Going Commando
Single is often used correctly as a noun. In that case? questionable. at the Batman headlines.

Bang
Single is often used correctly as a noun. In that case? questionable. at the Batman headlines. I don't think so. Even in a one word usage of "what is your marital status".. it's still an adjective describing your marital status, which is the noun. amazing how much of that **** I remember. The english teachers who failed me for skipping their classes would be proud. ~Bang

Or perhaps that's just the modern evolution of english and isn't officially recognized. Edited August 9, 2012 by BigDaddyShoo

The english teachers who failed me for skipping their classes would be proud. ~Bang It's pretty common to use as a noun as a plural. i.e., all of the singles at the single's bar. ---------- Post added August-9th-2012 at 12:53 PM ---------- In that use, single would still be referring to the implied noun "bill" or "dollar", so single(s) would still be an adjective. I don't think that's correct. This from dictionary.com: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/single?s=t sin·gle [sing-guhl] Show IPA adjective, verb, sin·gled, sin·gling, nounnoun 18. one person or thing; a single one. 19. an accommodation suitable for one person only, as a hotel room or a table at a restaurant: to reserve a single. 20. a ticket for a single seat at a theater. 21. British . a. a one-way ticket. b. a steam locomotive having one driving wheel on each side. 22. an unmarried person, especially one who is relatively young. 23. Baseball . Also called one-base hit. a base hit that enables a batter to reach first base safely. 24. singles, ( used with a singular verb ) a match with one player on each side, as a tennis match. 25. Golf . twosome ( def. 4 ) . 26. Cricket . a hit for which one run is scored. 27. Informal . a one-dollar bill. 28. a phonograph record, CD, or cassette usually having two songs. 29. one of the songs recorded on a single. 30. Often, singles. Textiles . a. reeled or spun silk that may or may not be thrown. b. a one-ply yarn of any fiber that has been drawn and twisted. Lots of noun usages of the word. Now whether the girl who created/posted that image intended it as one of those usages, that's questionable in my mind. Nevertheless, the guy responding opened himself up to looking ironically stupid with his smug response.
