jljorge
Someone mentioned earlier about Rod's lack of "drive and determination". keep in mind that there is A LOT that Coach is going to improve on from last year. One thing i don't believe we have to worry about is the drive and determination of our players this year. as far as Rod goes, the man has raw talent that hasn't fully been realized yet. i can see gibbs concentrating on rod a little bit and minimizing those dropped passes
SonnyRules
I was out of town for awhile so can anybody tell me if Patrick Johnson is still with the team?
kingdaddy
jorge, Then how do you explain the trade for Thrash? Did we just trade a 5th rounder next year for a #4 or 5 WR/special teamer?
geezings81
Coles, Gardner, McCants, Jacobs, Thrash. Sounds like solid WR depth to me. Not like we have too many quality WRs to waste. Morton is going if anyone because of Thrash. If possible though, cause I know he got a big bonus.

We did it last year, plus we promised Morton that'd we'd involve him in the offense more because the J-E-T-S wouldn't. Get real people, Thrash isn't here to replace Morton. We now are on the verge of having the best double threat on specail teams in the league. Unless you are convinced $1.5 million for that this year is too much and hence isn't worth it. By the way, Morton's total signing bonus for the entire contract is $2.5 million dollars. WOW. Scary cap hit. Lets trade him.
geezings81
Why not? If Trotter can be traded this year, then anybody can.
Cskin
I recently watched a interview with Tory Holt in which he described his daily workout.... catching a variety of balls from different positions..... and about a 1,000 a day. Anyone think Gardner is doing that? I believe Gardner is going to be offered up in either a trade for a 2nd or 3rd pick or he's going to be packaged with a future draft pick for a draft pick this year. Raw talent....skills.... potential... blah...blah...blah. The facts are he's inconsistent, a blockhead, and has suspect work ethic and determination to be the best at his position. That, to me, means TRADE!!!!!!

kingdaddy
Best double threat on special teams in football? Wow, that'll give opposing teams something to think about...."how do we keep the ball away from both Thrash and Morton?" You think that's how games are won? Back to NFL 101 for you. And I don't care what Morton was promised when he signed here, that was the old regime. Gibbs made it clear, some people are going to be lucky to have jobs under him. Trotter found out and Morton or Gardner or both may be next!

I'm not saying I could do better, but this is PRO football. I feel that if Gardner is still here, than Gibbs either sees something none of us have the last 4 years or he's going to use him for leverage in a later trade deal. Either way, Gardner will either shape up & start performing on a consistant basis or find himself a new home!

Morton is one of the better return men in the league, and his salary cap figures over the next couple of years are certainly manageable, there is no reason to release him. Picking up Thrash to me is a direct replacement of Patrick Johnson, a player whom Gibbs did not want to see go. Both are speed guys that provide good depth at WR and can return kicks. Gardner could be on the way out, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him stay.
Southtown
Everyone loves to hate Rod Gardner, I really don't get it...but then again this site usually picks a new whipping boy every 6 months so I guess its his turn. (move over Champ and Stephen Davis) I am not the biggest Gardner fan but some of this bashing is funny. Bad work ethic? When did this happen? Does he skip a few volunatary work outs or mini camps that I may have missed? I thought that when he came out of Clemson one of his strengths that scouts talked about was that he was a work out freak etc. Statistically (don't have the link but it has been in other posts) McCants had more drops last year than Gardner. Gardner had 9 to McCants 8 but Gardner had many more balls thrown his way. As for penalties...I know Gardner had his share but certainly not nearly as many as people advertise. If someone could put up the actual # of penalties for all receivers on the team it would help. All in all I want to keep Gardner unless we get a low first or high second round pick for him. He still has lots of potential (as much as McCants since they are essentially the same age) and a low cap #.
MumboSauce
"Coles and McCants see a ball and they go after it like their lives depend on them catching it. Gardner half asses it and relies more on natural talent then drive and commitment." couldnt agree with this more...if he'd get focused he's a keeper..maybe gibbs and his team of coaches can instill that type of work ethic and groom him into thier kind of player...but as is, he could go for a good trade or for picks. I don't think the problem with Rod the NUMBER pf penalties but the type of penalties and when they happened. Shows a lack of discipline when we need it most. Torry Holt did that last year, and it's funny because he practiced that hard, only to drop the most critical pass that was thrown to him last season. A bomb from Bulger that would have won the playoff game against he Panthers.
