskins fan. Nothing ever goes our way and we fixate over one position when our problems our much much deeper than that. My worry is we spent all those picks on two quarterbacks and neither one may be the future here.

I don't quite remember that but I hope I wasn't too much of a jerk. I've calmed down and tried to become at least a little more stoic over the years.

I was happy we got RG3 at the time, and he's still my favorite player on the team. That said, what we gave up to draft him, combined with our salary cap hits really set us back. We did need a QB, but we also needed so much more. We need an offensive line. We need a secondary. We need competent people to put the right guys into the right spots.

You can mortgage the future. If it doesn't work out in the present then it is all for nothing... which is what we have right now.

It's not just the trade though that is a major blow. Hypothetically if they had just gone with Cousins, that's 3 first round picks and a 2nd on non-QB positions.

However, that trade and other moves are indicative of the rudderless ship that is this franchise.

Examples:

Let's change the head coach, but keep the guy who lead terrible defenses.

Let's sign Desean Jackson even though a number 2 receiver was already signed and could really have used that money to upgrade other positions.

Let's draft two QBs in the same draft

and on and on.

Any time you mortgage the future for RG3, it hurts.  The answer at QB isn't on the team or in the league.  The team itself, stinks.  The biggest thing I learned today was that Gibbs 2.0 was the best we are going to do for a long time.  Hall of fame coach does so much with so little.  This is more or less Zorn 2.0.  Inexperienced coach + bad players = bad team.

Nah you were cool.

I agree though.

If we just drafted RG3 straight up, it would be ok (not really but kinda). But giving all that up was backbreaking.
