Ricky Ervins
From Washington Times.... The Redskins, however, apparently want to keep McCants in his current role, with Coles and Gardner as their starting tandem. Gardner at times has been the subject of trade rumors, but NFL sources said yesterday Washington has no intentions of shopping the fourth-year veteran. Looks like everyone wasted theyre time ranting on and on about Gardner being traded. It looks like he's here to stay. Good News!! We now have 5 VERY legit WR's. Kevin Swayne, Scott Cloman (Who i Like) and Cliff Russels days are numbered.
funnyperson1
I'm glad, Gardner is a quality receiver. We should keep Cloman as a backup or maybe send him to NFL Europe to become dominant and come back a beast for us.

In an article earlier this week, the WP even noted that the Times had reported something a day earlier than they did. There have been other times when I read something in the Times that later appeared in the Post; unfortunately, I can't remember any specifics. But I wish we could put all these "Gardner Trade" rumors to bed.

Thats only because the WT generally goes to press hours after the WP, which sometimes allows them to print a late breaking story after a WP writer has already committed himself and gone to press. But in the past as far as insight and analysis goes, the WT has generally sucked compared to the WP.
kappaluvacee
I'm not sure if Gardner will be here or not. The dropped passes have to be killing Gibbs in the back of his mind.......

Fred Jones
The WT noted NFL sources and not Redskin sources. I don't think Gardner will be traded because I don't think any of the other teams are going to offer a compensation worthy of releasing him. That may change this summer, but who knows. Let's keep Gardner and see what he can do.
Destino
Jacobs needs playing time and McCants doesn't drop half the balls Mr. 50-50 does. Gardner has talent but he kills you in game by dropping easy balls in crucial situations. It's not enough to make good plays, you also have to avoid making horrible ones. With Gardner I always see him falling backwards to catch a ball intead of attacking it, I've seen this cause pass to be picked off. Coles and McCants see a ball and they go after it like their lives depend on them catching it. Gardner half asses it and relies more on natural talent then drive and commitment. bird_1972
If Thrash won't renegotiate his Eagle contract, I think we have to get rid of Gardner just to preserve cap space.

Heavy Jumbo
With the McCants and Thrash deals now completed, sources said the Redskins are done revamping their roster and are now moving into preparations for the April 24-25 draft. :paranoid: Sounds like we will have a trade down
skinsfanjoe
It's not only dropped passes with Rod. He also has a knack for getting stupid penalties that negate positive plays. Remember the illegal blocks in the back? The holding penalties? The false starts? Gibbs is a stickler for details and I just can't imagine after all the tape he's watched from last year's team he didn't pick up on Gardners stupidity. I'll go out on a limb here and predict that Rod is a goner before the season begins.

kingdaddy
1). Coles: stud 2). McCants: re-upped for 3 more years 3). Thrash: acquired in trade with the Iggles 4). Gardner: Starter or trade bait? 5). Jacobs: What's his story? Do we have plans for him? Why trade for Thrash if we do? 6). Russell: Gotta believe he's a goner 7). Cloman: I know nothing about this guy, somebody help me. Where did he go to school? How long have we had him? 8). Kevin Swayne: Seems like a long shot to make the team. After looking at the moves from the past week, I gotta believe Gardner is on shaky ground. How many teams trade a draft pick for a #4 receiver (Thrash) when they already have several other options (Jacobs). Reading between the lines tells me they're not happy with Gardner or Jacobs, hence the reason they went out and got Thrash. Anyone see it differently? geezings81
If Gardner doesn't go, I think it will be Chad Morton that goes then.
kingdaddy
I agree with you about Morton. I asked the question a few weeks back about possibly releasing him. We way overpaid for him. Maybe we picked up Thrash to replace Morton? I can't see him playing any RB unless Gibbs uses him like he did Brian Mitchell.
geezings81
Yup...and Morton is no where near as tuff as Mitchell. I don't think it could survive in that role.

If you ask me, it would truelly wasteful to have you're 2nd draft pick WR from a year ago as you're #4 wr, especially if the #5 WR, Thrash, can block better and play special teams better then the #2, Gardner. Gardner should be gone, and we should get something for him. Either that or package him together with a pick to get another veteran. I just don't see us going into this season with 6 or more WRs. I just don't see it to be very logical at all given that D-Man and Jacobs look to have close if not more talent then Gardner who only contributes one thing to this team. And he's not very consitent at that either.
